NFT: Mazda CX-5 (2017) question

tbonfig : 10/16/2017 11:14 am
Does anyone on here have this car? Or at least look into it? Test drove one this past weekend and was really with it. Feels more luxurious on the inside than the sticker would indicate. Ride was smooth and no CVT which I prefer (didn't like the CRV when I test drove it last weekend).

Just looking to lease, so long term it doesn't really matter to me, but seems like an upgrade from my Ford Escape (which I didn't mind at all) while also because about $50 cheaper / month!

Worth something! We also have friends with the car who love it.

Yeah I think the more aggressiveness is linked to the lack of a CVT
I have a 2015 CX5

It's my wife's primary car, but every time I get to drive it I enjoy it. Great steering and handling. The touring model has a good combination of power and fuel efficiency. 50K miles on it, and it still drives like new. Bose speakers sound excellent. Not in love with the installed Nav and touch screen radio controls, but that may have been improved in the 2017 version.
I have an older (2011) CX-9 Grand Touring
jcn56 : 10/16/2017 11:37 am : link
I've owned quite a few cars, but this one was dollar for dollar the best value I've ever owned. Handles great, extremely reliable. For a soccer mom SUV, it's got balls. I've owned it since new, it's never needed more than brakes, oil and tires. Not the most luxurious, but it more than makes up for it with the handling.

We have a 2012 CX-9 Grand Touring and I agree. We've been very happy with the car. Only knock you could make is fuel economy, and with a vehicle that large there's only so much more you could wring out of it anyway. Comfortable, reliable, roomy, drives well. Can't ask for more, especially at the price.
our friends returned it and got the bigger one after a month
mattlawson : 10/16/2017 12:17 pm : link
he loves it. she then got a new highlander through her work.

she likes the highlander more, he likes the mazda more.
and personally im looking to replace our 2008 pilot
mattlawson : 10/16/2017 12:19 pm : link
we have 3 kids now and I've been thinking about the cx-9. not sure if its big enough 3rd row seat but the price is better than these 70k vehicles. when the hell did cars get so damn expensive?

I used to complain about the fuel economy, then I leased an 8 cylinder Durango. I should just drive around with a long hose to the gas station now.
I bought the 2016 last year and love it.

Paid under $30k and a very good dealership experience (at least much better than I expected). My biggest complaint is that the entertainment system is a little clunky and slow, but perhaps that has improved this year. Overall, the car drives great for a 4-cylinder with decent pickup and good handling. And it has more storage room than you'd think looking at it from the outside. I highly recommend it.
I have a '13 Honda CRV
BigBlue2112 : 10/16/2017 12:22 pm : link
Love everything about it except for the transmission. Thinking of unloading it because the driving experience is sometimes awful because of it.
Diesel version should be coming out soon
SCGiantsFan : 10/16/2017 12:43 pm : link
If you thinking of increasing the gas mileage, you might wait for that version.

Had a 2016 Mazda 3, traded in for the 2017 Mazda 3. Honestly no complaints, tried to get my wife to get a 2017 CX-5.

Personal choice, but I advocate for Mazda all day long.

If you want to gee out about then a little more, see the link below.

I recently looked into all the compact SUV's and I was completely shocked at how expensive the Escape was compared to the CRV, CX5 and Rav 4. Any clue why they are priced so high? I got a Hybrid Rav 4 for almost $100 cheaper per month and the Escape I was looking into wasn't even the Titanium trim.
The Escape is expensive?
Greg from LI : 10/16/2017 1:01 pm : link
We almost went with a brand new Escape rather than used CX-9 last year. They were about the same price, $18K. Went with the CX-9 because of the third row and it having a bunch more options.

mattlawson - I can't speak on the new body style CX-9, as I have a 2012, but the third row on ours is pretty spacious. Plenty big enough for three kids or two adults. The space back there is why we went with the CX-9 over a Pathfinder, which has a much smaller third row.

This was exactly what we felt when test driving the CRV.

No clue. We were on a 1 car diet for a few months a couple years back to save some money and all I needed was an around town car with AWD, so we decided to look into American cars. We had an Audi SUV as the other car so the payments on that were crazy and the Escape seemed cheap in comparison. Until I started looking into them this year.

I'm paying like $430/month on a lease with 36 months and 12K miles. Zero, or close to it, down at signing.

The guy quoted me the CX5 for $390/month with similar setup (closing costs of 1500 down).

A surprise, at least to me, in my search, was that the Acura RDX can be had for about $470/month with similar parameters. I always thought they were going to be much more expensive based on my perception of them being true luxury cars. I enjoyed testing that but the two screen and shitty NAV is enough to steer me away (pun intended).

How is it that none of these automakers can figure out how to put a sophisticated technology package in their car? Our phones have better interfaces than these cars. Crazy.

How do you like the RAV4? We swung by the dealer on East Main the other day and was impressed with the specs on the Hybrid (but didn't test it yet).
I hate the East Main dealership

go to westport, much better service. The finance guy in Stamford is a greaseball, won't go back there.

Love the Hybrid Rav. Get on average 36 per gallon some trips in the 40's. Drives nice and plenty of room.
Love Mazda

I have a 2012 CX-9 (lowest model) and the car has been awesome. For its size, it is a fun drive and the build quality has been excellent. I have heard nothing but excellent reviews for the CX-5 as well.
