Just Read Jon Gruden wants to return to coaching

Elite Mobster #32 : 11/13/2017 4:03 pm
That would be just what Giants need. Its not even a stretch. Giants should contact him immediately. He still has camps and works with all the high draft picks. Especially QB's !

But this one believes his most likely landing spots would be Tennessee Volunteers or the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Jon Gruden says he may return to coaching - ( New Window )
He did a Rich Eisen interview.
larryflower37 : 11/13/2017 4:13 pm : link
Quote:
Rich Eisen: “When is the last time you got a call to say I want you to be my coach, if you’re up for it?”

Gruden: “Well, I don’t know. It’s in your blood. You get some people calling maybe to see if you’re interested in coaching again, and maybe if you can help recommend a couple guys. I’m pretty much involved with every level of football every day of the week, so I try to help if I can. One of these days, who knows, Rich, one of these days you never know. But I’m just trying to hang on to the job I have. As you know, I don’t have a guaranteed contract.”

Eisen: “People are wondering if there is that scenario out there for you, do you have it in your mind, or is it just one of those things that it’s going to hit you maybe this is the one, Jon?”

Gruden said he has talked with people in the past and plans on keeping his options open.

“I’m 54 years old now and I’m really happy doing what I’m doing, I’m with great people, I think we have a really good team. I look forward of going and traveling with the team of Monday Night Football and our crew. I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing and if something comes along down the road, we’ll take a look at it.”

It's not really him saying he is coming back.
No real news here

true he's my ideal candidate. I know he turns some people off but he's miles better than the names being thrown around here. Would love to see Gruden with a young qb to mold.

you'll certainly get....
BillKo : 11/13/2017 4:17 pm : link
emotion on the sideline.

I've always liked that.

However, I do wonder about his coaching of young QBs....he did a terrible job in Tampa after the SB win with the numerous QBs he brought in.

But he would demand respect.

With the MNF football package maybe not being renewed by ESPN, who knows?
Same wack offense

He would be my top choice. I know many have concerns since he has been out of the league for a while but besides Reid I can't think of another HC who gets the best out of every QB that they have coached other than those two. Gruden could be lured with the promise of choosing whichever QB he wants with the 1st round pick. He would also have Eli and another promising QB in Webb.

He took a washed up Jeff Garcia and turned him into a pro bowler. He didn't have much to work with in Tampa Bay. Keep in mind that Freeman was chosen after he left.
I like Gruden
Rjanyg : 11/13/2017 4:22 pm : link
but I really doubt he wants to come to NY with his brother in DC. Just doesn't seem like it would be a good fit.
ideal candidate
jtfuoco : 11/13/2017 4:24 pm : link
For the job if you ask me. I love his offensive mind set I think he would be great fit for Eli at the end of his career and then preparing the new QB coming in. I love seeing his emotion on the field I know it does not mean he will be more successful but sometimes as a Fan its nice to see your coach just as pissed off as you are.

Jay, he had a whole bunch of guys in there like Simms, Plumber....some other guys with talent and seemed like he was was just brutal on them - that's what I was referring to.

Garcia....he already had a track record in San Fran.
My question is he buying the groceries too?
larryflower37 : 11/13/2017 4:28 pm : link
Because if that is the case we are drafting a QB with the first pick.
no thanks. never liked him, never will. And he's been out long.
Victor in CT : 11/13/2017 4:35 pm : link
and definitely don't want anoher WCO guy.
wonder whats his take on Webb
Bluesbreaker : 11/13/2017 4:36 pm : link
I honestly don't care who they hire at this point as long as I don't have to watch this listless bum anymore his references to The Duke Heavy Handed messes stop already we have looked at the tape and you need to go !

It always seemed he had about a half dozen QB's at training
camp when he was with the Bucs. I recall how dumb looking
Chris Simms was in trying to call plays, he couldn't
remember the terminology. Of course it might have had
too much verbiage? I wouldn't mind somebody to light a fire
under their ass at this point, although I doubt he is interested in this job.
He will be back coaching
jvm52106 : 11/13/2017 4:37 pm : link
soon as ESPN continues to look for ways to cut expenses.

Simms was a 3rd round pick and just not a very good QB. He never coached Jake Plummer you are confusing him with someone else. As for Garcia he bounced around from the Browns to Lions where he looked finished in both places. Gruden brought him in at the age of 39 and Garcia took them to the playoffs.
Do I have..
FatMan in Charlotte : 11/13/2017 4:53 pm : link
to point out again that Gruden was 2 games over .500 in his 7 years in TB?

Probably not since it is an EliteMobster thread.

Ahhhh, you're right. But he did trade for him. There were four, count'em four, other QBs on the roster already:

Bruce Gradkowski, Tim Rattay, Jeff Garcia, and Luke McCown.

I just remember it was like he was throwing darts trying to get the right QB for his system.
I would love Gruden here
PatersonPlank : 11/13/2017 5:48 pm : link
He won at OAK and he really won at TB. He's an experienced, legitimate winner as a HC. Plus he's stayed up to date via his announcing role.

Never going to happen, but I'd be for it.
I read this as "Jon Gruden really wants another ESPN raise"
Ten Ton Hammer : 11/13/2017 7:39 pm : link
Which is the real point, anyway.
What a coincidence..
darren in pdx : 11/13/2017 7:39 pm : link
Giant’s position might be up for grabs and he might just want to get back into coaching. As bad as the season has been, there is some talent to build off of and a Super Bowl winning QB already in place. And the opportunity to get the replacement franchise QB all in the same offseason..
If the Giants want him
JohnF : 11/13/2017 8:20 pm : link
They'd better get out the checkbook. He's making around 10 million (after endorsements) with MNF, and the Tenn. Vols boosters are raising a big pot to tempt him away from that.
He won't want to play his brother twice a year
est1986 : 11/13/2017 9:09 pm : link
But in fantasy land it would be nice.
Seems like he wants to coach Carolina based on tonight
moespree : 11/13/2017 10:37 pm : link
So far I've heard "That's a guy I'd love to coach" referring to a Carolina WR, "I'f I'm down there calling plays" when Carolina has the ball, "This Cam Newton, you'd love to coach him", "The way this Carolina team blocks is a playcaller's dream".

I'm not sure he could make it any more obvious if he tried. Don't think the job will be open though.

He does this with every team he calls games for. Super positive guy.

is not going anywhere. Why would he give up a multi million dollar a year job for all the head aches and 24 hour a day job. How many big time ex coaches leave the booth for coaching again?

Some people like to compete and no amount of money will take that desire away.
He can return to coach
