NFT: Yankee home games to start @6;35 in april

mitch300 : 11/9/2017 6:21 pm
The Monday-Thursday games (6) will start at 6:35. It's good for the younger kids a chance to maybe see a whole game.
I like it...

living out west, I like when the games start a little earlier. If I miss the start I can ffwd through the commercials and get caught back up. Don't have to stay up so late to finish a game, and get to see the whole game in a shorter period of time.

Don't know how some of you do it on the east coast - games go way too late already for my schedule.
Interesting idea

Will hurt concessions revenue as fans will show up like dodgers fans now in the 3rd and 4th innings -- but more fans will stay now for the higher leverage innings.

They really need to speed these games up though -- bottom line. I know the 'get off my lawn' crowd loves the 5 hour 9 inning playoff game and the 3.5 hour regular season game because it's relaxing or something and it's tradition .... but it's boring and I can't stay up and it needs to be fixed with changes a hell of a lot more relevant than intentional walks.

Baseball became popular in the USA way back when because it was a fast-played game, as opposed to slow games like cricket. Lots of balls in play, lots of action. It was basically a two-hour game. Then it became a three-hour game. Now it's often a four-hour game. It never would have caught on at this pace.

I love baseball but it's a pretty boring game when it's all walks, strikeouts and home runs, with numerous long breaks for pitching changes.
Too many

Visits to the mound.

Should only limit one visit per inning.

Use hand signals.

since when is a 3 1/2 hour reg season game and a 5+ hour playoff game "traditional"? Until the 1990s, 2 1/2 hrs was the norm. Watch the '78 Red Sox-Yankees playoff game sometime. Guidry and Torres didn't hold the ball more than 5 or 6 seconds and they weer in the windup. Batters stayed in the box between pitches. No bullshit walking around between pitches. 1 pitching change, not 6.

Now get off my lawn! :-)

Agree with you here. Not many starters go the distance anymore and often times one or two setup men are used to get to a closer. Even if you limit mound visits to pitching changes it won’t help that much. Relievers still trot to the mound and take their warmups etc.

Bring back the bullpen cars!
Love the idea.

I hope this decision was made for the fan experience rather than for financial reasons like every other decision in sports. If so, it'd probably be the first time ever.

It's not tradition. The "golden age" of baseball saw approx. 2 hour games max. It's the TV deals that have caused the primary slowdown in the game.
