So what's with players adding "Sr." to their jersey names ?

Is Steve Smith Jr. going to run out on the field and confuse the fans ?

Panthers' Thomas Davis little son plays football. Could he confuse the fans ?

I DON'T see any harm in it, but think it's a little odd, a bit annoying, and kind of amusing. Oh well, something to talk about in a season where our team is "stink up the joint"

A generational suffix is usually not considered part of a person's surname.

When did this become a bad thing?
I'm a "Jr." ...
Manny in CA : 11/10/2017 11:20 pm : link
It's a legal part of my surname.

I don't have a middle name or initial, but somewhere along the line someone was highly confused by that fact and arbitrarily proceeded to give me an initial - my wife's middle initial , a "K".

So, now I get a ton of junk mail with that initial added !

Again, I find that just a bit odd, annoying and amusing. (Don't lose any sleep over it).
I guess anyone's entitled to use the suffix if it applies.

It's just not common to see anyone make use of it.
It's a matter of interpretation ....

Rule 5, Section 4, Article 2(b) of the 2013 Official NFL Playing Rules states, "Surnames of players in letters a minimum of 2 ½ inches high must be affixed to the exterior of jerseys across the upper back above the numerals; nicknames are prohibited."

Yup, surnames. There's no mention of suffixes — such as "III," "Jr." and "Sr." — because they are not really part of players' surnames. To the contrary, such suffixes relate specifically to players' first names.

But. it really nothing to fret about, the NFL has a lot of bigger problems.

You care so much you’re quoting the rule? You have to have a hobby.

I agree. Hockey threads may be the last refuge.

noticed the trend on college jerseys in the last couple of years. I couldn't imagine juggling School, Football and a Kid while in college.
I haven't posted in a while ...

Been too depressed about the Giants' nightmare season (I think I've only watched two games; normally I don't miss any).

So, I'm down to posting on mundane trivia.
