We need to let Pugh walk

JoeyBigBlue : 11/12/2017 11:26 pm
This dude is always hurt. Solid player, but isn’t worth the contract he will command.
Can’t miss him
annexOPR : 11/12/2017 11:28 pm : link
he’s barely in the lineup ... good riddance
agreed
djstat : 11/12/2017 11:28 pm : link
solid player but hurt a lot
Well at least Flowers is improving
Rjanyg : 11/12/2017 11:48 pm : link
Does bringing back Richburg make sense then? I'd like to keep one but they both seem to get hurt a lot. Fluker might be a smart re-sign.

Jones plays hard. The new GM/coach need to figure out the OL next year regardless of the starting QB
Good enough. Understand the post for sure.
B in ALB : 11/12/2017 11:51 pm : link
Does this fucksquad FO have a replacement in mind?

Or are they just hoping again?

What a mess.
Let him walk
old man : 11/13/2017 12:05 am : link
With Richburg.
But they won't. One will be back.
The right side needs to be taken care of at a minimum.
We could need up to 4 if all starters walk; that's why I push rd 1 & 2 OL picks.
If Wheeler has a future with the Giants, I hope he has progressed significantly for a starter role; helps take some pressure off the draft if he, and a FA starter not a Giant, with EF, can be 3 of 5, then add a starter pick, then draft one in '19.
THANK YOU JR &Co.....you cluster xxxxx.
not worth the 1st round pick...2nd or 3rd was more like it
SHO'NUFF : 11/13/2017 1:42 am : link
most experts had a 2nd round grade...Reece had 1st round, as usual... maybe it was the TC-Syracuse lovefest...a lot of us were like wtf?... maybe he'll sign with his beloved Eagles and become a perennial pro bowler.
reminds me

of Luke Pettigout a good player who never stays on the field.
Don't resign him
Disagree
jeff57 : 11/13/2017 5:04 am : link
Let Richburg walk. Franchise Pugh and see if he can stay healthy throughout next season
Jones
ajr2456 : 11/13/2017 6:17 am : link
Has earned the right to start at center next year imo. Let Richburg and Pugh walk

He was fine where the drafted him, mid 1st round. Can play anywhere. Problem is injuries. Let him go.
He can't walk.
WideRight : 11/13/2017 6:52 am : link
Doc says he has a bad back; he has to rest it for a while.
Don't worry about a thing
RetroJint : 11/13/2017 7:06 am : link
He's gone. And he will be signed very early in the UFA process by another team. And the Giants will most likely draft a QB , top 3, which means they will have to address the offensive line later. Plus a couple of Blue Light specials in the veteran market .

The line has played better as the season has U winded . They weren't ready to start the year. That's on Solari and McAdoo. Justin has been hurt too much. Regardless , talented offensive linemen don't usually hit the UFA market . When they do , they tend to get snapped up very quickly .
hes always hurt? wtf
Rory : 11/13/2017 8:14 am : link
he's a fucking offensive lineman! those guys play hurt day in day out. What the fuck do you expect?

idiots
His back has been an issue for a few years now IIRC......
Simms11 : 11/13/2017 8:57 am : link
We might be able to sign him with a more affordable contract now, however, my concern is depth, as he never seems to play a whole season. He provides solid versatility. I think his best position is Guard however and I think they would offer him a contract as one. We can’t get rid of the whole Oline, it’s just not feasible. We do not have the resources to bring in 3 or 4 more quality FA linemen. I see us drafting an OLineman high next year and bringing in a FA starter, possibly some depth, but I just don’t think we could afford any more then that.

Same here except the mandatory 3 false starts and a holding penalty per game.
My wife use to say

Pettigout is French for false start.
I
AcidTest : 11/13/2017 9:12 am : link
agree that we should let him go. He'll likely want too much relative to his injury history. I would also let Richburg go.
yes, bye bye Pugh. When he's not hurt, he's barely adequate
Victor in CT : 11/13/2017 9:15 am : link
I'm still trying to find who he blocked when the idiot Moose Johnson gave him credit for springing a reverse. No way in hell I'd commit $$ and years to this guy.

The difference is that Pugh does not. He has only played 16 games in a season his rookie year. Every year since, he has missed multiple games per season. Certainly, the Eli fumble yesterday is on Eli and his grip strength. But if Pugh even makes half an effort, the fumble doesn't happen. If Pugh literally lays down like a log after the snap, it would offer more of an impediment than his effort yesterday. $8.8M well spent. If the Giants were content with a piss-poor effort, they could have just went with Hart. He has that down pat.
oh, and ditto Richburg. He stinks too
Victor in CT : 11/13/2017 9:16 am : link
ugly.
Without Pugh or someone as versatile as he is,
Ivan15 : 11/13/2017 9:32 am : link
They would have been up Sheets Creek this season.

They don’t have anyone who can back up 3 positions in game, and start at 2 positions, maybe all 3 positions.

The Giants will have to overpay for his replacement anyway. Sign Pugh.

I don’t know why they kept Wheeler on the roster if they had no intention of even making him active.

Overpaying for barely adquate talent is how you have long term failure.

This. It's crazy that some want to keep Pugh, who is an average player that is always hurt to what will likely be a $10 million a year contract, but think paying Odell would be foolish
I consider Pugh above average, and one of the best players
PatersonPlank : 11/13/2017 10:19 am : link
I would keep Flowers and Pugh, and rebuild around them.

Barely adequate? Guy that stoned Vonn Miller (except one play) is barely adequate. When healthy, he is well above league average. Problem is he gets injured.
Pugh
Marty866b : 11/13/2017 10:29 am : link
Good, not great player who can't stay on the field. There is no way you sign this guy to a big, long term deal. It's too bad because we need him.
Yep. Agree
Jimmy Googs : 11/13/2017 10:33 am : link
How many games had Pugh started but not finished??

Cannot be relied upon so tough to fork it over...
