The issue is that Houston isn't making the little mistakes. The Yankees are.

Neither was Judge. Only difference, the outside balls Judge was getting were off the plate. Verlander was happy to get a K or walk, Yankees were greedy going for the K.

Houston has been dominant. The Yankees are a better, more talented team but the Astros are better versed in the fundamentals. That's the easy part and the Yankees coaching staff is lacking. Only two players went oppo all day for the Yankees.
Yea the Stros are making every play and pitch you need to make
Stu11 : 10/14/2017 7:31 pm : link
In a 2-1 game and the Yanks aren't. Its that simple.
Cleveland made mistakes....Houston has not so far....
LarmerTJR : 10/14/2017 7:31 pm : link
That’s the difference. Also, yes, Judge need to hit the right man, and yes, Correa showed up at 2nd at the worse possible time, but, the throw one hopes right in Snachez’s Glove, and the runner by 5 feet if he fields it cleanly. Despite everything, he NEEDS to catch that grow.

Yup, this. But Houston's starters are not going to be doing the same thing in the Bronx. Hinch has zero faith in the pen for good reason. If CC can pitch his game, the Yankees will unload on Charlie Morton and get that Astros pen lit up.

Game 3 and Game 4 will be by far the worst pitchers the Yankees have faced in the post season, maybe since the Twins game. If the Astros fall behind early, in the Bronx, the wheels will come off for them because their pen won't keep the Yankees in check. Houston better score quick in those games because chances are very strong they will get out of hand quick.
A lot of this comes down to inexperience
mfsd : 10/14/2017 7:42 pm : link
Judge not instinctually knowing Altuve would likely try to score and adapting accordingly...hitters who can’t make adjustments against tough pitchers in the playoffs. Note that it’s the veteran bats that have been coming through, as little as they have been

We’re all frustrated bc we know this Yanks team has the talent and the pitching to win these games, but there’s another level they haven’t quite gotten to yet. Series is far from over, let’s see how quickly they can adapt
They've gotten 6 good starting pitching performances in a row
shockeyisthebest8056 : 10/14/2017 7:42 pm : link
and they clearly have advantages in each of the next 2 games. But you have to be able to make contact in the postseason and it's not just Judge/Sanchez who're the culprits. I'd consider moving Hicks up to the 2-spot and moving everyone else down.

pitchers. These are top of the top of the line pitchers and McCann knows the Yankees hitters.
Holding the Astros to two two run games is pretty freakin' good in anyone's book.

Frustrating to see them swinging at all the garbage, but maybe Didi's 8th inning hit will show them what to do..
If the Yankees were going to lose two games
B in ALB : 10/14/2017 8:10 pm : link
These are the two games to lose. On the road against an ace and a guy who pitched like it was 2006 tonight. No reason they can't win two or three at home in the Bronx.

Now if that happens they need to beat Keuchel once. But you have to get there first.

I'm pretty optimistic about our chances moving forward. It fucking sucks to be down 0-2 but this team just dealt with the same situation last week. We need to break the wood out in the bronx
There's also the possibility

Right now Sanchez appears to be near useless on both sides of the ball. He's meekly swinging at pitches a foot out of the strike zone, and can't hold on to a throw. Maybe give Romine a shot. At least, his head isn't all F'd up right now.

Baseball is a game of
section125 : 10/15/2017 7:40 am : link
superstitions, besides inches. I kept going to the CFB games and some golf late in the game to break the jinx (desperate fan syndrome), so I never saw the winning run. I figured if I didn't watch they'd get it done and I could see the highlights. Not!?!

So far the difference in the series is the Astros are making all the bang-bang plays and the Yankees are not. No need to list them and there have really only been about 5.

The good news, as far as I am concerned, is that every single good thing has happened to the Astros and every single "bad" thing has happened to the Yanks, and they still only lost 2-1 in each game. While I did not think the Indians were the better team as I watched the series, I do think the Astros are better right now, especially at the plate (duh). Unless Sanchez and Judge start to hit and stop chasing sliders, they will not advance. Altuve and Correa are just better hitters. I do think that the indoor lighting may be bothering them just a touch.

Anyway, our #3 and #4 starters are better than theirs. Get home, get right, score some runs and get back to Houston 2-2.

I think you guys that are killing Sanchez for not holding on to the ball, well, if you watched the Cubs-Dodgers last night, Contreras blocked the plate, tagged the runner who had not touched home, and the runner was safe because of blocking. With Sanchez at least attempting to do the same, it's 50-50 that they might have called Altuve safe even if Sanchez made that tag. Can't stick that leg out anymore to block the plate.
