The owners have spoken

tator : 11/13/2017 3:56 pm
According to Schefters Facebook page..

Statement from John Mara and Steve Tisch:
"Ben McAdoo is our head coach and has our support. We are in the midst of an extremely disappointing season. Our performance this year, particularly the past two weeks, is inexcusable and frustrating. While we appreciate that our fans are unhappy with what has occurred, nobody is more upset than we are.
“Our plan is to do what we have always done, which is to not offer a running commentary on the season. It is our responsibility to determine the reasons for our poor performance and at the end of the year, we will evaluate the 2017 season in its entirety and make a determination on how we move forward.”

The point of changing coaches right now? Season is over either way. If they don’t make a change at the end of the year then be upset. Teams don’t really fire coaches mid season not just the Giants.
I would fire Mac, I think it has gotten bad enough...
Chris684 : 11/13/2017 4:01 pm : link
However, I think the logic behind keeping him around is to prevent the players who have quit on not only Mac, but the franchise overall, from getting their way.

The clowns who have mailed it are now stuck with the head clown, which in some way is fitting.

This means things can actually get worse and probably will.
They have to look at the tape

Get ready for more embarrassment and drama.

Mara really is a terrible owner. If his last name was Rogers or Williams, he would be seen as such instead of Wellington’s son.

He can’t admit his mistake. McAdoo was his choice. Him and Chris need to stay out of football operations.

He is also the one who is handling the Goodell negotiations and fighting for him to stay as commissioner. Tells you all you need to know.
Every day he’s the coach the infection

They are cleaning house..
Sean : 11/13/2017 4:03 pm : link
why give an interim coach the opportunity to go 3-4 and extend this run of garbage? Because an interim coach may give a couple of wins with an initial change.
.
Danny Kanell : 11/13/2017 4:04 pm : link
Is anyone actually surprised? Firing a coach mid-season isn't how they do business. McAdoo is gone. Reese is gone. They're all gone. You're just not gonna get your pound of flesh until after the season. And ownership isn't wrong about this. Firing them now solves nothing.
THe only thing they care about is MONEY.
superspynyg : 11/13/2017 4:04 pm : link
As long as fans (ours or theirs) keep going to the game and buy beers food and such they will not change. The same with Wellington. He did not change Fassle until the seats were 3/4 empty by half time.

Having said that keeping McAdoo and Reese right now just ensures our losing and atop draft pick.
Giants fans are [mostly] a patient lot,
NorwoodWideRight : 11/13/2017 4:06 pm : link
but what will not tolerated is ownership flying in the face of the fans when it comes to obvious changes that need to be made. This team has a buffoon as its head coach, despite Jerry Reese's comments that he's the "smartest man in the room." It is clear that he has lost this team, despite the head coach's insistence to the contrary.

What follows is an absolute lambasting at the remaining home games (those fans who haven't sold their tickets, that is). I hope Mara and Tisch are prepared for that.

Indeed. That sealed it.
Predictable
mrvax : 11/13/2017 4:07 pm : link
and a solid way of running the show. It gives the owners time to select replacements for next year.

You can't start shotgun firing mid-season and get good replacements overnight.
Good way to handle it

I have a hard time blaming Mara, as if he doesn't care.

this is about how they operate. The Giants don't fire HC's at mid season.

Now, they did fire Fassel before the end of 2003, they just let him finish out the string.

The Giants FO already know the stadium is going to be empty/filled with opposing fans in December.

Trust me, they have already made their decision.....

Potential HC’s are aware of ownership behavior..
Sean : 11/13/2017 4:10 pm : link
firing a HC mid-season is a huge red flag. The season has sucked, we can wait another 7 weeks.

Be mad if Mcadoo and Reese are here next year (I would be furious). Making a move now serves no purpose.
Chiefs might score 90 points this week.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 11/13/2017 4:12 pm : link
I hope Mara and Tisch told McAdoo to deactivate the defensive players who have decided to not attempt to earn their pay anymore.

For Jenkins to give such little effort with the owner watching in the stadium is an affront to the organization.

Another Thought
Rong5611 : 11/13/2017 4:12 pm : link
It gives them an opportunity to evaluate which players actually quit on the Giants and make decisions on their futures. One could say, they don't want the players to dictate the upcoming coaching and gm change (which will happen).
Mara doesn't want to disrupt the tank at this point.
bceagle05 : 11/13/2017 4:13 pm : link
The Knicks should take a lesson.
I wish

McAdoo would immediately bench any player who takes a play off.

You'd hope that player would sit there embarrassed.

Ownership has proven to be very patient
Simms11 : 11/13/2017 4:18 pm : link
over the years and it’s proven to be the right move more times then not. One thing I can tell you is the offense is broke and it’s McAdoos offense?! In fact all three phases of the game are horrendous. If you don’t make wholesale changes then it’ll be more of the same. It’s going to be very interesting come end of December.
This is a message to the players..
Sean : 11/13/2017 4:18 pm : link
suck it up and play. Good!
I'm guessing.....
BillKo : 11/13/2017 4:19 pm : link
Mara didn't even talk to BM today.

Then put out the statement.

My biggest short term concern
dune69 : 11/13/2017 4:20 pm : link
is will we keep Jerry Reese? It is critical the we kill it in the next draft. We cannot afford another sucky draft, particularly when we will have the luxury of being near the top of every round. Will Reese and his staff of draft scouts be choosing our draft off season. If not, can we be ready with his successor in time to be perfect on draft day. When I mean ready, that means all of the scouts rolling up a perfect draft.

Offense hasn’t quit. They’ve struggled and had turnovers but they’re also besaddled with a bad OL, depleted WR corps.

Play calling has improved under Sully a bit too.
At least they did something
AnnapolisMike : 11/13/2017 4:21 pm : link
They either needed to prop him up or fire him. Silence would have been the biggest mistake. In some ways this is the safer path. No worry of an interim HC doing well.

It is the classy move. I would have preferred a canning today...but this is fair.
Yawn.

Gents - what good would it do to have
section125 : 11/13/2017 4:25 pm : link
someone else come in and coach that mess? Who would want to come in for 7 games and try to straighten out that disaster?
superspy - it is not about money, they already have the money. It is about not "letting the inmates run the asylum." Obviously Jenkins et al want McAdoo and Spags gone. No way Mara allows that to happen mid-season; no way he is dictated to by a highly compensated player who quits on the field, his teammates and the fans. It is all on tape. The next GM and coach will see who crapped out.

What needed to happen was one of the leaders/captains jack somebody up. All along we were told there were no leaders in the lockerroom and obviously that is true. Mara is not going to let the players run the coach out of town midseason after playing like that; it would be an open invitation to let players do te same thing every time they didn't get their way. It is also a reason why guaranteed contracts are bad (maybe the only reason but it is a big one) - there are no repercussions to taking the money and not playing or jaking it.

We'll have to suffer through the rest of the year. Jenkins should sit and Cockerell should start and find somebody to start for Apple - Deayon?. But they won't care - they have guaranteed money.

I watched Casablanca again in the 1st half. Should have watched something else in the second half.
It's got to be horrible for Mara too.
larryflower37 : 11/13/2017 4:25 pm : link
They watch this every week but I respect that they are sticking with the plan and not going with pure emotions.

Now if they don't make changes Jan 1st and wipe this clean.

because the 4 remaining home games are going to be a disgrace. The 3 division home games, especially the 2 vs Dallas and Philly, will sound like road games and whomever does show up for the KC game will start off Thanksgiving week by booing vehemently at the home team from start to finish.
