I know we have this thread as often as the "which bourbons?" and "best pizza in NYC?" threads, but I'm that guy today.
Finished The Leftovers ... really loved that. Begrudgingly was talked into watching This Is Us. Caught up on that, and was surprisingly pleased. Sappy at times, but I like it.
I know the popular ones (Breaking Bad, Always Sunny, etc.) but any more recent ones, or "off-beat" things you're watching that you'd recommend?
Orange is the new Black
Westworld
When I'm done, I plan on checking out "American Vandal" on Netflix. It's a parody of Serial podcast.
Looks hilarious
American Vandal - ( New Window )
if you have Hulu watch Fargo, but only if you're a Coen Bros fan
Thank you! :)

Caught up on Fargo. Great stuff.
Stars Zach Galifik... whatever his name is from the Hangover and Louie Anderson.
Hilarious. Louie Anderson is oscar worthy (or whatever the TV show version of oscars is).
Ozark and I started Mindhunters last night.

SPOILER ALERT
Did you watch the show?
Alternate universe.
Yeah. I liked it a lot.
I end up watching the Flash and Supergirl with my older kids as well as something fun to do.
My wife loves This is Us - I haven't seen it yet, but heard it is excellent.
Hilarious. Louie Anderson is oscar worthy (or whatever the TV show version of oscars is).
I'm not sure I'd agree that it's hilarious, I find it to be much more bittersweet - funny at times, but the characters are all kind of sad sacks. But I concur completely about Louie Anderson. Not to get carried away, but it's almost a revelation to see a guy who's famous as a standup and game show host in this role (he plays Galifnakis' mother, and not at all in a Monty Python drag kind of way). In season 2 in particular, his role is stepped up, and I thought he was terrific.

It's hilarious when you realize Louie Anderson plays a better mother than most women, so no, not a dialog gut bust laugh a minute, but hilarious that he's the mother.
Plus the two sets of twins I also find humorous.
it's an off beat comedy.
Man in high castle I like on Amazon Prime, although my wife doesn't so I am pretty behind
Shameless
Veep
Bloodline
If you haven't watched The Wire yet do that first. We just started and are 3 seasons in. Everybody is right about that one.
Also, Sneaky Pete on Amazon wasn't too bad.
How is Mindhunter. Really interested in starting that. I believe that's the one were the detectives start criminally profiling people for the first time?
Highly recommend it
it has classic Star Trek retro vibe .. with comedy ..
fargo, the miniseries (each season is different and unrelated) is a great one to start also
The Deuce is great, made by the creator of The Wire. So if that show worked for you, give The Deuce a try.
A couple HBO mini-series this year that I enjoyed: The Night Of and Big Little Lies. Really entertaining, some big name actors, and it's just one season so there isn't much commitment involved.
And as a side note, Game of Thrones fans will love seeing so many familiar actors in different roles. Bronn playing the honest cop? Lol
Recently, have enjoyed several newer shows in mass quantities:
- Rick and Morty: Much funnier and more creative than I expected it to be going in - the episodes build off one another - funny, twisted, bizarre - one of the only shows on TV that can still get major belly laughs out of me.
- The Americans: About a mother/father Russian Spy team, show has sadly become very relevant politically, is a fantastic, very well acted, complex drama with many WOW moments.
- Orphan Black: Kept showing up in my feeds constantly - on recommendation from a friend, watched it. Opens with a girl seeing someone who looks exactly like her getting hit by a train. Storyline is complex, unfolds slowly. There are 5-6 seasons of it so far, so lots of content.
- Catastrophe: Hilarious, smart British sitcom about a mature one night stand on a business trip turning into a pregnancy and relationship.
- Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency: Bizarre, weird, very, very funny.
- The Path: Show about an upstate NY religious cult, starring Jesse Pinkman. I wasn't expecting to like it, but I do.
- Red Oaks: 1980's New Jersey Country Club - drama about a kid working summers in a Bergen County CC - very well done.
- Mad Dogs: Friends gathering for a reunion in Belize get caught up in drug war. Funny, suspenseful, well done.
- Mozart in the Jungle: Well done drama about NY Philharmonic... better than expected, makes me miss NYC.
Lastly, have just started on old Flight of the Conchords episodes and have been loving that - creative, weird, irrelevant, funny as hell.
Last Kingdom from BBC (Season 1 BBCA and 2 via iTunes).
One for Dec is Knightfall from History, and Vikings is usually pretty nuts.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency - Very quirky and funny show. One of my very favorites from last year. Based on the Douglas Adams books, but with original stories. It starts slow, and probably is best watched Binged, in my opinion. As it is utterly crazy, and continually changing with every single episode.
Graves - Comedy starring Nick Nolte as an ex-Reagan-esque type of U.S. President, and Sela Ward as his wife, and Skylar Astin as his brand new aide. Another very funny show that I rarely hear anyone mention.
People of Earth - Another oddball comedy about a group of supposed alien abductees (Experiencers), and their interactions with one another, as well as the interactions of the Aliens who abducted them. Not for everyone, but pretty damn funny as the episodes go by, and the character development increases.

From one detailed on-line review: "Halt and Catch Fire will be remembered as one of the best shows on television, and will hopefully gain in popularity and recognition as time marches on." (link, with lots of spoilers.)
I can't find a single critic who, in the aftermath of Saturday's 2-your finale, wasn't raving about how spectacularly good everything about it had become after a so-so first half year. I saw six reviews, including major sites like Variety, Vox and USA Today, who consider it one of the best shows ever made. The acting, writing, and directing were all superb. Each of the 5 major actors were world class. Sad that after averaging only around 1 million viewers its last year, no one will get an award, because success matters, and because too few people paid attention.

Caught up on Fargo. Great stuff.
I think Bojack Horseman might be one of the best all around shows on TV - funny, but with great depth and some very dramatic moments.
Also, hilarious visual animal puns

The underwater episode in Season 3 was incredible.
I still need to see season 4.
The Expanse (favorite)
The Colony
I’m halfway through, agreed Mindhunters has been great. Especially the actor playing Ed Kemper, great depiction and seems pretty accurate to what’s been written about him.
