A nine-year joint research project has led to a crucial breakthrough in cancer research. Scientists have clarified how the Warburg effect, a phenomenon in which cancer cells rapidly break down sugars, stimulates tumor growth. This discovery provides evidence for a positive correlation between sugar and cancer, which may have far-reaching impacts on tailor-made diets for cancer patients. |
I might live longer but the number of years in my life will be directly proportional to the horror in those years.
We feed fast food to kids because nobody has time to cook and then they develop a taste for super sweet and super savory foods.
Fortunately, I never have had a sweet tooth and most baked goods, like Krispy Kreme donuts, taste nauseatingly sweet to me.
But I definitely have a problem with salt that I have slowly been trying to break because my blood pressure already became high in my 30s
So many people obsessively ordering “low fat” items, then pouring sugar in their coffee, eating cereals loaded with sugar, drinking a myriad of sodas and other drinks saturated in sugar, not to mention the mountains of junk food readily available, without realizing the damage it’s doing.
It’s really a shame, but I’m glad the wool is finally being pulled from our eyes as a society
Doing it right.

Fat is still not great. If the original recommendation to avoid fat was followed and we DIDN’T replace it with sugar, we’d all be much healthier. The real culprit is excess calories. Sugar is only harmful because it crams tons of extra calories into your food and your body deals with that by making cholesterol and fat. More important than watching your sugar intake- you should be watching your caloric intake.
But what about breads, starches etc which contain sugars?
I seriously doubt my one small teaspoon of sugar in my two or three cups of coffee are hurting anything - a whooping 45 calories that is probably burned off digesting the coffee.

I agree. Common sense goes a long way in applying any health protocol, like anything else in life.
That is sugar.
This is been written about and presented in several different ways from all across the scientific and health communities - sugar is in everything now. High fructose corn syrup doesn't say SUGAR - but it has been the top ingredient of processed food to make them cheaper to make yet still palatable. Addicting actually. When you start thinking about socio economics and how much decent groceries cost this is a huge topic

All good points - my point is, if we were conditioned to treat sugar like we treat fat over the past 50 years, I bet as a society a lot of epidemic level health issues might not be what they’ve become.
There’s obviously a difference between a teaspoon of sugar in a cup of coffee, and pouring half a container...just like there’s a difference between spreading a little butter over toast, and wolfing down a plate of French fries very heavy in fat and salt. Moderation and balance should be the goal in everything, but what we’re starting to learn now about the huge amounts of sugar (and salt) in our everyday foods, and the adverse effects on healthy, are pretty scary
What's not to like?
Having said all that, a sensible diet, low in refined sugar and highly processed foods and high in fresh fruits and veggies along with regular exercise to keep the extra pounds off and keeping the ol’ ticker strong will outpace all but the most unavoidable hereditary disease.
corn syrup being the most evil substance known to man ..
what people don't realize is processed junk foods are CHEAP that is why poor eat them .. that is why poor have obesity problem (no they aren't lazy and jobless .. just poor).
my wife is Brazilian and I have been going to Brazil for 25 years -- when I first went there .. there was no fast food no processed foods in super markets.. the poor had a diet of fresh foods the poor there were healthy and think - there were no problem with obesity in Brazil
fast forward -- now poor in Brazil have all processed junk foods that US has and gee what happen? suddenly Brazil has obesity problem especially among the poor .

It's that high fructose corn syrup is the #1 ingredient of 80% of the supermarket.
That is sugar.
Totally different animal, if you google it you'll never want to touch it again, it is not digested well by the stomach and accumulates in your liver, worst shit ever!
BTW, the Science Daily article referred to in the o.p. is about the effect of sugars on already existing cancer cells. It doesn't appear to say anything about sugar causing cancer.

Agreed.
