NFT: Does Hornacek stick with the Knicks?

yankeeslover : 11/12/2017 9:01 am
Just one month ago the Knicks were falling apart, looking forward to being the worse team in the league and getting the 1st pick in draft. Now they are a up and coming young team. For first time in years win or lose Knick fans are exited about the future.
My question is, do you see the Knicks sticking with Hornacek? I know it's a long season but he seems to have made a big turnaround with this young team. Could it be maybe he had to out from the grasp of the triangle and PJax? Does he still have a future with this team?
Should read

Should Knicks stick with Hornacek. Sorry
Why wouldn't he

?
He was forced to use a triangle spinoff
Joey from GlenCove : 11/12/2017 9:05 am : link
NOw he's free to run his offense.

It is much easier to coach
nygiants16 : 11/12/2017 9:13 am : link
whem you habe the freedom to run what you want, do not have 2 ball dominant scorers anymore, habe good vet leaders and habe young guys willing to learn and play hard...
The cuffs are off

Of him since Phil left. I think right now hes a coaches of the year candidate. Granted we arent even a quarter into the season. But yeah he should.
This is a most random thread

Hornaceks forseaable future is not in doubt
I still think the Knicks

Are in for a regression come January when they play 18 of like 25 on the road. However the more and more they keep playing like this I think it might not happen.

This team believes in itself, believes in KP. Dotson looked like he could be a solid piece.

Hornaceck gets at least two more years unless this team completely collapses.
They weren't falling apart
Ten Ton Hammer : 11/12/2017 10:14 am : link
They just started 0-3 out of 82 games.
He seems to have a good handle on things
Dave on the UWS : 11/12/2017 10:26 am : link
Seems to work well with Perry/Mills, I'm for keeping him and letting things grow. I know we wanted a tank job, but that's not the direction things seem to be going in. Develop players build a team philosophy, defense first. The roster will work itself out over time. I would like to see them send Hernangomez down for playing time and to work on his defense.
If Kanter keeps playing like this he is a great trade piece. But Willy has to be ready to step in.

Why on earth would would anyone in their right mind consider trading Kanter? In 2016 Porzingas spent 39 out of 50 games with 4 or more fouls. In 2017 he's had only 2 out of 11 games with 4 fouls or more. The difference this year is that he doesn't have to the dirty work on defense, he know's Kanter has his back.

Are you implying Kanter is a good defender?
Id honestly trade Willy before
LawrenceTaylor56 : 11/12/2017 11:07 am : link
I would Kanter. Their defense is a wash but kanter is much better offensively
Willy
Jon in NYC : 11/12/2017 11:13 am : link
and Lee for Jabari Parker.

Who says no?
Wily
Sgrcts : 11/12/2017 11:18 am : link
def looks lost out there right now, but he's also pressing because he hasn't had playing time. Kanter also pretty unarguably has looked much better on D then expected. He's such a dominant rebounder that all he has to do is not embarrass himself and he should be at least passable on D. The biggest problem is you have KP still chasing guys out on the perimeter, where he shouldn't be since he's SUCH a dominant rim protector. He's destroying attempts in the paint this year.

Opponents are shooting 34% against KP in shots under 6 feet. That is absolutely incredible, probably the most impressive stat of KP's year so far.

I know he came here as a scorer but I've been much more impressed with his defense. He works his ass off enough that Kristaps can focus on other things. So many times this year I've seen a player get a step on Kristaps only to see he get funneled right into Kanter. Last year it would have been a cheap foul. They complement each other and that just hasn't happened with Lopez, Noah or even O'Quinn.
the reason you consider trading kanter...
Italianju : 11/12/2017 11:43 am : link
is because your going to have to sign him to a big deal this offseason. Im not against that, but i think you at least have to consider a deal for him if a good offer comes your way. A kanter deal is going to be at around 20 per (id be hoping and praying for 15 per but i know that is unlikely in todays NBA).
Jon...
Italianju : 11/12/2017 11:45 am : link
I think MIL says no. That is trading parker when his value is low. That said since the guy cant stay on the court his value could actually go lower. One more injury and they would be lucky to get a late first for him.

MIL does need some bigs but i think you could get a more established (or at least a 2 way) center for Parker.

I know Kanter plays no D and is going to command too much money, but I am really warming up to this guy. Seems like a much better teammate than I thought he was
BBS agreed

He seems like a great locker room guy. I wouldn't mind he and McDermott sticking going forward.

So what, the Knicks are paying Noah 17m, that's the kind of player they'd get in return. I've never been impressed with Noah's defense.
I like Kanter
steve in ky : 11/12/2017 12:17 pm : link
I think this team would miss him a lot if here were traded.

He does so many good things and I have read or heard so many examples now of how great a teammate he is I think he adds more to this locker room beyond what he does on the floor.

I also think, at least this season, his defense has not been near as bad as the reputation that preceded him. Maybe it was the weight loss, maybe because he loves being a Knock so badly he is putting in more effort, or maybe his being tapped as the starter is bringing out more effort, who knows why but his defense if not as bad as advertised.

Perry looks like a genius
larryflower37 : 11/12/2017 1:05 pm : link
The Melo deal was a steal.
Kanter will opt in next season and McDermott is restricted. No reason to move Kanter.
Move Lee, Thomas, O'Quinn, Beasley, ETC.

you've never been impressed with one of the best defensive players in the NBA at his peak? Weird statement.

Nope, wasn't impressed with Tyson Chandler's defense either. These guys were top defensive players in an era when no one played defense, but then again, my bar was set in the 90's.

Lee needs to go. I have no idea how he's shooting .465 from 3's.
Jim in Hoboken : 11/12/2017 11:25 pm : link
For a SG, I've never seen him get hot or seen anyone who misses wide open shots so badly.

I'd trade KOQ too, maybe down the stretch when we come back down to earth.
That type of defense isn't even allowed by rule.

He's shot 40% from 3 a number of times in his career. Obviously 46 is a wild number that won't last, but he's been a good player for a number of years.

I wish I knew why all anyone wants to talk about is who to kick off the team. It's November and the team is going well.
Went to the game and saw alot of Kantner
WideRight : 11/13/2017 7:08 am : link
First he had a very strong double-double, so most impressions are going to be favorable....

His offensive liabilities are apparent the minute you see him, but he makes up for it with two critical elements: defense and hustle.

He is extremely good at getting up and down the court, doesn't sound like much, but he always chases offensive rebounds and is still usually the first one back on D. He's deceptively active for a big guy, and he really hustles. Its impressive.

Second, his D is a perfect compliment for KP. He eats up big men down low so that KP can cover the lanes and put his shot blocking skills to work.

I wasn't a Kantner fan, but he is a key piece of their recent success. The team would not be on this run without him.

Use your words like a big boy.
Parker is an injury risk
djm : 11/13/2017 11:23 am : link
but there's no way they trade him for a flawed young unknown player like Willy.

Sorry I shouldn't have been dickish with the lol but that trade isn't happening.
