Have we had any kickers in for tryouts

Dinger : 11/14/2017 1:13 pm
in the last week or so? and if not why? I feel like replacing him would be the easiest move and send a signal to a few players. would it be to big of a cap hit? There have to be equivelantly talented kickers who can miss a 35 yard fg AND kick the ball out of bounds on regular basis. Hey, send a message to the fans that you care!
That makes

too much common sense. It shows that the front office is out to lunch.
If they really think Rosas has a world-class leg...

...then it makes sense to ride out his rookie season and give him a chance to correct his mechanics and gain consistency. The risk would be too big if the team were in playoff contention, with one missed FG representing the difference between getting in and going home. They have nothing on the line, so the Giants can afford to let him work through a slump.

The odds are against him being the kicker in 2018, but I don't see much advantage in replacing him now, unless there's a young guy out there with comparable upside who would benefit from game experience. I guess they could sign Aguayo off Carolina's practice squad and see if he's fixable.
why would we give up on him now

and how does cutting a kicker send a message?
what BBB said
giants#1 : 11/14/2017 1:39 pm : link
if this what a slumping 3-6/4-5 team with an outside chance at a playoff run, you cut Rosas yesterday. But the kid has a strong leg and while he's struggling, now's the exact time to stick with him and see if you can develop him into a quality K.

The team is going nowhere this year, so no message needs to be sent.
He's a rookie

look at Matt Stover and Brandon McManus (to name a couple), both former Giants, both struggled as rookies (elsewhere), but settled in as reliable.

the 40 - 49 50% bothers me more than the other miss or the KO OB, but if he has a strong leg, I'd let him work out the kinks, not exactly like the season is riding on his leg.

Don't really see the point.

As far as any of us know, there are no attitude or effort issues with him, so you're not "sending a message" by making a change. As a young player, might as well look at him all season to see if he can develop. It's not like it makes a difference if any misses hurt us in games.
pjcas18: You can add Matt Bryant to that list.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/14/2017 2:05 pm : link
As the Giants' kicker, he looked like a pretty good pawnbroker. Yet he has gone on to a remarkable career elsewhere, including an 88.8% FG hit rate the past eight seasons. He's also one of the few kickers who seem completely unfazed by the longer PAT.

Even Adam Vinatieri was nothing special when he first broke in with New England. Twenty years later, he's 18-of-19, and perfect from long range.

Obviously, Bryant and Vinatieri benefit from kicking indoors.
Gotta look at the tape first

No....

but we absolutely should have cut Wing and brought in a new punter by now. Wing's always been mediocre at beast and is now just the flat out worst punter in the NFL.
No

Why even bother?
I have been wondering if they changed something in his kick
Blue21 : 11/14/2017 3:32 pm : link
and screwed him up. It's like changing a hitters swing or a golfers swing. Not saying they did but you got to wonder if they did maybe to try to get more loft and less distance in his kicks.
Why?

Rosas has performed better than 98% of his teammates.
I would let the kid be

its not like he is the one costing us games.. let him get his growing pains out of the way this year and compete next year... if ever a year to have to go thru growing pains this is it.

MAybe someone else has a better memory, but I do recall reading something this summer about them changing some of his mechanics.
That's BULL Crap,

this is the N.F.L. not a practice squad. Having him on the team shows how incompetent the front office is. Any decent college kicker is better than this guy.

Some posters really miss the point. This season is basically a lost cause EXCEPT for the opportunity to develop young players and see what they might become in the future. You'd think after the laundry list of young kickers that the Giants have cut loose over the years that went on to become successful elsewhere that all Giants fans would understand that it might pay off to exercise patience in this scenario.

There is no question that another kicker will be brought in during the offseason to compete with Rosas, and he'll have to show his skills over the rest of this season and during camp and preseason to earn his spot next year. But what's the downside to hanging onto him for now?

I can't really figure out how myopic and spiteful some Giants fans are.
Yep ...

That would show the team that Mac means business
Agree with BBB

and was thinking that Rosas's struggles could be one of the silver linings (yeah, grasping now.

Kickers are going to struggle at some point. The good ones recover while many don't. We have the opportunity to ride it out.

yes

Jordan Raanan @JordanRaanan

With Aldrick Rosas struggling Giants worked out kickers Andrew Franks + Jason Myers, per source. Rosas has missed a kick in 4 straight games
