Martellus Bennett Situation is Very Strange

BleedingBlue2 : 11/13/2017 2:53 pm
He was always an odd guy, but something clearly stinks here.

It really seems pretty straightforward to me

He was not willing to play hurt in the dead end situation that is Rodgers-less Green Bay, but he is willing to play hurt in New England. The way he contorts himself to explain it away is pretty ridiculous, but what do you expect him to say? The actual truth? Nah
If this move helps them beat the Eagles in a potential Super Bowl

I don't care if they build a time machine and go back in time to bring back Teddy Bruschi and Richard Seymour.
Lol

Again with the "penciling in" of Philly to go to the Super Bowl...
Soon NFL will become like the NBA

Players will be scheming to play on best teams. It has already started.
Pats probably reached out to him

via back channels when Rodgers got hurt. Then he schemed his way out of GB by exaggerating a minor injury. Somewhat similar to Blount situation a couple of years back.

Yup this smelled of that all along
More power to him IMO

He already stated this was going to be his last season, why are you going to bother playing out the string on a team going no place while you have a bum shoulder? Not only do I not blame him but I can completely understand his wanting to shut it down in Green Bay. Injured guys do it all the time on dead end teams, difference here is the packers played hardball with him. When it comes to guys playing hurt it is always judged against the stakes. You can’t divorce injury decisions from what’s on the line for playing, it’s always part of the equation and anyone who believes otherwise is mistaken
This begs the question

please explain how waivers operates. If a player is waived can he sign with anyone who claims him or is it first come first serve?

The Pats would never do that!

Fuck the Pats.

Depends on the player's seniority I believe. In Bennett's case he could go wherever he wanted.
Right now I might take the Saints or the Rams

over the Eagles.

Again, Philly needed a last-second 61-yard FG to beat the New York Football Giants.

Are the Eagles solid? Yes. Do I believe them at this point? Not quite yet, no.

The Saints' defense is better than advertised. They're 3rd in the league running the football. And they have that guy who plays quarterback there, who's kinda been forgotten but who's still pretty good, and he suddenly doesn't have to do everything, all by his lonesome.

I find the Saints and Rams interesting at this point. And I don't think the Falcons are quite finished yet.

had to go through waivers.

the Patriots were the 2nd to last team (I believe) in priority waiver claim, and Bennett had been making league min this year and they were the first (and only?) team to claim him.

The problem with manipulation like this is if the team did it instead of the player it seems like the NFLPA would have issues (for example when players get placed on IR or cut right before the season to avoid accruing seasons or paying salaries - or something shady that teams do like this).
He is strange.

The Patriots are strange.
Belichick is strange.
A perfect fit.
