NFT: Game 3 - ALCS - Yankees vs Astros from The Stadium - 8p FS1

B in ALB : 10/16/2017 5:31 pm
I'm gonna give this a whirl folks. Pitching matchup and lineups featured tonight in the Bronx. Looks like Headcase gets the nod over Ells.

CC Sabathia
14-5
3.69 ERA
9-5 in 20 postseason starts
7-2 with the Yankees

vs

Charlie Morton
14-7
3.62 ERA

Must-win for the Yanks tonight. I expect The Stadium to be absolutely rocking.

LGY.

I don't think anyone is wrong to be upset with that when there are two games in the next 45 hours.

That was literally the safest situation you could put him in, and he imploded. For his own sake if not the team's, it's not wise to use him any more.
Very vital to get some runs early tomorrow

Worst case scenario - Kahnle shits the bed, and after walking in a run gives up a grand slam to Altuve. Then you're up 3. You can wait another batter to rush him up, but at that point you can't rely on Kahnle any further either.

awesome night all around...Stadium was rocking early, and our boys gave us plenty to cheer about. CC now 10-0 after losses this season, including playoffs.

But damn, it sure got cold late...went down to about 50, and felt like 40...the club seats emptied out with an 8 run lead like an elementary school fire drill, but loved how the upper deck and bleachers stayed full and loud with the real fans throughout.

Lot of happy fans packed into the 4 train like sardines for the ride home...nothing better than a big Yankees playoff win at home. Let’s keep mashing tomorrow night!

It was really quite cold in the stadium not sure if the broadcast captured it. The Judge smash the wall catch was about 10 feet in front of me. It clearly got his juices going. Great win.
I know for some of you its probably rough getting home in time

So your options at that point are to play 'hey fuck it, we're up 8 runs', as if the Astros are the Bad News Bears at the plate, and that the heart of their order isn't coming up.

Sounds highly unlikely that a team could score 8 runs in an inning, but it's not impossible. We're playing two more games, but we needed that win now.

Fully agree.

Guess you have been following the strike zone on Judge with mid-calf called strikes as well as pitches outside and low. When the TV announcers are scratching their heads and saying he needs to start speaking up, then you know he is getting bad calls. John Smoltz in particular has been critical of Judge's strike zone.

By the way, how's deGrom's haircut?

No, he strikes out alot no doubt and always will. But I'd bet 10% of those were caused by a bad strike zone, either putting him in a bad count early or letting the pitcher off the hook when behind.

But basically we are talking playoffs. And when a HoF ex pitcher says he is getting jobbed - then you can bet he is getting jobbed.
Pitchers are purposely throwing balls low to try and get ahead, hoping to get a call. Changes the dynamic of the AB having an obvious ball called a strike.

Judge will always strike out a lot because it is hard to defend a strike zone that big. The pitchers don't need any additional help.

complexion of an at bat happens to every team in every game of the season. This isnt something new. And believe me, I’m all for bringing on the robots. Does Judge get screwed more because of how tall he is? Perhaps, I just don’t believe it’s as egregious as it’s made out to be. Not for Judge and not for every other Yankee batter that’s being “screwed.”

However, I’d argue that against Judge, opposing pitchers need all the help they can get lol.

Every batter gets a bad call once in a while, we know that. Judge seems to get a questionable to outright bad call each game and sometimes it seems each at bat (it isn't).
The point is that when announcers and HoF announcers say he needs to speak up, then it is more than just occasionally and not a figment of my/our imagination. When did you ever hear announcers say that about any batter?

Do you consider a dot that is touching the outline of the box as a ball or strike? I’d consider it a strike. I looked at some Astros batters and they got screwed also. Judge also sees a ton of pitches, which is another reason he’s so good. He works the count and sometimes pitchers get the call. Is Judge on the wrong side of that call more than he should be? Probably, but everyone is. Sure, Judge may get penalized more becaus of many variables (large zone due to height, working counts, prone to strike out a lot), I just don’t see it as so much worse than what we see every day. HP umpires suck, plain and simple. Sometimes they get fooled. And pitchers with better control normally get the benefit of calls.

I just looked at the charts for Altuve and Correa to compare. It's hard to compare Altuve because he sees so many fewer pitches, but it's not even close. That low strike call on Judge is just unfair. It's been happening all season long too. I'd like to know how many of those were the 3rd strike as well because it seems like most bad calls are the 3rd strike.
I'd consider starting Romine at catcher and letting Gary DH tonight.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 10/17/2017 10:57 am : link
Gray had a 1.45 ERA with Romine catching (SSS, I know) and he simply isn't comfortable with Gary catching him. It's not like Chase did anything last night from the DH spot to force his way into the lineup tonight.

Plus, Headley and Ellsbury are a combined 0-15 against McCullers with 6 strikeouts in their careers. Romine is 1-2 against him with a walk.

I barely even posted on this thread last night, let alone complained about the umpire. Nice try, though.

Still doesn't get away from my point. Butt-hurt Mets fan comes on a Yankee thread in which no one was even talking about the Mets, and comes on here to show just how ass-hurt he is about the Yankees playoff run. If it was the other way around, you'd be going off on the Yankee fan for doing that on a Mets thread.

Keep crying, bitch.

No crying from me...there’s plenty of that in every Yankee thread. You absolutely did cheer the umpire getting drilled in the face in the game against the Indians. But that’s okay. Selective memory and all.

You can make this a Mets/Yankees thing if you want. That’s cool. It’s like, your only play. For me, I’ll just enjoy reading all of the tears and excuses and how the Yankees never actually lose games...somebody had to screw them.
