If it were Frazier/Ellsbury/Headley, I agree send him. But that was a hard hit single to left. You don't send a slow running first baseman who has had ankle injuries all year.
With two outs he has to be sent. It was crushed, but if Bird doesn't stumble or jab step before 3rd and slides properly he scores....
the ball was hit pretty damn hard, and the LF is playing far more shallow (because of the park) than anyone would normally play Aaron Judge. When the ball gets over the head of the SS, Bird was already halfway to third base.
Terrible baserunning. With 2 outs and full count and your on second base you take your lead behind the bag not even with it to cut the angle. That causes him a few steps when he slowed down rounding third to cut the angle. Terrible job by him and by the third base coach right there

He is one of those pitchers that if he is on... which he is tonight- you have to sit on the softer stuff and try to go the other way- that is not what the Yankees do... sit on junk and react to fast ball....
You really have to look for the junk with him and just lay off the ctap out of the zone. He just simply doesn't throw anything over the middle of the plate.
