Think this is bad now, Giants fans? It can get worse

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — If you dare (or care), imagine this scenario, Giants fans: The 49ers defeating the Giants on Sunday.

Do you recall the emotions you felt after Rams 51, Giants 17, last week at MetLife Stadium? Do you recall how angered you became at Giants coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese after watching the Giants play like they didn’t care?

How might you feel if the Giants lose to an 0-9 49ers team playing with a first-year quarterback (C.J. Beathard) no one’s ever heard of at what will be an apathetic, half-empty Levi’s Stadium?

Sure, the 1-7 Giants have had their share of bad luck with injuries this season, losing Odell Beckham Jr. and most of the rest of their receiving corps.

But the 49ers have league-high 23 players on injured reserve and are such a mess that they’re afraid to play newly-acquired franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for fear he’ll get hurt playing with so little trustworthy talent around him.

I agree. Keep the losses coming. Why would anybody be pissed if we lost to the Niners at this stage of the season with where we are?

Whether or not people think we are going to draft a QB it is better to not have to give up more assets to move up in the draft if we covet a player. Or it gives us a chance to have a pick that other teams want and opens up the possibility to trade down if possible. Any way you slice it it is better to be picking earlier than later.

And this is not just the first round. This is all rounds. So, not only would we not have to trade away additional picks but we would also have better picks in the additional rounds too. Please lose. A win against the Niners only hurts the future of this team.
At 1-7
joeinpa : 11/12/2017 10:41 am : link
What difference does it make? 4-12, 3-13, 2-14, it s all the same for us fans.

Meaningful games are over for this seasoon, higher draft pick is one of the advantages of this type of season.

With no sense of perspective.

I will always root for the Giants to win every game, but I recognize that it would help their draft position to lose, so I wouldn't have a negative reaction if the Giants did lose today.
Agree. I'll root for us to win because it's in my DNA, but...
Crispino : 11/12/2017 11:05 am : link
losses at this point are of little or no concern. I do hate to see Eli go theough this, though. He deserves a better fate.
really it's come to a point of who cares win or lose?
micky : 11/12/2017 11:08 am : link
loss will help more so as far as draft position than a w. A w I know will alleviate the players (some I believe) and coaches, big for mcadoo and Reese. as a w will save both jobs
No, it can’t get any worse - last week was rock bottom
annexOPR : 11/12/2017 11:10 am : link
Fuck this “team” - a win today means absolutely nothing

I have never cared less about a game then this afternoon ...
It makes a big difference
afann : 11/12/2017 11:19 am : link
Look at the teams with just 2 or 3 losses right now. If we start to win then we fall back in the draft order.
It can definitely get worse
WillVAB : 11/12/2017 11:20 am : link
People need to think long term. This season is done. What hasn’t been written yet is the next 5-10 seasons, and what this organization decides to do with the FO, coaching staff, and the next draft will determine if they rebound or enter another dark age.
You know,
TC : 11/12/2017 11:21 am : link
until I read this I didn't fully realize I don't CARE how THIS team plays the rest of the year! And that's from a Giants' fan who devoted rapt attention to every play by a bunch of crappy Giants' '70's teams. My attention is focused entirely on the off-season.
I checked out weeks ago.
LauderdaleMatty : 11/12/2017 11:24 am : link
Not wasting family time and and w things to do w a business trip on this team. Lose and if they are sold on Webb maybe they can trade down.

Let's pray Reese and the rest of the crappy FO are not the ones making decisions though
Worst case scenario
fkap : 11/12/2017 11:47 am : link
We go mediocre the rest of the season and Mara decides to go another year with Reese and Mac. I don’t want either back, so one loss at a time.

+1.

A "FUN" Fact:
Thanks to our crack( on crack) FO...if Eli starts the rest of the season and the Giants lose all the games including today........
Eli's regular season W-L record will be 109-106.
I think HOF is out of the question.

WILL not can.
KC next week....Skins 4 days later( if KC doesn't destroy our players first).
Here's my take
Jeever : 11/12/2017 12:52 pm : link
I would like to see some of our young guys improve and learn while we drop the game to the 49er's. We should look at the rest of this season as an extended pre-season for next year. Winning games at this point is pointless. Draft position is key. Clean out the front office after the season and start new.
Their record goes from 1-7 to 1-8 if they don't win
Route 9 : 11/12/2017 1:16 pm : link
So, what you are saying is...it could get worse if they lose? Brilliant!
I was pissed when they shit away games against
Larry in Pencilvania : 11/12/2017 1:51 pm : link
Philly San Diego and Tampa. Even more with Tampa because I was there, and San Diego when every WR got jacked. Now the season can't end fast enough, and loses are ok to get a better draft position and hopefully clean house
Browns winning
Giantslifer : 11/12/2017 2:05 pm : link
It may not matter, root for Browns!!!
Maybe they go on run.
GODAWGS!!

Exactly!

Giants losing to the 49ers doesn't make this season worse.

This season is already horrendous. This team was supposed to make the playoffs and compete for a Super Bowl. Instead, they're on track for a top 5, top 3 pick.
I'll be watching to see
mrvax : 11/12/2017 2:23 pm : link
if any Giants quit on plays like "Rotten" Apple did last week. I want to know what players we need to get rid of.

Play the kids, get them on the field. Maybe bring in Webb for the second half.

being 1-7 is manageable and in good shape..but 1-8? would be abysmal and waaaaay worse!
Not Worse

Well stated. That's exactly how I feel. During the game I root for them to win but rationally I know a loss is actually better for the longterm success of the team
Time to clean house.
