Can we say that Vereen is done here?

EricJ : 10/17/2017 10:29 am
with our WRs all gone now and Darkwa and Gallman passing him on the depth chart he still is not getting into the game. It has to be his last year with the Giants especially when you factor in the cost.

What are your thoughts?
Well
ryanmkeane : 10/17/2017 10:32 am : link
technically this IS his last year, as he is a UFA at end of the season. I don't see them bringing him back. A waste of cap space at this point.
Part of the problem is,
Doomster : 10/17/2017 10:42 am : link
he is not used like the Pats did....

The Pats offense creates space in the 0-10 yard area, and Vereen would sneak out into an open area....

The Giants use Vereen differently, "running a pattern", and with the defense bunched up for short passes, he is not getting yac if he catches it....

And also, let's face it, throwing a short pass to him is not Eli's forte....he just does not hit guys in stride for extra yardage....that is something Brady excels at...

Still a chance that Vereen is used this year.....but also doubt he comes back next year....

He was still in the game

on 3rd and longs until the 4th quarter.
I saw him throw a couple of
Thunderstruck27 : 10/17/2017 10:47 am : link
big time blocks in that last game. But yeah, I doubt he'll be brought back after this season...if that is the OP's point. He won't be cut.
he should be trade bait
Enzo : 10/17/2017 10:50 am : link
maybe you get a 5th rounder for him.
I dont understand....
Reb8thVA : 10/17/2017 10:51 am : link
why they don't use him more as a receiving threat out of the backfield? IIRC, he had pretty good year catching the ball Mc Adoo's first year as OC.

Right now, I think Gallman is more effective out of the backfield once he gets the ball in his hands.
He is by far our best pass blocking RB
Mike in NY : 10/17/2017 10:57 am : link
Given Fluker and Flowers's limitations in that area, on obvious passing downs it is helpful. If Gallman can develop in that area that may push Vereen off the team, but until then Shane has a role
Next year - yes
SLIM_ : 10/17/2017 11:40 am : link
I'm holding out hope that Perkins (yes, perkins) can fill his role. Perkins looked like a solid back last year. Not sure what happened this year but hopefully he can return. Eric pointed out yesterday about not getting too enthused for Darkwa as he always manages to get hurt but we better hope that the trio of Darkwa/Gallman/Perkins can prove by the end of the year that they can do the job as we have other holes - unless we can draft a true stud back.
Yes, this will be his last year

How many times do you have to have it pointed out to you that Vereen had probably his best year as a receiving back in 2015, not with Brady?

Between the injuries and McAdoo turning to shit as an offensive mind as soon as he was promoted, he didn't repeat it, but the Giants didn't start out using him out of his best purposes and in no way was he held back by the QB change.
Vereen is a wasted roster spot
GeorgeAdams33 : 10/17/2017 12:39 pm : link
We should cut him and activate FB-Shane Smith

pretty spot on
Good

player. Think he has more of a role to play this year. He's exciting in the open field.
He is slow
mdthedream : 10/17/2017 2:12 pm : link
and can't make anyone miss. I have been saying let him go for two years. A total waste of money.
No.
prdave73 : 10/17/2017 2:37 pm : link
He is a good asset to this team. He just needs to be utilized better and more in the gameplan. This offense uninjured has so many weapons! They need a good Offensive coordinator to really get the best out of them. Imagine if the Pats had all our offensive weapons? Damn.
He is better than BJ Thomas
Vanzetti : 10/17/2017 6:45 pm : link

Gallman seems like a do-it-all back
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/17/2017 6:55 pm : link
I want him to be on the field more. Any time Vereen is out there, you kinda know what's coming.
Vereen can run, block and catch
mattnyg05 : 10/17/2017 7:15 pm : link
Also not sure why he isn’t used more. Underrated as a runner. They must know something we don’t, maybe they just don’t feel he’s durable, or ball security issues, but he’s a much much better player than he’s being given credit for on this thread.

At this point ...
Beer Man : 10/17/2017 9:02 pm : link
He's probably better at running routes and a little more sure-handed than the three younger backs. But he hasn't done enough for the team to consider bringing back on a new contract.

Injured too often and does too little when healthy
IF Vereen comes back..
EricJ : 10/17/2017 9:17 pm : link
it will be with a salary cut. No way we can pay him the same salary. Especially if we are looking at having to sign some players on the OL
As far as his tenure as a Giant Vereen isn't a 'has been'...
Torrag : 10/17/2017 11:56 pm : link
...he's a never was. It just never came together here for him and developed into a bad signing and a waste of cap space and opportunity to develop young talent.
