Going against the #1 defense on the road, after they had a bye, with no WR's to speak of, a lot of pundits (including the Sports Pope) are basically calling last night a fluke.
A lot of people are saying it is an unsustainable way of playing offense, and that the only reason the Giants won last night was because Denver overlooked the Giants and took them too lightly.
That all might be the case, but it will not take very long to find out if this OL is for real. We have the Seattle Seahawks coming in with the Legion of Boom. After the bye next week, we have Aaron Donald and the Rams defensive front coming in. You are probably not going to get 2 better tests outside of the Eagles (who the OL played well against, but they didnt have Cox that game) to see if this new found OL and run game is for real or if it is indeed a fluke.
Same can be said for the defense looking like its changed back last years form. If they are indeed back, they should be able to take advantage of a horrible Seattle OL and make their run game non-existent. Guys like Apple, Thompson, Goodson, Tomlinson, etc. need to show that they can put several good games together in a row, or last night will all be for naught.
Seattle will not be sleeping on us. But that doesn't mean that we can't win.

I agree. Each week is its own beast. Having said that, if you can go out and move the ball and protect Eli against 2 top defenses back to back, then the Giants OL might be on to something. Its one thing to catch the Broncos off-guard, its quite another to catch Seattle the week after in a road game that Seattle needs.
Right. Even more reason for this to be a nice judgement game. By all accounts, the Giants will not win this game. It is a measuring stick game again though for the Giants OL and offense specifically.
On O pound the rock and protect it! Keep running stay patient.
Take shots but only a few stay in 3rd and short situations. Protect Eli!!!!
On D Stop the run contain their QB's scrambling don,t give up the deep pass play, and force a few turn overs.
Into the bye at 2-5 who knows where they go after that.
Not nearly the best team ever, but this is specifically geared towards their defense, which has been Top 3 for years now and is again up there this year. Going against the Giants OL with WR's that totaled 30 career catches.
Also they were coming off a bye at home in front of a primetime crowd, I dont think anybody Giants fans or other, expected a close game, let alone a Giants win.

They're similar to Denver. Good D. Better against the pass that run the opposite of Denver. Average O. If we hold them to 17 we can win and it won't be a fluke either.

They have a very good D that held our O to 16 points. Just what you'd expect. Their O however is no great shakes. Not bad or anything but average with a very average QB. Their strength is their running game but the Giants' run D played up to it's potential and shut them down. That's no fluke. Made Siemian beat them and he couldn't. No fluke there either.

True. But that was the Giants' team where the Giants' own top 5 D hadn't shown up yet. It did and that's why it's no fluke. A surprise, sure.
No.....

Coming off a bye they were unprepared? Can't buy that.
That was a great effort from our offensive line and the defense looked really good (without DRC or Vernon) two of our best players.
How many playoff teams in NFL history have had 5 game losing streaks at some time during the regular season?

Chargers 0-4 traveled from LA and beat the Giants who for most of the game had all WR. so how is it advantage Giants
So, you're saying that our offense was actually not predictable for the first time in 2 years?
I would agree.
Quote: We played an unprepared Denver team. Plus we plYed with an emotional passion that I gave not seen this year.

Yeah, isn't that proprietary Giants?
I can't believe this is necessarily the start of a turn around.

Before a game. Denver can't game plan for a change like that, and probably had no chance to figure out what they were doing.

Sullivan is an NFL coach, which means that if he calls plays next week, he will absolutely run some of the same stuff he called today. I'm saying Seattle will have one game of film to figure Sullivan out with. Denver had no idea whatsoever. Its a very different situation, and unlikely to repeat the same benefits.
The Giant run defense, which had been non existent, rose up and stopped their running game cold, forcing Siemian to win the game....
For once, our coaches out coached the opposition...
With only one viable receiver, Denver did not take him seriously, after he did not catch a pass the week before...
The defense gave up over 400 yards, but had 4 turnovers and scored 7 points, and and had a huge goal line stand, to prevent 7 points....
And ST's contributed with a couple fg block/tips....
The Giant offense could run the ball for once....Pugh neutralized Miller....
This game plan was for the Denver Broncos....it was a game plan designed to minimize mistakes, and a game plan predicated on running the ball, by installing our best blockers in the run game, out there, which took Denver completely by surprise....With no WR threat, Denver did not adjust their defense to stop the run...out coached here...
It will have to be different plan for the Seahawks....
to throw . Early lead is important to our Defense ...
How many time did we go scoreless in we first quarter .
We struggle to score as it is by the time the offense gets some points on the board the defense is toast .
However, the lack of receivers is a huge obstacle to overcome. To beat good teams, they probably need to be +2 in turnovers
3 things:
1) Fluker may not be a great pass blocker, but MAN, I felt conifdent for the first time in YEARS that they could run behind someone and get a 3rd and short. That guy moves the pile.
2) Jones may not be great, but he's tough and scrappy and he doesn't get blown back into the pocket like Richburg. I was skeptical about him, but he has some grit. I think someone here compared him to Rich Seubert from an attitude standpoint.
3) maybe Flowers is coming into his own? And maybe all this time all he needed was some commitment to the run, where he can go knock the snot out of people instead of backing up on 80% of the plays? He looked charged up.
