NFT: Game 4 - ALCS - Yankees vs Astros from The Stadium - 5p FS1

B in ALB : 10/17/2017 1:42 pm
Here we go ladies. Huge game this afternoon. Absolutely huge. Win and it's all tied up. Lose and the Yankees are playing the elimination game.

Great call by Mr. Shock with the Romine insertion. He'll be behind the dish for Gray and Sanchez will DH. I like it. Here's the pitching matchup - no lineup out for Houston yet - but it's time to get it the fuck on.

Time to put up or GTFO...So keep the luck going and dominate these guys again.

Big game for Sonny!
I love Sanchez at DH today
DennyInDenville : 10/17/2017 1:52 pm : link
1.) Sonny throws in the dirt a ton
2.) we haven't had any DH production anyway
3.) Sonny throws in the dirt a ton
I love 2 straight nights of 5 pm starts

especially as I’m working from home and can be parked on my couch.

No excuses. This team can take down the Astros. Let’s get it on boys. In Sonny (and B) we trust!
McCullers
BocaGiants91 : 10/17/2017 2:06 pm : link
Has some nasty stuff but might not get out of the 4th with how many pitches he generally throws, this Astros bullpen is bad outside of Devenski and Giles, and I don’t think Giles is great shakes either.
McCullers has a brutal curve.
BigBlue2112 : 10/17/2017 2:11 pm : link
Worries me with this lineup. Love the Romine move with Sonny pitching. Just hope that Houston doesn't run all over him.
haha bravo to the Yanks social media staff!

excellent job throwing some massive burn rebuttal at the BoSux:

no day off in the Bronx today - ( New Window )
McCullers definitely has good stuff
shockeyisthebest8056 : 10/17/2017 2:21 pm : link
and has excellent numbers against most of the guys in the lineup, but he's been injured and hasn't had even a "good" start against anyone since late June.
yea was at the game he pitched vs. us in the Bronx in May
Stu11 : 10/17/2017 2:26 pm : link
he owned us that night. We hit him better the game in Houston. He's such a wildcard not having started in awhile or pitched all that well in the 2nd half. he does have good stuff when on, though he is much better at home than on the road despite his good effort at the stadium this year.
We got this
dune69 : 10/17/2017 2:33 pm : link
Houston will play better but so will we.

Going back to Houston all tied up.

That's not possible.
Not possible to go back tied.

someone has to win tomorrow
Sanchez is overdue for a big game
averagejoe : 10/17/2017 2:44 pm : link
Two HR's today and 5 RBI in Yanks win. In the baby bomber universe Bird, Judge, and Sanchez take turns being the hero.
pitching has been great, and Sanchez was outstanding blocking Tanaka's
Victor in CT : 10/17/2017 2:45 pm : link
splitters. Not buying that Romine makes Gray or anybody else better. And Sanchez has a better arm and is more athletic.

And while it might be nice to give Sanchez a break in July, they just had an off day in a playoff series. And what if Romine gets hurt? Then Sanchez has to go in and they lose the DH. Don't like this.

Thank was great!
I honestly think the Yanks will have a hard time scoring runs today.
BigBlue2112 : 10/17/2017 2:52 pm : link
(Hopefully I'm wrong). With McCullers curve and then if he gets pulled, Peacock's slider, this lineup is not built to hit junk.

"His slider is actually his primary pitch now. He throws the low-80s slider nearly 40 percent of the time. He’s cut down significantly on his four-seam fastball usage (52.6 to 27.2 percent) and utilized his sinker more (24 percent). He’ll occasionally use his curveball and changeup, but he’s basically a fastball-slider pitcher.

Thanks to the slider, he’s become a significant strikeout pitcher. He was eighth among pitchers with at least 100 innings in strikeout rate with a 29.5 percent mark. The guy ahead of him? Clayton Kershaw. The guy behind him? Luis Severino.
"
Brad Peacock may be Astros’ secret weapon in Game Four - ( New Window )

Romine was to get hurt and Sanchez had to catch, would our pitchers be any worse than the production we have been getting out of the DH spot?

in the second half of the season

First 15 starts (healthy): 2.69 ERA (2.72 FIP), 29.1 K%, 7.1 BB%, 63.9 GB%

Last 7 starts (dealing with back trouble): 8.53 ERA (4.41 FIP), 18.4 K%, 9.5 BB%, 56.1 GB%

Let's hope that back is acting up

Even if McCullers Pitches Well...
Jim in Tampa : 10/17/2017 3:35 pm : link
He always throws a LOT of pitches.

That means the Yanks should be into their Houston bullpen by the 5th inning at the latest.

Should be LCS AND WS
I really hope Romine makes a difference with Gray.

He scares me as a SP. Just get us to the 6th with either a lead or keeping it tight.

In the off-chance that Romine gets hurt, Girardi will use the likes of Headley, Ellsbury, and Holliday as pinch-hitters and treat it like a National League game. The odds that Romine gets hurt, and gets hurt early such that the 9-hole batter has to be occupied by a pitcher for multiple attempts is very low.

Yankees
Matt in SGS : 10/17/2017 4:16 pm : link
will score about 8+ runs again today. The question is, what do they get from Gray. I have a bad feeling Gray is the reincarnation of the Yankees postseason version of Kenny Rogers. This one has slugfest written all over it. At the end of the day, I have no faith the Astros pen will hold the Yankees down.
Here the burn is, for those who haven't clicked the link...

Lose the DH? Lulz. Who would notice? We could put Chapman up there to hit and he wouldn't perform any worse than our DHs have this postseason
It's up to Sonny now
Greg from LI : 10/17/2017 4:48 pm : link
He had his personal catcher now - needs to prove that it was the right call. Go out there and keep the great pitching going.
get Romine for better defensively catching
micky : 10/17/2017 4:51 pm : link
but lose a bat in a lineup that until last night been anemic.

Need Gray to get 6 and not be a batting practice..time for him to show up better
Romine
JINTin Adirondacks : 10/17/2017 5:02 pm : link
is good for a double today.
backup catchers
GentleGiant : 10/17/2017 5:05 pm : link
have a long history of getting big playoff hits. Let's not forget that without Romine's hot first couple of months the Yankees probably have a hard time making the playoffs. He deserves his shot as much as Headley.
Anybody drinking yet?

I have read that pitching a baseball is about the most unnatural boxy movement in sports.
Gosh darn it, Sonny
