This is above even O'Reilly & Ailes (which is not to excuse how gross & creepy they are). Weinstein is a true predator. Probably won't see jailtime though...too rich and likely minimal hard evidence.

also said they were molested as children by Hollywood types and said there was a known pedophile ring that took advantage of children actors. I was surprised at the time it wasn't a bigger deal but after seeing the power of Hollywood to cover up, threaten and manipulate the media I wonder if those child actors will have the strength to start naming names like these actresses have.

Cory
DanMetroMan : 10/12/2017 5:00 pm : link
Feldman has been saying this stuff for years but because it was Cory Feldman nobody really took him seriously. He alleged both he and Corey Haim were molested.

"What level were these people? Were they studio heads, were they low-rent producers?

I'm not able to name names. People are frustrated, people are angry, they want to know how is this happening, and they want answers — and they turn to me and they say, "Why don't you be a man and stand up and name names and stop hiding and being a coward?" I have to deal with that, which is not pleasant, especially given the fact that I would love to name names. I'd love to be the first to do it. But unfortunately California conveniently enough has a statute of limitations that prevents that from happening. Because if I were to go and mention anybody's name I would be the one that would be in legal problems and I'm the one that would be sued. We should be talking to the district attorneys and the lawmakers in California, especially because this is where the entertainment industry is and this is a place where adults have more direct and inappropriate connection with children than probably anywhere else in the world."

“This has been going on for a very long time,” concurs former “Little House on the Prairie” star Alison Arngrim. “It was the gossip back in the ‘80s. People said, ‘Oh yeah, the Coreys, everyone’s had them.’ People talked about it like it was not a big deal.”

Arngrim, 49, was referring to Feldman and his co-star in “The Lost Boys,” Corey Haim, who died in March 2010 after years of drug abuse.

“I literally heard that they were ‘passed around,’” Arngrim said. “The word was that they were given drugs and being used for sex. It was awful – these were kids, they weren’t 18 yet. There were all sorts of stories about everyone from their, quote, ‘set guardians’ on down that these two had been sexually abused and were totally being corrupted in every possible way.”

Quote:

Farrow had a lot of material already. In March, he had acquired a damning and much-coveted audio recording in which Weinstein admits to having groped an Italian model. He had interviews with former executives and assistants who’d worked closely with Weinstein who spoke about the culture of harassment and abuse he perpetrated. And now he had someone ready to accuse Weinstein of rape, on camera.

But at that moment Farrow was also caught in the pincers of an NBC News edict. He had been told by executives at NBC News that he didn’t have enough reporting to go on air with his Weinstein story, according to four sources, and he had been told by the network to stop reporting on it. NBC tried to put a stop to the interview with the woman accusing Weinstein of rape. The network insisted he not use an NBC News crew for the interview, and neither was he to mention his NBC News affiliation. And so that was how Ronan Farrow wound up paying out of his own pocket for a camera crew to film an interview.

rots. Think its the tip of an iceberg of predation in Hollywood though.

I know enough people who are in that world, sex for roles is pretty much the defacto way it works (for men, women and probably more). I mean, do people really think there's some inimitable ability to 'act' which sets the famous ones apart? I cast a movie, there's a dozen pretty girls who'd suit the bill, look who's willing to go further for the part, look who's gets it. Eventually when you are considered a marketable star I imagine the necessity of that sort of stuff disappears, but they've all made their own Faustian bargain to get there so most people shut the fuck up about the reality of it, with plausible deniability provided by the handful that actually do organically come to fame through performance.

The kingmakers have been getting away with this shit for decades, LA is a place that just chews up and spits out every guy or girl who thought they were something special - porn is filled with hundreds of them. Harvey Weinstein is probably a uniquely awful lecher but part of the whole apparatus in place. Its most telling how everyone was willing to not say shit about it til the wind turned and made it okay, which tells you this is systemic.

PJ,
Only reason I "know" this is a girl I know is extremely heated over this stuff story and said she read he was going to pull a Roman Polanski aka what you are suggesting but apparently his legal team told him to go to Arizona.

"Harvey Weinstein's private flight to an Arizona rehab facility was diverted at the last minute, and he touched down in a different city than originally planned ... TMZ has learned.
Weinstein is now getting treatment somewhere in the Scottsdale area ... according to well-connected sources. As we reported, the private jet that took off from L.A. Wednesday evening was scheduled to touch down in Wickenburg, AZ ... near The Meadows rehab center.
We're told there had been continued debate in Weinstein's camp about where he should go. You'll recall, there was also talk of him going to Europe -- but ultimately a last-minute decision was made to touch down in Scottsdale."
Ronan Farrow if you recall also called out Woody Allen
giant24 : 10/12/2017 5:30 pm : link
and said he molested his sister when they were kids and couldn't believe how Hollywood praises him and can work with him.

Also you have Roman Polanski who anally raped a 13 year old girl. He was arrested in Europe in 2009 and 100 actors/film makers/directors etc signed a petition to have him released including some big ones:

Woody Allen
Monica Bellucci
Buck Henry
David Lynch
Michael Mann
Martin Scorcese
Tilda Swinton

mattlawson : 10/12/2017 5:46 pm : link
Yeah full a shit. But they were both consenting adults with a purpose. She was right. Let's bury the story though. People only care about sports afterall when they tune in. The behind the scenes stories are irrelevant.

This is real dirtbagery. To say anything other than these women deserve the time and room to tell their stories this day and age and be heard is repugnant.
My 2 cents worth as an entertainment journalist:
81_Great_Dane : 10/12/2017 5:47 pm : link
I was briefly on the Disney beat when they owned Miramax. My beat moved into post-production, visual effects and technology, so I didn't have much occasion to get into Miramax & Weinsten Co. stuff, but:

It was an "open secret" that Harvey Weinstein was an abusive boss, a bully, a screamer, a guy who'd thrown things at employees and injured them and had to pay settlements to them, and also a guy who was gross with women. But I don't think it was widely known how bad it was over there. It was a criminal enterprise. The whole company was diverted by Harvey's predatory activities. He turned his female assistants and executives into accomplices (and I use that term deliberately-some may face criminal liability).

Lots of reporters tried to nail the abusive-Harvey story over the years. The two stories that recently broke are amazing work. Good for those reporters. The abusive-boss story is still out there to be broken, but will be an anticlimax.

NBC should be ashamed of itself.

And while Harvey certainly had media enablers and accomplices, he had to pay those women off because he knew that if he didn't, and enough of them went to the press, someone would run the story. If not Variety, the Hollywood Reporter. If not the Reporter, the LA Times. If not the LA Times, the NY Times. Or the Wall Street Journal. Someone. He didn't have enough clout or enough friends or enough money to silence everybody, so he silenced the victims and his employees. Until now.

A lotta shoes still to drop. There are probably hundreds of victims. Maybe thousands, over a decades-long career.

This is exactly it, just about to post this. All about power and control.
his approach was pretty systemic and practiced
Nitro : 10/12/2017 6:50 pm : link
in the leak audio it is interesting how you can see what is tantamount to his sales tactics at work - first, it being better to ask for forgiveness than permission "I'm sorry I did that to you yesterday' after already groping her, then he asks for just a simple, easy favor 'just come in for one minute' aka foot in the door and when she still rebuffs him he hits her with 'fine, goodbye, the friendship is over' ultimatum.

This was well practiced and probably worked most of the time and is pretty textbook abuse of power. He's a sack of shit for whom suicide is an easy way out.

If Rose McGowan had been raped by Weinstein, why would she go to the head of studio but not to the police?

how much of a scumbag Weinstein is. Entourage referenced it years ago (and no doubt wasn't the only one).

This is above even O'Reilly & Ailes (which is not to excuse how gross & creepy they are). Weinstein is a true predator. Probably won't see jailtime though...too rich and likely minimal hard evidence.

Seth McFarlane made a joke about it when announcing the best supporting actress nominations for the 2012 Oscars. Something like "congratulations, you don't have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein anymore".
That joke was in response to a good friend as one of his victims.

This is the piece that Weinstein allegedly asked Matt Damon (in Italy filming at the time) to help cover up.

The head of the studio she went to was many years later. She was upset because the rights to a script she wrote was sold to Weinstein, and she wanted to stop it.

That is disturbing, as at least Streep, Dench and Damon could be viewed as respected Statesmen for the Industry with little controversy of their own. But by all accounts, actors make their careers out of pretending to be people they aren't.

Young actress, just getting her career in gear, this guy comes along and forces himself on her, then she has a choice - live with it, take some hush money and continue her career, or try to out him in the face of forces much more powerful than she is trying to keep it quiet to protect a money maker.

Awful.

Also you have Roman Polanski who anally raped a 13 year old girl. He was arrested in Europe in 2009 and 100 actors/film makers/directors etc signed a petition to have him released including some big ones:

Woody Allen
Monica Bellucci
Buck Henry
David Lynch
Michael Mann
Martin Scorcese
Tilda Swinton

The Polanski case is really interesting and complex because the victim herself has always wanted to case against him to be dropped. She says she was far less traumatized by Polanski's actions than the media circus it caused and seems to resent that the portrayal of the rape does not meet the reality of it.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy it from anyone. Any at least midlevel actor, director, producer, whatever over the last 25 years has to have at least heard rumors. That's why the jokes were getting into 30 Rock episodes and the Oscars show, because the writers were expecting their audience to get the jokes. Most of them likely heard a lot more than just rumors, too - quite a few of them probably know at least one victim personally.

because he keeps thinking it's a good idea to put himself in front of the camera.

I'll give him Reservoir Dogs which was before he was on the map. But Pulp he knew would be huge. Then he did it again in Four Rooms & Django.

So something is clearly fundamentally off about the man.
In those cases, it's at least understandable because they're his own

agemiller says Weinstein made multiple advances toward her throughout the two-month period that the movie was shot, including forcing her to kiss him, and that while she talked about Weinstein’s behavior to cast and others but that everyone from her agents to Weinstein’s producing partners and everyone else in the business told her not to “cause any trouble,” that “Harvey’s Harvey” and that if she spoke out too much, it would “definitely hurt your career.”

One incident Sagemiller recounted was where Weinstein coaxed her into his hotel room to “discuss the script.” She got a call from one of Weinstein’s assistants telling her to go to Weinstein’s hotel room. She told the assistant she wasn’t comfortable with that but the assistant insisted. Sagemiller told her boyfriend before going to the room. When she arrived, Weinstein was in a robe, had drinks ready, and asked her to give him a massage. She said no. He told her he was going to shower, and later told her that she can’t leave until she kisses him. He then walked in front of the door and put his hand on it, then referenced that Renée Zellweger and Charlize Theron “did it.”

“‘Well, Renée did it and Charlize did it and this other actress did it. Don’t you want your career to be more than just this little teen film?” I said, ‘No, I’m not interested, thank you very much.’ He said, ‘Well, you can’t leave until you kiss me.’ He literally would not let me leave. I said fine and kissed him on the lips. He sort of held my head and made me kiss him, and then he’s like, ‘OK, you can go now. That’s all I wanted. Just do what I say and you can get your way.'”

Former “Sports Illustrated” model Angie Everhart says Harvey Weinstein masturbated in front of her on a boat during the Cannes Film Festival over 10 years ago.

“This isn’t really easy to talk about,” she told TMZ on Friday. “I was on a friend’s boat. Harvey walked in, walked in front of me, took his pants down, did his thing, exited on the floor, if you know what I mean, pulled his pants back up, said ‘You’re a really nice girl. Don’t tell anybody about this,’ and left.”

She added that she had just arrived at the festival and went to take a nap when she awoke to find him standing above her.

“He was blocking the door,” she said, “I couldn’t get out.”

Everhart, 48, said she immediately told everyone what happened.

“I told people on the boat. I told people at the dinner I was at. Everybody was like, ‘Oh, that’s just Harvey,'” she explained. “When I talked about it before, nobody listened and now people are listening and … I’m glad people are listening so it doesn’t happen anymore because it’s not OK … This kind of behavior is not OK.”

After the incident, she steered clear of Weinstein, although she says she saw him all the time.

“There isn’t a single person who is anybody in this business who doesn’t know that Harvey Weinstein has been like that,” she said of celebrities who have been claiming not to know. “If they know Harvey, they know he’s been like that.”
