yupbjac27 : 11/7/2017 12:13 pm
Heading to Ireland next fall (early) and doing some early research - will be in Dublin and Galway for majority of the trip. Looking for some on must go places for a couple rounds while over there with my father. Anyone have any prior experience with same? Suggestions? Thanks in advance and will delete once I get a feel for past experiences

this past summer. I just sent him an e-mail. If/when he responds, I'll post his advice. (Sadly, I do not have input, personally. I wish I did. Ah, maybe someday. lol)

Never played golf over there, but have a fun time. Dublin & Galway both rock, though I prefer Galway more. Have a Guinness for me.
Played golf in Ireland about 10 years ago

with my HS Golf Team. We were around Dublin and then headed South and then wrapped around to bottom of the Isle to the West. Played Portmarnock Golf Club (awesome seaside links), Portmornock Hotel Links, Old Head (Unreal), Waterville, Ballybunion and a couple others.
Portmarnock Golf Club was really, really nice and a lot of fun - also the first course we played. It is fairly close to Dublin (less than an hour) and highly recommended. The Portmarnock Hotel is also a fun course.
Good luck and enjoy.

Here's what my friend at work offered. Hope it's helpful:

Galway is not far from Lahinch (along with Ballybunion), the greatest course I’ve ever played. Very pricey, but for a golfer definitely worth it. If they don’t want to pay much, there is a course south of Galway called Spanish Point (not far from Lahinch) - it is a 9-hole course, but is quirky and odd and quite challenging ... perfectly Irish in all respects.

Not familiar with many Dublin area courses. They played the Ryder Cup a few years ago at the K-Club outside of Dublin, but that’s an inland course. In Ireland you must play the links courses!
Thanks for all the early help guys! Will leave on for a bit longer
