Greg Jennings on Cowherd regarding MacAdoo

joeinpa : 11/15/2017 10:08 am
Did anyone see this interview. Basically Jennings who worked eight years with MacAdoo in Green Bay said.

As a position coach his unit was always the best prepared unit on Sundays.

When asked if he is head coaching material he answered, "No way"

I wasn't able to catch The specifics, someone was here and wasn t really listening.

Anyone else hear it?

Not really shocking news, the proof is in the pudding as they say.

I also wonder if Jennings stated this in hindsight or if he felt that way from the beginning.

That s why I m.curious about the details of the interview.
Coordinators are the X's and O's guys

They can be really good just based on this. However being a HC takes a lot more (and maybe less of the X's and O's frankly). It takes motivating and leading people, managing a variety of situations, dealing with the media and all it represents, making tough decisions, and managing players and coaches. This is why lots of DC/OC guys fail at the HC job, its a different beast requiring a different skillset.
So in other words

His position players always practiced well?

He has high football IQ and low EQ necessary for coaching young players
Well prepared position coaches

Often get lost in the minutiae. That is not a good quality in a Head Coach.
"position coach"? Wasn't he QB coach? Wow! tough job!
Victor in CT : 11/15/2017 10:34 am : link
He was able to get Aaron Rodgers prepared! And TE coach before that? So he really had to school Jermichael Finley? How did he do it??!!!

Please make it stop.
Coughlin thought he would be a good HC
RetroJint : 11/15/2017 11:36 am : link
Who knows more about that , Coughlin or a wide receiver, who probably hasn't coached at any level in his life? McAdoo didn't work out here, at this point in time. That doesn't mean he never will. He's going to have to resume the climb up the slippery slope.

I have my doubts. Pretty clear the Ancient One carried this guy on his back.
Can someone find the pre-game interview with Rodgers
EricJ : 11/15/2017 11:51 am : link
from our playoff game last year? They asked him about McAdoo. You would expect Rodgers to say something like "good coach" etc. No.. Rodgers said he was a funny guy.
Yes, personally I always think
I Love Clams Casino : 11/15/2017 11:59 am : link
it's better to hire a coach who has been in a HC job already. McAdoo was the only coach the Giants seriously considered who wasn't a HC previously, sans the Cleveland guy, Hugh something.

I worried at the time, and his ill fitting suit, just terrible
Coughlin told Mara what
bluepepper : 11/15/2017 11:59 am : link
he wanted to hear regarding Ben. Reese probably did the same. This hire is all on John. Somebody else should make the next call.
Ben's an X’s and O’s guy?
trueblueinpw : 11/15/2017 12:01 pm : link
See, I have a hard time believing that McAdoo is some kind of football genius because he hasn’t been able to solve the Tampa 2 defense every d-Co has thrown at him since last season. The league has clearly solved McAdoo’s offense (and I don’t think it took much effort) and just as clearly McAdoo has not been able to adjust to the league’s adjustments. Has anyone ever watched McAdoo’s Giants and thought, “wow, that was a great game plan or great play or great adjustment”? If he’s so smart, why is every unit on his team failing? This guy is bust in all ways.

I was going to write a response to the OP, but this post is EXACTLY what I was thinking and was going to write.

early last season I thought we had something special with him. The game against the saints where we kneeled it to kill the clock so we could kick the FG was something I never saw coughlin do. And this was fresh off the 2015 opener that
Coughlin blew. I thought, this guy is on top of stuff and is going to make noise... but as the season wore on, it was obvious the Offense was inept and he just relied on the D to bail him out every week. Probably why the d has mutinied this year.
Anyone actually catch

Of competitive but ultimately loosing ....golf.
Over a year ago I was told by a reliable source...
Milton : 11/15/2017 2:38 pm : link
...that a certain former GM who now works in broadcasting had said that in Green Bay McAdoo was considered nothing more than a glorified high school gym teacher. This was my asshat moment.
Remember that in 2016
mrvax : 11/15/2017 2:39 pm : link
we never heard these McAdoo rumors. Makes me think that an incident or series of incidents this year set off some players.

Funny we don't hear any crap about Spags.

Like I said, I heard it last year during the middle of the 2016 season. I even mentioned it on a thread at some point during the offseason.
Spags is small potatoes. He's merely incompetent.
Victor in CT : 11/15/2017 2:56 pm : link
McAdoo is arrogant and blind as well
Most of these talkies are fucking worthless
djm : 11/15/2017 4:10 pm : link
.. of course mcadoo was a well rounded position coach! He got promoted off of his asst coaching acumen. And of course he isn't HC material, at least right now he isn't. That's some insight from Jennings.
yup

some guys are not cut out to be the boss even though they may be outstanding coordinators or position coaches (Wade Phillips and Norv Turner come to mind).

People were poking fun at his sandwich board from day 1. When did you ever hear about how innovative he was. Don't recall
Anyone saying he was some great football mind. More
That he seemed be a good guy. Not exactly what you really need.

And he had a very experienced staff.

That's a weird take. So a two-time super bowl winner and a lifer with a scouting background both recommended X coach and the owner takes the hit for listening to that? Isn't that exactly what you want your owner to do?
