Spags

Painless62 : 11/7/2017 1:42 pm
Why is he so under the radar? His side of the ball stinks, is playing WAY below their pay grade and also seem to be the discipline problems. By the time this year is done he may very well have presided over the 3 worst defenses in history. He is easily replaceable as well. If they clean house, which they better, he needs to go as well.
I think the discipline

problems may actually be more Spags vs McAdoo than anything else. I suspect the defense, Spags inlcuded, didn't like basically having to carry any chance of winning from the get go. I also don't think some of these players took too kindly to hearing how they need to get the opposition off the field quicker when their own offense is pulling less than a minute 3 and outs and putting them right back out there.

Matt in SGS said it best, the first two games really set the stage for the debacle in Philly. Blame the Defense all you want there but if our offense could even remotely take care of the ball and run at all we would have won that game and maybe the Detroit game too. From there injuries mounted and now a mutiny of sorts is happening...
needs to go

you dont give up 50+ yards TD on a 3rd and 33 i know they missing some players but even so no excuse for that the defence has been terrible all year giving up big plays and blowing assignments in coverage and with the offence on its knees big trouble
Carl banks said we are using so much more zone this year
jlukes : 11/7/2017 2:19 pm : link
when compared to last year. You gotta wonder why the hell Spags would do that
all the defensive players are making business decisions
Nitro : 11/7/2017 2:21 pm : link
about the longevity of their careers, and I can't say I blame them. This is a lost season, and it makes no season to pick up a debilitating injury in meaningless games. For every guy that is viewed as slacking or quitting, think about it from their perspective. What do they have to gain by putting in 100% this year?
The single most overrated DC in history
HomerJones45 : 11/7/2017 2:27 pm : link
got by last year with a schedule full of rookie qb;s. The rookies aren't rookies any more and have carved his defense up like your Thanksgiving turkey.
Hope they keep it up
Painless62 : 11/7/2017 2:27 pm : link
For the sake of the future I hope they keep making business decisions. Why not go for it all and try for the #1 pick? Unfortunately SF and Cleveland are giving us a run for our money
I agree about Spags

He deserves some serious criticism.

Also feel the same about Marc Ross and our entire scouting team. While Jerry Reese's time has come, he's not alone in the creation of this shitty roster and our horrific track record of drafting players who couldn't make the cut on a lousy CFL team.
He certainly deserves his share of the criticism.

But at this point, it is like pointing out the different parts of a rotting fish. The whole thing stinks at this point.
He's a bit of a one-trick pony.
Section331 : 11/7/2017 3:03 pm : link
He relies on getting pressure from his front 4, and when he can't, his defenses struggle badly.

A lot of the defense's struggles fall at Reese's feet though. Signing OV and resigning JPP to enormous contracts when their skills duplicate rather than complement each other. Both are good all-around DE's - decent but not elite pass rushers, and good against the run - leaving the front 7 without anyone who can consistently create pressure.
Very bad DC, historically bad for different teams

He needs to be the first to go.

Guy who everybody felt had done a great job last year it’s the players not the coaches on the field how much money are they making even after an effort like last week?

know that the responsibility starts from the top. Thinking outside the box, what is the defensive back field coach doing. What are his duties during the week. I'm not blaming him, I'm just saying what input do the position coaches have in all this.

Spags needs to go too

He's not old but he hasn't evolved with the new NFL. Soft zones are like a give up in this NFL for even a decent QB. On one of the Rams TD's in the red zone the Giants rushed 3 and had JPP chip the TE. Are you serious?
I'm so sick of the Spags apologists here. He STINKS.
Victor in CT : 11/7/2017 4:32 pm : link
His unit STINKS.
a very likeable person
fame56 : 11/7/2017 5:22 pm : link
but, really was just a product of jim johnson's system with the eagles that everyone thought could lead a similar type defense

did well with us for a couple of years before being exposed with the rams and saints

needs a prolific pass rush to be successful, which they had when he was with philadelphia

his time is done here, too, and its questionable if he gets another gig somewhere given his track record

very likeable and personable..wish him the best
There sure seems like there is something going on between Spags
PatersonPlank : 11/7/2017 9:29 pm : link
and BigMac. Mac is always the one taking the point on suspending Spags players. Where is Spags on this? Not a peep. Is it he disagrees with Mac? You'd figure they would have a unified front.

The 43 defense bring in linebackers and a 34 defensive coach
