What is going on with this kid? After having a tough few games in his rookie seasons, he turned it around and was on his way to being a top flight corner. This season he’s been a train wreck. He doesn’t seem to locate the ball in the air, he has mental lapses, and his toughness have been questioned. Add to concerns to off field locker room behaviors, and he is looking like a wasted Top 10 pick. Even our own respected talent evaluator Sy’56 is saying he isn’t a winning player and should be traded or release.
I honestly think he’s having a real hard time adjusting to a zone defense that Spagnuolo has preferred this season. He’s thinking way too much and not playing. He reminds of Corey Webster in his first few seasons here. Webster was a man to man corner, who was almost run out of town due to poor early showings in zone coverage. Once a man to man scheme was implemented by Spagnuolo in his first go around as D Coordinator he was able to really shine. Hopefully we see growth in Apple, like we did in Webster.
He played pretty well in a man to man scheme last season.

Well, sometimes you have to play zone on some plays.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant.
"he has mental lapses, and his toughness have been questioned."
Happens when you don't care anymore. The season is over for a lot of these guys. I know they are professionals and getting paid to play but, they are also human.
I really think he will be fine down the road. But it speaks to the lack of leadership on this team that his peers have not curbed this behavior
I doubt he is a bust. He looks great at times and either lost or indifferent at others. Let's see what happens with a new coach. I think immature is probably correct.
As for Flowers - he has been playing better because the change in technique is starting to overcome his flawed technique from college. This should have been done two years ago, but another very young draftee that either would not listen or "knew better."
I don't think he is a bust .... a new HC at the reigns could change everything very quickly.
Ridiculous. Got caught with his pants down? Wtf? So you honestly think that Reese only had two guys left on his board and just threw a dart at the board when those two players got taken?
For crying out loud, people. Use your heads.
There seems to be a pretty valid reason for that
Annie Apple to undergo brain surgery - ( New Window )
That's IF his confidence isn't destroyed by getting his ass kicked.
And he appears to have battled through it and is steadying the ship.
Watching guys work through that is what sports is all about, as much as the winning. For me at least. Good for Flowers - proving to be a mentally tough SOB that could serve him well.

I'm surprised the mom hasn't been much more vocal - I figured if things got ugly like this, she'd be going off the rails.

Yeah, I had no idea about this until today - I feel bad even bringing it up now. Hopefully she recovers and pulls through it.

QB, CB and LT are tough positions to put a "kid" into. Could be 20 is too young at those skilled positions. I don't think Apple's confidence will be destroyed. He has ability and moxie, but needs to grow up a bit.

Also, could happen when your Mom is sick and needs Brain surgery next week .... there is that.
Sorry Eli - I certainly jumped to conclusions to fast (as usual).
It's not like Tunsil is setting the world on fire either.

I also think he is one of the 'rats' in the locker room.
When they mentioned anonymous quotes, I think Apple was
one of the rats. My guess is either Jenkins or DRC
is the other rat, pretty obvious from what has been going down in the past month around here, it is coming from the secondary.
Yep, that would add to Apple's immaturity.
I am filing this under, I don't know it for a fact,
but I believe to be true department...
lol Good thing his mom is there to look after his adult activities.

probably a good bump on TOP over getting burned in 15 secs to the tune of 7pts.

Agreed.
Eli has to get over his college accomplishments and his mama's accolades, and start listening to professional coaches.
Even if what you infer is correct (and I don't agree) the NYG can't afford to cut ties with every potential problem.
Get a few good players and success will cure a lot of ills.
Apple should be given more time, like most CBs, to mature.
And certainly don't overestimate our strong coaching in his slow development...

You wouldn't know it by watching the Dolphins play. Their offense is as horrible as ours.
