The kid can play. We knew he had the skills physically it’s just a matter of putting it all together mentally. Now it’s time to take it to the next level and play consistently well.
About the yawk talking after the game, I don’t care. I like a mouthy defense. Get some swagger with this bunch and make the big plays and say the fuck what you want to the other team.
Did we watch the same game? He got beat a few times.
Might have had his best game as a pro. So yeah idk what you were watching.
If that's his best game as a pro, then he's an awful awful corner. He played better, but he was far from lights out.
Jenkins got burned far more times than Apple. And that dumb ass jump onto D Thomas at the 7 yard line is something you'd expect from Apple. I still think Jenkins ankle is hurt....
I know who Jenkins and Apple are. Jenkins got beat by Thomas a few times, but did manage a pick 6 and a strip fumble. Apple played better, but he gave up his share of completions to Sanders, Taylor, and Fowler. He was far from shut down.
Sanders moves all over the field from outside to slot Â
So Cockrell and Apple had to cover him. Even so, 5 for 76 years isn't a big deal. To say he played awful is a bit strange. He had a good night, certainly his best night of the year. Nobody else on the Bronco WR side did anything to impact the game besides Thomas.
And denver was awful on third down. This isn't really anything to argue about.
On every one of his plays, the camera caught him taunting or showboating. I mean, if people are going to get on OBJ, (maybe the should), then it's hypocritical to say Apple can run his mouth so long as he makes good plays.
It's a new thing for me, because last year I thought he should a little more humility, especially when it came to the controversy about his mom. But this year, he seems to over the top (often times, quite literally).
One of his best games for certain. Mostly because he has Â
The showboating stuff is comical considering how often he has been beaten.
Have no idea what the hell Jenkins was doing tonight a few times.
And when the hell is one of our Free Safeties going to actually make a play downfield? I thought Adams sucked last year but Thompson is doing an Adams impersonation by showing up a second late on all plays.
Btw- if you play fantasy football, assume the Giants give up a TD to the opposing Tight End. It's only happened every game thus far.
was his best game of the year, but he's very immature. So is OBJ. Where was that performance before last night, when we instead saw him unable to find the ball?
He was showboating after each incompletion. I dont even hate when players showboat, but Apple hasn't been good for long enough to be doing the finger wags after each incompletion. Also feel like he is 1 second away each time from committing a penalty, be it holding or PI.
It was the best game overall of his young career though, so here's it hoping the lightbulb came on for him and he puts together a few good games in a row.
especially from lesser players, but it's part of the NFL product. Most players do it to some extent. I've sort of learned to not give a shit as long as it doesn't cost the team penalty yards.
Talib was getting on him and he raised his game. We are always so quick to be critical. Kid played a great game and continue to learn. Also seems like our free safety is getting his legs under him in respect to the speed of the pro game.
What a piece of garbage. You won one game, bro. Relax. Another winner of a human being drafted by the GM.
Eli is not a bad guy. He's immature and was a bit coddled growing up. Let's be happy he finally played better and not start making character assessments based on second hand reports from beat writers looking for a story/
RE: Apparently, he was taunting Broncos players after the game. Â
You’d think Eli Apple was an Iggle the way some folks here are killing him.
The Giants DBs have had a rough season. I’m glad they came out and played with swagger and talked some smack. Do I want to see it in a losing effort? Hell no. When you’re a double digit winless underdog on the road and you come out and smack the other team in the mouth and shut em down? Ok. Now start to stack the wins.
this year, and he's deserved it. Mostly on the field stuff, but seemingly maturity issues as well
So to be fair, he has made significant improvements the last couple games
--better hustle and more active on the field (see aggressive fumble recovery last night)
--a better job turning around with the ball in the air (although he could not have gotten worse).
These are good things. He might be in the process of saving his career right now, so it's good to see. I would not expect him to fix all his problems at once, but it's a good start
Hard to say he didn't look stellar tonight. Loved the fire he showed, talking with Talib on the DEN sideline after he won against a DEN receiver.
And most of those receptions were when the Giants were in prevent mode and letting the WRs catch short passes in front of them to keep the clock running.

WRs and CBs just showboat. That's the way it is these days. It's part of NFL culture at those positions.
the second he starts playing like OBJ. He had one good game - I'm happy for him, but he was miserably bad leading up to it. He should probably hold his tongue until he sees whether this is a trend for him or just an aberration.

That's no shutdown stats. He needed to give up 0 catches for 0 yards to have a shutdown performance.

It doesn’t have to be 0 catches to be be shutdown. Shutdown is what Jenkins did to Dez last season. Dude was saying he was playing like Deion yesterday and I corrected him.
but I'm really curious if they changed the defensive coverages to include a bit more zone. Apple has been left alone on an island for many of these games, where he's been targeted with success. His speed has been okay - mostly been able to keep up with receivers. His technique is what has cost him.
I wonder if there were changes to the assignments to give him a bit more confidence to look back and play the ball in the air, instead of overreacting to the receiver's route.
Also, although Jenkins did give up some plays, sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the competition. For example, Jenkins had excellent coverage on one long Marshall completion. Even got his hand in the perfect location to dislocate the ball after the catch. He was hit by the safety as they were coming down, and the WR made an impressive catch.
To me that isn't bad play, it's just getting beat, which can happen. Not like he was toasted on a double-move or something - he was right where he was supposed to be.

Might have had his best game as a pro. So yeah idk what you were watching.

“Lights out” is not something I typed. Best game as a pro in less than a two year career isn’t that far fetched IMO.

apple played much better tonite, maybe the sitting the first 3 series last week turned a light on or something
much better effort tonite, lets hope he builds on it
flowers, as well, i'm really hoping its just a time and experience issue for some of these young guys

Are you confusing Jenkins with Apple? Jenkins covers the #1 opposing WR and Thomas caught 10 for 133.

Antrel Rolle was doing the same things at that age.
