NGT: College Football QB watch - results and where to watch

allstarjim : 10/14/2017 4:26 pm
I know there is another thread for general CFB discussion. Given the interest in the potential of the Giants looking at the heir apparent to Eli Manning in the 2018 draft, I wanted to give an update on this weekend's games as well as where you can watch the games.

Sam Darnold - Utah vs USC 8:00pm on ABC

Josh Rosen - UCLA at Arizona 9:00pm - If you get the PAC 12 network, you can watch, otherwise, not seeing it's televised.

If you were interested in Lamar Jackson, Louisville already lost to Boston College today. Louisville is now 4-3 (1-3 in conference). Jackson was a miserable 19-39 passing for 339 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. But he also ran the ball 22 times for 180 yards and 3 scores. He'll be a nice player in the NFL, playing something other than QB.

Josh Allen - Wyoming @ Utah State Aggies about to start at 4:30pm. Not televised.

Clayton Thorson - Northwestern @ Maryland on right now, ESPN2, Thorson off to a bad start.

Luke Falk - Washington State @ Cal - Played last night, Falk got and the Cougs got spanked, Falk threw for 5 INTs. Ouch. 28-43 passing, 286 yards, 0 TDs. Box score also says 12 runs for MINUS 50 YARDS. And that's bcause Cal racked up 9 sacks.

Baker Mayfield - Oklahoma at Texas - on right now, ESPN. 1st quarter wrapping up. Mayfield off to a hot start, 4-5, 101 passing yards and a TD.

Mason Rudolph - Oklahoma St vs Baylor - also on right now, on FS1. Tie game, Rudolph is 2-5 for 52 and a score thus far.

Jarrett Stidham - Auburn at LSU - on CBS right now, Stidham leading the Tigers from Alabama over the Tigers from Louisiana 17-0, Stidham 5-7 for 119 yards and a score. I expect his stock to rise.

Jackson is worse

than RGIII as a QB. One trick pony whose trick does NOT work in the NFL.

NC State's DE Bradley Chubb

suffers ugly finger injury. He only missed 4 plays.

WARRIOR!!
It's Both Sad and Exciting...

That we're thinking in these terms.

I had already planned to check out Rosen tonight on the PAC 12 Network. Didn't realize until now that USC was on ABC. I'll get a chance to see both QBs after the Yankee game.

Don't agree. I think he's a better prospect than DeShaun Watson.
I have the TCU game on FS1

Instead of OK State for some reason.
Jackson threw for less than 50% completions vs BC
PatersonPlank : 10/14/2017 7:53 pm : link
You can't just be a runner in the NFL. IMO, Webb is a far better prospect that Jackson. In fact the only QB I remotely like in this class is Rosen. As of right now I'd stick with Webb and draft the PSU RB or an OL.
Lamar Jackson will be a WR in the NFL

2 fumbles, on returned for a TD, and should've been picked off once. Not good. Its not like Utah has an NFL defense either. That's why I think we have to give Webb a shot. His senior season, which these guys are only partially the way through, was better than they will do (Rosen could possible match it), he's got all the size and skills, and he's shown well with what he has been given so far. All this talk of "franchise QBs" when the kids are still in college are crazy. No one knows if these QB's will be good in the NFL or not. At least with Webb we have a little less risk since the staff has been watching him for a year.

Hahahahaha. Seriously. Look up Watson's college career vs Jackson's so far. It's no comparison. They are eons apart, that's not an exaggeration. Watson refused to let his team lose.

I'm all for giving Webb a shot. I think people are in love with Darnolds size, throws a nice ball, tho not very accurate, and he's played well for the most part at a big program
Josh Allen today
allstarjim : 10/14/2017 9:36 pm : link
Not tremendous numbers but against a better program engineered a 4th quarter comeback, throwing a 28 yard TD for the go-ahead score with under 4 minutes to play, Wyoming over Utah State 28-23. Allen 18-26 for 208, 1-1.
Does anyone think if the Giants draft a qb he would succeed behind
SterlingArcher : 10/14/2017 9:47 pm : link
this crappy oline! If they were to draft a qb he would be doomed to fail and those who advocated drafting a qb would be screaming...bust!

You're assuming he will play behind this same O-line. He won't.

Consensus on the board is Webb was a throw away pick???? Can’t be the heir apparent
Is anyone really impressed with any of these supposed

Out of them all he would be the one that If we're drafting for one, I want
Darnold with a monster 2nd half.
Toastt34 : 10/14/2017 11:55 pm : link
Play of the game was actually his 15 yd run on 3rd and 10 backed up with the game tied. He had some rough moments but he also had some plays where you can see why he gets the hype.
Darnold looks like a very talented player that could use another year
Devon : 10/15/2017 12:05 am : link
in college ball.

Also, I do think Jackson could be a QB at the next level, but he'd need to be taken as a full project. Not anywhere near the top of the draft like where the Giants will be looking.

That's not what anyone is saying, but you don't pass on a QB worthy of a top three selection because of the third round pick you spent on a QB the year before. If the Giants headed into next season with Eli, Webb, and Rosen on their 53-man roster, that's a pretty good situation to be in when it comes to the most important position in sports.
There’s a type there depending on who you like
Sammo85 : 10/15/2017 9:34 am : link
Rudolph is an intriguing guy to me. I get a Big Ben vibe with him. I think he’ll be a guy with a lot of helium towards draft day.

I also like Allen, Rosen, Darnold. All very very good prospects.

Not really sold on Mayfields projection.

Falk has looked horrible.
you guys really love your shiney new toys
idiotsavant : 10/15/2017 10:17 am : link
I mean, drafting Apple, Evan Engram, David Wilson and Becks in the first round was like leasing a Porshe, A BMW, a Mini Minor and a Formula One Car, parking them in your driveway....

....all the while you are not paying the mortgage and have a leaky roof.

I mean, fix the frigging roof, pay the mortgage, before you start parking all that fancy shit in your front yard.
Darnold has a strong arm
section125 : 10/15/2017 11:02 am : link
and a Marino like release, but he'd suit the Giants well. Tosses INTs and fumbles like Eli......but you can see the ability.

Rudolph is rising fast.. 6-5 230, who can move and has a nice touch. Makefield is nothing more than a backup.

Considering he had a much better team, not at all surprising.
