I don't think I've started a hockey thread in like 2 years.
But, desperate times call for desperate measures.
NYR have struggled mightily against the Styx lately. Pretty sure we lost every game against them last year sans the opener. It's time to flip the fuckin' script.
Sounds like Hank will be back in net and Mac should be good to go. Kampfer, Holden, Carey, Pavelec looking like the scratches.
We need 2 fucking points.

(Go fuck yourself, Fish)
the Canadiens and Rangers have 6 points between them with matching 1 - 5 - 1 records.
I don't understand why this has been such a problem. It seems like one or the other literally happens every single game.
I really don't see it. He's still young and obviously can get better - but there was so much hoopla surrounding his availability when he was a FA and after watching him play a season+, I'm not really sure why.
He's not a bad player he's just not a dynamic player like Buchnevich, who for some goddamn reason AV puts on the 4th line. Vesey and/or fast are exactly the player that should be put on the 4th line. Not Buchnevich.
In summary... Fuck our coach.

I think Nash has looked great but can't score for shit. It's amazing how unlucky he is. Maybe it's because he's an over-the-hill 33 year old like our thread starter.
I think he's a solid bottom 6 player which is fine. I see him as another Jesper Fast. He's an ideal bottom 6 guy that won't look silly if you have to bump him up to the top 6 for a while.
Players of his ilk aren't exactly difficult to find in this league.
He's not finesse enough to be a goal scorer in the NHL without the grit.
He has the size (and I believe tenacity) to do it, but those players don't develop in a season.
Patience is what you need with Vesey.
in 2011 I watched Vesey play for the South Shore Kings in Foxborough, MA (my daughter was just starting out with the Spitfires and they practiced after), he was by a longshot the best player on the ice and it takes players a long time to realize as they progress levels they're not the most skilled anymore.
Even at Harvard he was one of the better skilled ECAC players, but in the NHL he's a 3rd line player, and he can be a good one, but it's a very different approach from being the best player.
He's not the first and won't be the last and he may not adjust to it at all, but I think he will. and that doesn't mean he will have no offensive game, it just means he'll need to rely somewhat on his size, strength, and toughness to score goals instead of purely on skating, stick handling and shooting.
I'm interested in seeing how he does.
Nope. He's a Viktor Stalberg type.

Arc, exactly. The expectations were definitely much higher for him. He came out like a bat outta hell and sort of disappeared the second half of the season. He has 0 points so far this season, and its not like he is creating opportunities. Definitely thought in year 2, he would have made more progress. I know it's early, but you want to something...
He is a big kid and should start to use that to his advantage.
But, as Brandy famously said in 1999...
Almost doesn't count.
I think Nash has looked great but can't score for shit. It's amazing how unlucky he is.
Fuck that. We've been saying this for 4 years now - yet here we sit, the guy misses (or fails to finish on) empty nets in game 2 in Ottawa or game 5 in LA... its long enough now where its not bad luck anymore. I respect Nash's two way game and seems to be one of the only responsible (top 6) two way forwards we have left on this roster.... but he's cemented into the Hall of Not Good Enough at this point.
Fuck this Rangers team. they suck. Prove me wrong, dickheads.

Was Vesey really that big a deal - or did we hype it up as Rangers fans? I know Buffalo fans were upset (fuck them - they ripped off Nashville for him, NSH is the one with a beef) and i know Hannah Storm and some ESPN rangers fans got involved, which fueled a little more coverage ... but was the hype and the 'wining and dining' really much more than what NJ did with Will Butcher or Colorado with Kerfoot?

Hard to argue, and I'm likely a bigger fan of Nash than most.
Given what the player turned out to be so far, the hype level really didn't match at all.
Fair to say he has not met the hype.
Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.
I also remember hourly twitter updates on kerfoot this summer too. Butcher was a decent hype event too (and the guy has 9 assists in 6 games)
Anyway if our goalie and D keep blowing games in empty net situations, from behind the net no less, who fuckkmg cares - the whole locker rooms gotta go

Who was saying that when Nash scored 42 in 14-15? He isn't going to be shooting 3.4% for the year.
14-24-38 in 73g
Anyway, allow me to wallow in my fucking misery please - not one Goddamn pro team out of 4 is competitive the last 12 months. Not one.
But I see your point.
It's tough for any captain of the Canadiens, even tougher for an American captain of the Canadiens, and just brutal on the guy when they're mired in a personal slump and a the team is losing. I rarely feel bad for athletes, I feel bad for Max.
Pacioretty is younger than Nash, and from New Canaan.
Costs the Habs more this year, but frees up space next year for Tavares. And Pacioretty has a team friendly cap number for next year.
Patches has no clauses, Nash has a NMC/Modified NTC.
Paying 3 guys (Price, Tavares and Weber) 32.5 million would be more than Chicago does with their big 3 (28 million) and Pittsburgh with theirs (25 million). It can't be said enough by the way - Sydney Crosby is a fucking doosh for playing for
8.7 million a year. What the FUCK does he owe Pittsburgh? He's not even American.
but i respect PJ's continued attempts to steer conversations about NY teams towards his Canadiens.
take Pacioretty away and they get over $20M in space with 16 contracts.
They'd need to rely on youth for much of it - Juulsen, Scherbak, Lernout, etc. guys on the cusp and already under contract for low $$$
Then trade Montoya and bring up Lindgren.
then it's like 4 contracts/spots they'd need to add for $17M or so if you figure 650k each of the young guys. most of it is Tavares then a few $1M contracts.
I think they can do it.
Plus they'll probably trade Galchenyuk, he's on the hook for almost $5M each of the next two seasons.
I just think the two players, Nash and Pacioretty could benefit from a change of scenery.

Look I am sure that if Tavares shows interest, they will try to free up space for him. It would likely take two $4-5 mil contracts leaving though to free up the necessary space - Pacioretty for sure, and probably Galchenyuk.
If its only MaxPac, they'd have 21 mil to sign 7 guys NEXT year (Froese i didnt count as he hasnt played this year and I've never heard of him), or about 8 mil after Tavares on 6 guys. But the real issues kick in the following year where right now you'd have 62 million earmarked to just 10-11 players. They'd have only ~15 million to spend on half the roster.
Who knows... but i think someone like Duchene is a better fit for what your team is trying to do. If the plan was to bring in Tavares, then you wouldnt have thrown all the money at your defense that you have in recent years, and wouldnt have made the Drouin trade (which i thought was a good trade - but will cost you $5+ mil a year against the cap next 3-4 years)
MTL cap situation 2018-2019 - ( New Window )
A lot of contracts are pointing to teams expecting it.
Instead, we get some show about the Bills draft and high School football. Pretty awesome stuff.
So we're treated to the mouthbreathing Islanders announcers Goring and the other idiot, despite the game being at MSG. Makes total sense.
What a fuckin joke.

Burke is actually a pretty good play by play guy but carry on
Gotta get those pads fluffed a bit maybe.
Or just not suck.

Yeah he's amazing. I'd totally rather hear him than Sammy.
Carry on.
