but this really does feel like Handley part II. It's not so much the record, as much as it appears that the team is ready to abandon McAdoo.
I always appreciate contributions from the BBI insiders, whether the info is acurate or not. Slade has been right in the past, and he has been wrong in the past. However, there is a lot of logic to what he has provided.
If you are Mara, you just might want to get a look at Spags, and better to do it in 2017 than maybe 2018. He is well respected in the organization, has a clean slate with the offensive players, is respected by his defensive players, has a ring, won't call the offensive plays, and coached Hall of Fame caliber players. True, the Rams were a bust, but there is a long list of good coaches who went to the Rams and failed. Also, the historical trend is for NFL coaches to do better with their 2nd franchise than their first. See Coughlin and Bellichick as good examples.
I'm not saying Slade is right, but with all we have seen the last two weeks, plus the DRC debacle, and the way McAdoo seemingly could not be bothered to support OBJ last Sunday when the hardest playing offensive player on your team just broke his ankle trying to catch a high pass on a 2nd and short, in what was likely already a meaningless game for your team, is anyone really surprised that Mara might actually break with Giants convention and fire a coach mid-season? I'm not. I know it is not how they do things, but THIS SEASON should not be how they do things. This organization has gotten accustomed to losing in recent years and you need to rip that out at the root.
Plus, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that Mara really doesn't want to fire Reese. The Giants don't fire GMs, and firing a GM means you really have a dumpster fire on your hands. If you show McAdoo the door before November, you have two months to evaluate Spags. If Spags brings the team back to life (not talking about wins, just execution and being competative) then McAdoo becomes 100% the fall guy, and Mara can get on the podium after Christmas and say how Spags righted the ship and talent wasn't the problem with the team and therefore Reese stays. Then you add some OL talent, find a real OLB, draft a QB of the future (Rosen?), put Eli back in an Eli friendly offense (playaction anyone?) run by Sullivan, and your problem is solved. Sounds so easy doesn't it.
At first I thought there was no way a change would be made at the bye, but 0-7 is as bad as it gets. 0-7 when there were high expectations. 0-7 would require the Giants to go 4-5 just to get to 4-12! 0-7 warrants a change.
As he said if the players quit you can already see fractures on this team. The defense clearly hates Mac. Spags could be in a room and the Giants could see what they have and Mike Sullivan. Most likely won’t happen but for those of you trashing Slade, ease up. Just because the Giants have never done anything crazy like terminate a coach mid season doesn’t mean they won’t. They actually fired Fassel with 2-3 games left and he asked to finish out the season as a lame duck. Never say never. Mcadoo earned this by being inflexible.
Giants lose to Denver a lot of season ticket holders will b dumping their tickets on stub hub . Get blown out by Seattle at home with with their fans yelling lets go Seahawks & still with Philly Wash & Dallas coming to town with their fans I could see Mara letting him go after the Seattle game
the final score may indicate 'quit'.
The O will struggle vs. the Denver D, no doubt, but I think they keep trying.
The D may be the indicator if they still tackle poorly and cant stop 3rd downs .If its 21-0 or more by halftime and they come out flat and make halfhearted effort on Denvers first 2 possessions, at a minimum Spags and staff will be publicly put on notice which could be the ease-in to stronger actions we hope for.

Mathematically, 0-7 is far from as bad as it gets. They're not going to make a change midseason. Get used to it.
It's like some of you just started following this team this year. You know darn well that they're not going to make a change midseason.
McAdoo is not Coughlin. TC was Wellington's hire and after 2 Super Bowls and knowing TC was the last man his father endorsed as head coach, there was added loyalty there.
If this team is 0-7 with an injured/fractured locker room, I can easily see changes. Remember, this is not a just any 0-5 start. This was supposed to be a super bowl campaign. Every move mad this past offseason was with a 1-2 year window in mind for the QB.
To say things have gone off the rails would be putting it mildly.

. Could care less about season ticket holders. Hope they get nothing on stubhub
His W-L record this year is hovering right around the Giants...

Run Run Runaway - ( New Window )
They will ride it to the end.....it makes absolutely no sense to just hire a new HC, again....sweeping changes are necessary.....
Sums it all up!!

It's incredibly unlikely that any change will be made during the season. Did you just start watching the Giants this year?
Forgive my memory but didn't Belichek fail at his first HC job? How did that turn out?
He knows simple math, that's about it.

Quote:
McAdoo and Spags are proven failures at head coach. Mike Sullivan deserves equal opportunity to show he can fail too as head coach.
Forgive my memory but didn't Belichek fail at his first HC job? How did that turn out?
Please tell me what does Sullivan do? How can I get paid like him for doing nothing?
There won't be an interim coach. And if, by some confluence of circumstance there is one, it'll be Spagnuolo. Your hot take is lukewarm at best.
