We usually do one of these every year. We will see how long this one lasts.

Very exciting year so far. This is a strong rookie class.
Around the league
LawrenceTaylor56 : 11/10/2017 2:14 am : link
-OK3 dropped their 4th straight last night, this time to the Nuggets.

-De'Aaron Fox hit a game winner against Philly

-Lonzo Ball has the second worst FG pct through 12 games in the shot clock era

-Cleveland lost their 7th game (5-7) to the Rockets last night
It's a new world order
Vanzetti : 11/10/2017 2:49 am : link
You gotta be able to shoot threes--even if you are a big man.

Certainly needs to improve that part of his game, but he nearly had triple double tonight, so at least he's filling up the stat sheet elsewhere. Still can't believe he's related to his dad. Personalities seem polar opposites.

Unrelated, but I've never seen you post at all on BBI. Saw the date you registered. You De'Aaron Fox' dad? lol
I think OKC is a pretty good science experiment
Keith : 11/10/2017 8:56 am : link
on advanced stats vs chemistry. It's pretty ugly down there. First off, Westbrook has been terrible. He's shooting like 50% from the line which is nuts. Secondly, he's way too good to share the ball so much.
Ball is filling up stat sheets?
KWALL2 : 11/10/2017 9:56 am : link
Sure he is. With terrible stats.

He's a good passer. It ends there.

Right now, he's awful. He can't finish in the lane and can't get his shot off. It will only get worse for him as opponents learn how to exploit the limitations.
With Ball
nygiants16 : 11/10/2017 10:01 am : link
evwryone said he was not going to break down a defense and his mid range was awful, so i do not know why this is surprising anyone
I only saw him when they played the Celts the other day
Bill L : 11/10/2017 10:03 am : link
he had spurts where he looked pretty good. You have to say that there is potential there. To be honest, though, there looked lie potential but didn't see much "special" or "generational". He's not Magic. I heard some people say that he didn't fall to Danny. But Danny never would have taken him in the first place. And, at least based on an extremely small sample, I'm glad that Danny took who he took (that goes wrt to Fulz and Jackson as well).
The funny thing is they traded russell
nygiants16 : 11/10/2017 10:08 am : link
russell and ball have the same deficiencies
Big Talent
Csonka : 11/10/2017 10:13 am : link
The depth of incredibly talented young big guys in the league today is incredible. Fun to watch.

Giannis
Porzingis
A Davis
Towns
Cousins
Embiid
Simmons
Jokic
etc

The other day I was watching a documentary on Simmons
Keith : 11/10/2017 10:19 am : link
when he was in college. 3 things stood out to me:

1. He's insanely gifted(not news to anyone)
2. He hates working. He's not one of those guys thats internally driven, like Lebron. It seemed like work to him.
3. He eats very poorly. He does not view food as fuel.

In pro sports, to continue playing at a high level and progressing as a player, you need to be driven and mature. I wonder if he will grow up and get it because he has the physical tools to be one of the best.
With Ball
KWALL2 : 11/10/2017 10:56 am : link
it isn't about the lack of range. Sure he's bricking 3s but he's got much bigger problems. He can't finish in the lane and he can't create any type of shot for himself at any place on the court.

He has no move to score. None. He can't even come off a screen and hit a short jumper. And forget about going right and shooting. He can't do it. There are so many holes I'm amazed this guy was drafted this high. He has to make massive changes to be a good NBA player. Long way to go.

it is why predraft combined with his annoying father i wanted nothing to do with him..

it amazed me how many scouts just ignores all of hia deficiences, dude can shoot and pass and that is it...

he is a horrible defender, not quick enough to get into the lane, no midrange, cant finish at the rim..
His shot
Keith : 11/10/2017 11:05 am : link
is so ugly.
wait...
KWALL2 : 11/10/2017 11:25 am : link
did you say he can shoot?

He can't shoot UNLESS he is wide open. Anybody near him and he can't get the shot off. At this point, he can't shoot.

Good passer. That's it.

As the league sees more of him, they will make it even tougher. Terrible pick by the Lakers.

I'd add that he's a good rebounder as well, but yeah, he's been pretty terrible otherwise. Can't shoot, and has one of the worst handles of any PG I've ever seen. Name another PG who so willingly gives up the ball at the slightest hint of pressure? Fox eating him up in the NCAA's last year should have been a warning sign.

Eh, let 'em enjoy their moment. Fact is that Lonzo, who keeps his mouth shut when he isn't saying the right thing, will be held to a much higher standard by fans who blame kids for their parent's actions.

As a Lakers fan I just have to hope that Lonzo isn't as fragile as those who only look at box scores while waiting for his shot to start falling.

Who cares what Magic and the Ball father said? Besides, he was held to this standard even before draft night, as some in this very thread, along with so many others, openly shared the hopes of Lonzo failing ("just because") at the time.

I'm also not big on comparing players to hall of famers before they entire the league and/or after their first few games of their career. But here we go I guess.

I openly root against him for 3 main reasons:
Keith : 11/10/2017 12:29 pm : link
1. I dislike the Ball family and would like them to go away and/or be humbled.
2. I dislike the Lakers greatly.
3. I really don't like that family.

Agreed halfway. Thing is the kid you are rooting to fail is the one that is already humble from what we are able to see.
I do not get that same

feeling listening to them.

That's cool. I feel differently. I don't watch their show or pay attention to social media though so maybe I'm missing plenty. I just follow the team and Lakers-only-related-Lonzo.

Biggest difference between Kidd and Ball is Kidd was a ridiculous athlete and a perennial all NBA defender. Kidd also was an incredible ball handler, which Ball isn't.

I'd say (s)he is the one that is screwed. It is near impossible to keep up that high a level of success for so many years in a row. One injury could screw up everything.

Hopefully the Lakers suck just enough to get the Cs a 2-5 pick.

Sounds like a pretty safe bet on your part. 5 in a row? They're not playing in the 60's.

Absolutely. It didn't take them long to turn it around again. Won 11 straight, and did it last night being down 19 without Kyrie. Amazing team, best in the East.
