“To beat these men, you have to run at them. Check that. You have to run at everyone but Miller. One-cut running, right up the gut. And that just what the Giants did, with their shuffled and reshuffled offensive line...” Link - ( New Window )
They actually looked really good on those blocks! Jones got nice movement in the middle. Flowers passing off a defender and Fluker coming over with a pancake. Can they maintain that level of play?
it all begins in the middle on those runs. Jones is able to get off the ball without getting pushback. If Jones is pushbacked, then Fluker doesn't get straight down the line for the trap. I'm not confident the success of that play happens with Weston in the lineup. The final example in the article most likely is a failure as Weston is not moving Peko off the line.
It will be interesting if Weston returns to the starting lineup when he clears the protocol. He likely will, but I suspect that Jones is the better player now.
You have to score 16 points? With 3 of those being Â
...when one considers that Denver came in with the best defense against the run, and they were at home on prime time after a BYE week(with the Chiefs losing a few hours before). Couple all that with the fact the Giants were missing their starting 3 WRs, (and defenses know their routes)...and they had NO running game whatsoever up to that point. Couple that with an OL that was the worse the NFL has seen in years.
This game was not just an upset. It was so much more than that. It may be the upset of the 2017 regular season, no matter how the rest of the season plays out.
I agee that the LB play by Denver was really poor. Â
That last clip when we were on the goal line, the MLB should have had Darkwa for a safety but instead of filling the hole off of Jones' ass he inexplicably ran into Jerry creating a hole for Darkwa.
Tremendous oversimplification of a game that was more of Â

On first glance, yes, it looks like that.
Watch it repeatedly though, and you realize that what the MLB is trying to do is to shove John Jerry backwards. Not a bad strategy against what is supposed to be the worst rushing team in the league. No way the Giants win a trench fight, the name of the game is shove the Giant O-line into the end zone and their shitty 3rd string RB falls for a safety. He's licking his chops. He's presuming that the undersized BACKUP CENTER isn't about to nuke Domato Peko, is he?
The hole really opens and Darkwa makes his cut AFTER that MLB committed.
That was as even an offensive performance as we've had in 2 years, without our best player or even a single starting WR against a top defense on the road.
It was a solid effort on the ground and taking what the defense gave through the air.
No one lit the world on fire but it was certainly something to build on.
the blueprint, in a nutshell, is to run @ DEN as they are best at defeating the zone runs. As said in the article - one cut and go. The MLB looking bad on the 47 yd run is due to Darkwa's subtle move indicating he was following the pulling Fluker, who the MLB was clearly tracking. He thought he needed to get outside of Flowers but was wrong.
Again, on the goal line, Darkwa's briefest hesitation caused the MLB to take Jerry head-on, and for all the deserved credit Fluker's pancake got earlier, Jones' block clearing out the NT was just as impressive. Jones clearly established the leverage needed to drive the NT clear of the LOS. For comparison, see this Baldy tweet of how Snacks can't be moved. (They don't budge)
Weston back in the lineup with this current configuration. But after seeing that GIF of Jones pushing Peko out of the way at the goalline, I am not sure Weston would be able to do that. Going to be interesting to see if Jones gets another week as a starter with the Bye coming up after this Sunday.

Yes, if anything Jones's performance is making me think we shouldn't be worried about losing Richburg to FA. I've been concerned about how we rebuild the line, and Jones is giving me some confidence that the C position will be okay regardless of how the Giants manage WR's contract.

Didn't think they would know
that with the awful offense,QBs they have on the other side of the ball for them.

How many times have recently have we seen a Giants OL miss those kinds of blocks?
Also on that play, Fluker absolutely destroys his man.
It's like Sy noted all through camp, when Fluker locks on, it's over.
