Heading to Ireland next fall (early) and doing some early research - will be in Dublin and Galway for majority of the trip. Looking for some on must go places for a couple rounds while over there with my father. Anyone have any prior experience with same? Suggestions? Thanks in advance and will delete once I get a feel for past experiences
Portmarnock Golf Club was really, really nice and a lot of fun - also the first course we played. It is fairly close to Dublin (less than an hour) and highly recommended. The Portmarnock Hotel is also a fun course.
Good luck and enjoy.
Galway is not far from Lahinch (along with Ballybunion), the greatest course I’ve ever played. Very pricey, but for a golfer definitely worth it. If they don’t want to pay much, there is a course south of Galway called Spanish Point (not far from Lahinch) - it is a 9-hole course, but is quirky and odd and quite challenging ... perfectly Irish in all respects.
Not familiar with many Dublin area courses. They played the Ryder Cup a few years ago at the K-Club outside of Dublin, but that’s an inland course. In Ireland you must play the links courses!
