Richburg, shouldn't be handed his job back when he's ready. Jones was solid. He looked like he new what he was doing. He got off the ball and was moving downfield on run blocks. Some of his chips in pass protection made a huge difference.
a couple weeks now. Outside of knowing our Line has issues (putting it mildly I know) I was curious if we should kick WR out to Guard where he played his rookie year. At least we sit Jerry.
However, I do not know what the fall off is between Richburg and Jones.
Richburg isn't good and was getting a free pass. He's weak and often collapses the pocket. Jones is an upgrade
We shouldn't be spending money on Richburg this offseason. Bring back Pugh and either roll with Jones or draft a replacement. For all the shit Flowers gets Eli also rarely has a pocket to to step into because Ricuburg can't control his blocks.
RE: been calling for Jones to have more playing time since last year Â
Yes he did! It was at an extremely critical time in the game too. He also laid the block that sprung Darkwa for his big run earlier in the game. Jones has absolutely earned the right to hold that spot for another week. It will be interesting to see what Mac does here.
Richburg was ranked as a 3rd - 4th rounder by most... Â
...based on that, he hardly underachieved. We were all hoping the Giants knew something everyone else didn't - that he was worth the 2nd round pick.
He wasn't.
From NFL.com 2014 draft projection: "Weaknesses - Lacks ideal girth and could be stressed by widebody nose tackles. Average hip snap -- lacks body power to blow defensive tackles off the ball. Lacks elite athleticism to execute reach blocks. Can improve grip strength to better control defenders (average sustain) -- slides off some blocks. Inconsistent contact balance, especially at the second level where he can be more efficient connecting and fitting.
Bottom Line - Adequate-sized, smart, experienced, competitive center who commanded the offensive line, made all the calls and was a team leader for the Rams. At worst, should stick as a backup, but has developmental value and starter potential in a zone scheme. Could help himself by proving versatile enough to back up at guard."
ready. Jones proved that he can be a starter in this league and should be given more opportunity, but that's generally not the way the Giants do things. Jones usually gets good leverage on DTs and he uses his size wisely. If he continues this type of play, he could definitively make Richburg expendable. Even Sean I hate made more of Jones play and he knows a thing or two a out the position. Jones was extremely successful in the CFL and although not the same quality as the NFL, it's still Football. It's taken Jones a couple of years to get used to the NFL game where the DTS line right up on top of you.
I think this OL earned at least another start with the current configuration. That said, not sure Jones is the long term answer at C. He might've been better than Richburg, but I saw a couple busted runs where he got pushed back and his man made the play. I'd be curious to know how some of the experts grade his overall performance yesterday.
Keep in mind that Sy/gidiefor and others have mentioned that the running game issues weren't all on the OL and some of it was the RB(s) missing the holes or hitting them late.

Not sure if he's physical enough to play guard.....I just don't like Jerry despite having a decent game last night.
