NFC is bad this year, Giants only two games out of wildcard

yankeeslover : 10/17/2017 10:03 am
I am in no way saying or implying that we should even consider having any chance, because I don't think we do nor should even discuss a chance, but wow, how bad is the NFC this year, you would think starting out 0-5 that we would be much worse then 2 games out of the wildcard.
With all the talk of tanking the season for a the top pick, who knows what happens if we run off a 2-3 game win streak.. What the hell, 10 games left, im all in.
Nice thought

But the Giants have a 0-4 record in the NFC. The Giants extremely remote path to the playoff lies in taking the division.
Giants found the formula.

It took losing ALL the WR's, but the focus on creating a passing-centered OL failed epically.

Shifting Pugh to RT and bringing Fluker in - creating a running game where there was none before, is EXACTLY the shot in the arm this team needed.

Ball control works, even if it doesn't put points on the board.

They aren't out of it, and I'm hoping that this season turns into another insane chapter in the Manning fairy tale. Worst to first would be awesome.
Hard to be too far out of the wildcard when you've only played 6 games

Giants would need to go 8-0

in remaining NFC games. They can afford 2 AFC losses (maybe) and hope 9-7 squeaks in the 6 seed.

The life of an NFL fan. Lol
Giants could win the division at 9-7

I think its a better chance we win the division than get a wildcard.

IF:

1) we win all 4 of our remaining div games 3 are home games (@WAS,DAL,PHI,WAS)
2) PHI loses to WAS next week
3) WAS splits with DAL
4) PHI splits with DAL

+

5) outside of remaining div games we lose 2 and go 4-2, but still pick up one game on PHI or WAS on the other 6 games we can win the div at 9-7 (div rec tiebreaker over WAS or PHI or both)

example:

NYG:

SEA (L)
@LAR (W)
@SF (W)
KC (L)
@OAK (W)
@ARI (W)

PHI:

SF (W)
@DEN (L)
CHI (W)
@SEA (L)
@LAR (L)
OAK (W)

WAS:

@SEA (L)
MIN (W)
@NO (L)
@LAC (W)
ARI (W)
DEN (L)

Key div game right now is hoping WAS beats PHI at the linc next monday. next div game week 11 DAL@PHI
Season is far from

over if we can get to 4-5. Next 3 games all winnable. One at a time.
Looking at all the remaining schedules of NFC East teams,
Beezer : 10/17/2017 10:22 am : link
the way I see it, if everything we could possibly hope for were to break the Giants' way, here on out, I think the absolute best we could hope for (even if somewhat unimaginable) would be:

1. Eagles 10-6
2. Giants 8-8
3. Cowboys 6-10
4. Redskins 6-10

In a stretch, maybe the Giants get to 9-7, but even then, is that enough for a wild card? Uh, not likely.
Sunday night was 1 game...BUT...

It highlights the importance of one game in an NFL schedule and how fortunes can potentially change on a dime. There is lots of work to do, we all know this, but you can at least see a path forward at this point which isnt always the case at 1-5. Tough game with Seattle coming up, but win that one and head into the BYE week with Rams and 49ers next? Anything is possible.

As mentioned above, 6-7-8 loss teams will probably have a realistic shot at a wild card in the NFC.

But if we look in the mirror, there is reason to believe things can improve. Defensively, we pretty much have all our horses still. Vernon is banged up but could be back as soon as this week. We have seen signs of the defense playing up to their potential and maybe this DRC thing was what was needed to give them all a kick in the ass.

Offensively, there's no way you make up for the loss of Beckham's talent. Perhaps we can re-invent ourselves into a run first team? Hopefully Sullivan can work with Eli to find things that make him more comfortable. This OL configuration is the best we can field, and Flowers has been improving each week. We still have viable targets in Shepard (when he comes back), Engram, Adams, Lewis and even King who made some plays last year. Maybe Rudolph or Eagan can give us something. Darkwa, Gallman and Vereen provide a nice mix at RB.

Special teams even look better after bottoming out against Detroit, Philly and TB.

The main thing is, don't worry about playoffs right now. Try to put a few W's together and see where they are in a month.

No reason to believe things can't improve*

Figured I get blasted here. I'm usually the pessimist but if somehow we can fight our way to 500 then who the hell knows. It's not like we got dominated our first 5 games. 3 were lost in final minute. This team can play with anyone even without OBJ.
Forgive me, I still want believe in meaningful football in November. And hell, someday a 0-5 team will have to make playoffs, records meant to be broken.
waiting to see if a jeckall or a Hyde still rears its head with them

a lot of uncertainty
How about,
Doomster : 10/17/2017 10:29 am : link
we win our next game first, before all this useless speculation?

You can't count on others to lose, you have to control your own destiny....that starts with the very next game....

Can't play for draft pick. That's Browns territory and look where it gets them. Draft is crapshoot.
Have to hope the packers collapse without Rodgers
Knee of Theismann : 10/17/2017 10:37 am : link
Which is entirely possible.

Need to finish at least 8-2. Problem is I think all 8 of those wins probably need to come against our NFC opponents. That's asking a lot to happen.

But for instance, just by beating the Seahawks, we'll be just 1.5 games behind them WITH the tiebreaker. Plenty of football left. Only problem is we can't really afford to lose any more games.

Really wish we played in the AFC South.

Don't do this to yourselves.

Just hope for some good signs and things we can take into next season. Especially some clarity as far as the coaching situation goes.

they were due to play a team that just had an off day. It's really hard to go winless in the NFL. This team stinks, Seattle will expose that bigtime.
They're 2.5 games back from the current wildcard
eclipz928 : 10/17/2017 12:18 pm : link
and that's with zero tie breakers in their favor.

An 8-8 record is feasible, but it won't be enough to get in the playoffs.
Two games out isn't the issue
steve in ky : 10/17/2017 12:25 pm : link
and only tells half the story. The nine teams they would have to leap frog over is the larger hurdle.

Seattle isn't a great team themselves. They are good, but certai my not unbeatable.

they could've won just ONE more game.
I'd really like to see the Giants beat Seattle

I'd like to point out that it's 1 win and 5 losses right now
