Weston Richburg

MookGiants : 10/15/2017 11:20 pm
He'd have to give the Giants a significant discount to stay in New York next year imo. He's had two really poor years in a row and the line simply looks better without him. Richburg at decent money or Jones making little is a no brainer imo. Jones isn't great by any stretch but he's better than Richburg at this point
I simply don't understand how he looked so good two years ago

Let's see how he plays....

No thanks

Goodbye what. A bust
Let him walk
KentGraham : 10/15/2017 11:24 pm : link
He's a JAG, had one good season and three poor to below-average seasons. I hope they keep Jones until they can replace him with someone better, but I think Jones buys them some time before the position becomes a problem.

I thought he was all-pro bound.

Why? He has been pushed around for a year and a half. Jones looks good in the middle and he's another guy who was really only suited to play OC. He should remain at OC for now.
I don't know about when he comes back.
St. Jimmy : 10/15/2017 11:31 pm : link
Him and Perkins should be the modern day versions of Wally Pipp without Lou Gerhig replacing him.
They'll plug him back in for Jones when he's ready
PatersonPlank : 10/15/2017 11:32 pm : link
They've shown that before

He was hurt last year, but that doesn't explain how bad he was in preseason and regular season 2017.

That actually seems to happen to quite a few Giants. His decline is more dramatic than most, but a decline or at least a failure to improve seems pretty common for our promising young guys.

Replaced by a Canadian.... as if he was working for Ford.
Jones doesn't get a lot of push but when he gets pushed back
bigbluescot : 10/15/2017 11:38 pm : link
it tends to happen slowly. You can live with that.
I actually think Jones and Westburg are interchangable
PatersonPlank : 10/15/2017 11:38 pm : link
I see no difference between the two when they are in

Because he was hurt last year, has shown an ability to play at a high level previously, and in a couple of weeks people will be bitching about Jones.
And if you want to part ways with Richburg
Reb8thVA : 10/15/2017 11:41 pm : link
Do it in the off season by drafting or signing some one who is bigger and more stout. Jones is not a long term answer.
Jones is a good
section125 : 10/15/2017 11:42 pm : link
lineman. He played a very good center.

Pugh should never have been moved from RT.
long term
Giantimistic : 10/15/2017 11:43 pm : link
I like Jones long term. You can't pay everyone big money. You need some players like Jones on the team. He seems smart and a hard worker and is showing he can get the job done.
Maybe Richburg will start
CT Charlie : 10/15/2017 11:43 pm : link
to play for his contract, his future. I really think he hasn't been 100% healthy for two years.

I'm just wondering if he had the opportunity to really train in the offseason or if he spent most of the time recovering.

Fair question. I know it was a hand/wrist issue.
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/15/2017 11:45 pm : link
Maybe that's the case, but he's always been a bit undersized for his position.
He is a bust
Vanzetti : 10/15/2017 11:47 pm : link
Not a total bust. He might evolve into a decent player. But last two years he has clearly been a below average Center

No way do you offer him a big deal. I actually just want him gone

You could sign Jones cheap
I don't think Jones is any great shakes
jcn56 : 10/15/2017 11:49 pm : link
but it's hard to deny that he's an improvement over Richburg.

Count me among those who can't understand what happened to him. I know he was hurt last season, but even before that injury his play was tailing off. That comes on the heels of playing OK while out of position as a rookie and an extremely promising sophomore campaign.

It almost seems like it all went downhill when he went to the Lecharles Bentley camp that he kept yammering on about.
It's probably better to go with Jones
phil in arizona : 10/15/2017 11:52 pm : link
and spend the money on tackle.
Didn't his good year happen under TC/Flaherty?
St. Jimmy : 10/15/2017 11:53 pm : link
I thought they changed line schemes when McAdoo took over as head coach.

You can ask Sy but I believe he attributed his "good" year to getting a lot of help. On his own he's been sub par.
Seemed to me Pecko

was shoving Jones all over the place but I wouldn't be
afraid to let Richberg walk and look for a stronger prospect .

Peko is good. He will do that to a lot of centers. Veteran NT who's consistently played on really good defenses.
Have some of you watched the games?
Carl in CT : 10/16/2017 5:54 am : link
Jones is our best OL-man by far the last two games.
They have to keep Pugh
jeff57 : 10/16/2017 6:01 am : link
If Richburg goes, it wouldn't be a great loss.
I've been saying it since the offseason.
GiantGolfer : 10/16/2017 7:38 am : link
Richburg is not a good Center. To spend any money on re-signing him would be insane. I'm not saying Jones is anything special but I have no issues letting him play next year and drafting another Center.
Yes I watched the games and Pecko

Was in the backfield the entire 1st half I am nor knocking
Jones I am just saying let Richberg walk keep Pugh at
RT and see how Flowers season goes I am sure the much maligned offensive line played with dome anger this putting
Hart back in there didn't make a lick of sense they need to
groom him at guard he is not a Tackle .

Agree 100% Richburg has been getting pushed around for years. Why people seem to think he's a potential pro bowler is puzzling. He certainly looks the part but rarely plays the part.

Richburg shouldn't be commanding much in the market
Jimmy Googs : 10/16/2017 8:48 am : link
If the Giants want to roll the dice on this guy bouncing back then they should be able to.

Maybe competition for his job will wake his butt up...
Richburg, IMO,
fkap : 10/16/2017 9:14 am : link
is not someone you plan on long term. At this point, it's obvious you need someone better. Play Jones until the wheels fall off. See if he's the one to pursue for next year. It very well be that Jones will be more in demand than Richburg in FA.

At this point, only resign Richburg at a low reasonable price to be either a stop gap starter, or backup. If there's any sort of bidding war, bow out quickly.
Richburg has consistently scored
gmen9892 : 10/16/2017 9:19 am : link
Out as a high graded pass blocker. He doesnt have the strength to move people in the running game, which is why I have always thought that he needed a mauler next to him at RG to help. Fluker might be that guy for him in the run game and Richburg can help with Fluker's deficiency in pass blocking.

I would like to see him get a shot with this current OL configuration before we bury the guy and say hes a bust.
