TC : 11/15/2017 12:54 pm : link
a contraction of the words nine and wince? ;-)

Plenty cause to wince!

There aren't. It's your cache.
Sy nailed the biggest reason why McAdoo must go...
That’s Gold, Jerry : 11/15/2017 1:05 pm : link
how can you keep Jenkins/Apple on the field. Man, even at 63, I would have ripped a strip off both and nailed them to the bench. I'd nail both of them to the bench this week also.

Hell, if you're going to go down, then go down with both guns blazing. To me, this is the biggest issue the Giants have...there is no accountability and no repercussions for guys who perform in that manner.

Nice review Sy

These have just got to be painful for you. It will be interesting to see what the Giants do with Pugh and Richburg. Neither seems to be able to stay on the field.

"There are too many guys who don’t get after it, don’t play hard, don’t put the team first. Long term, they shouldn’t be here. That would be priority number one for me this offseason."

Maybe the Giants should hire Sy.
Banks has alluded to the "scholarship" mentality on the Giants. Reese

draft picks and high profile FA signings have nothing to fear.

Must be getting painfuil sof you Sy to have to watch and re-watch this garbage every week.
Hart and lack thereof
jbeintherockies : 11/15/2017 2:18 pm : link
Bobby Hart is probably better suited to play guard. This team has a bunch of guards. Pugh is playing right tackle because he is their best option, not because he is a tackle.

The lack of heart and leadership has been an issue for quite some time now. Looking back, I think Coughlin was trying to get the message across to Reese and Ross when they drafted like 5 team captains in one draft. I don't think the two R's pay attention to the quality of the person when putting together their draft board. I think Reese and Ross have had plenty of time and chances to fix things and learn on the job.
A team full of guys that love the game

and a win at all costs attitude.
EXACTLY.
And there are vets and college guys out there.
And since I'm a build the OL guy ...since we have almost none from which to RE-build...the left side of ND OL seem to fit that bill. On that subject we know QNelson is a G but since McGlinchey has EF-itis with speedrushers...could he be a G as well?
Sy'56! What say you?
Excellent review ...
FragileFox2 : 11/15/2017 3:34 pm : link
As always. Much appreciated.

Quick Typo; Under "Cornerbacks". Cromartie may have 'blown' his coverage.

McGlinchey is a RT-only I think
The very first play of the game,
Doomster : 11/15/2017 4:30 pm : link
where JPP did not contain, and then once again going downfield and not containing the end, where the QB ran for a td......the guy may make a play here and there against the run, but he is just to inconsistent...his pass rush is non existent...I always said, as a tackle, you give him a shot right away at the LOS, and he becomes immobile...

As for 3 duds, it must have been hard picking only 3....

I can't remember a Giant team, giving up/quitting, midway through the season, like this team has....That 200M investment sure isn't paying dividends this season...

JPP didn't have contain on Beathard's TD. He was in the effin stupid zone blitz where he dropped into coverage.

Your review is the prime reason why the Giants will not make any changes in season. In the last few weeks Apple, Collins, JPP, Jenkins, DRC, LB’s too many to name have all underperformed. Now these are the same guys who made this defense special last year under the same coaches. Every Giant on defense has been just well the record speaks for it’s self.

Now then lest look at the offense you gave Eli a stud grade how can you do that when a vet guy with 208 games under the belt makes such a boneheaded play? This offense is all about Eli 2/3 seconds on the clock and he is still trying to identify the mike to hand the ball off for a one yard gain WTH. We have no rhythm and it starts with Eli our line no matter who goes out there just seems like they are not sure what they are supposed to do and spending all that time at the line is not helping. Get to the line make a few adjustments then run the play why wait for 10/15 just adjusting into a blah-blah play again and again. At this time of year every team has injuries we had the by week yet it’s the same offense I wonder why? Sure is not all to blame but he is not helping our offense is pregrade school teams know it with a QB who can’t do left right left right three times in a row with his feet if pressured at all. I’m not sure what our plan is on offense from game to game we are great at concealing it from the world. The one constant is any small error and our drives 90+% are failures. We lack fire and a can do attitude but it all starts with Eli.

This is a young team for the most part the next man up is always the motivational speech now is the time to really do it not talk it let the young guys play. If Eli will be remembered for his consecutive games starts fine but let’s see what we really have behind him we know what we have in him. The OL is hurting Pugh he has the back issue why risk him anymore this season get some fresh new young blood on the field. I can’t see much future at WR other than Shepard & Lewis the other guys King included are truly not NFL worthy let’s fix that now please. Our kicking game has gone just like the offense and defense no consistency at all but they to have some upside it’s just a bad year. Our depth at present leaves much to be desired but it’s something we can work on for the next seven weeks with younger players not on this team presently for sure. This season will leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth but it’s a lesson learned the games on won the field not in the players or fans minds and beliefs.

JPP has been losing contain since the Perry Fewell days. I think BBI blamed that on coaching. But, years later, he is still doing it. You can coach the player all you want. *The player* has to do what you coach them to do in the game.

JPP was resigned out of necessity. The Giants didn't have any other options. That's why they had to pony up and pay Vernon so much money. When you look around the NFL, I think most teams get their pass rushers out of the draft. We haven't been able to do that lately.

McGlinchey is a RT-only I think

Thanks Sy! I appreciate the reply.
I know I'll get a woopin' on this, and it's certainly an against-the-grain concept but maneuver our #2/3 to hopefully get Flowers-Nelson-Jones(1 yr)/vet-FA-McG.
I know it exposes Eli to more passes to the ground, fumbles ,picks but gives them a young OL.
I also know lots of dominoes need to fall right for that to happen. Maybe O Brown or C Williams can be available later in the 1st rd. and can still get us 2 OLs in the top 32-34/5 picks. The crop isnt abundant and 3/4+ of teams need at least 1 OL.
I don't think the cap will let us get whatever quality veterans that may be available, unless a trade and cap magic happens.
I push OL extra strong because we could lose 4 from the line, and I personally do not want Richburg Jerry Pugh and Fluker may move on.
Lots of variables, but the more they bring back, the more '18 will resemble '17. Since it may look that way with kids as well it might as well have an upward direction.
Why the hell didn't the Giants sign Riley reiff
djm : 11/15/2017 9:58 pm : link
In the offseason? Why? Many of us, myself included, clamored for this guy. He was a solid RT and played LT for a bit and wasn't terrible there. Why the fuck didn't we make an offer??? Because of Bobbie hart? I can see wanting to stick with flowers but this team absolutely needed a tackle of some sort to push the incumbents. No. Offer. Made. Why? Ok fine you're scared of whitworth s age plus he was a LT and only a LT. Reiff could play both sides.

Reiff has been good for the Vikings last I checked in October. He got a lot of money but Marshall and ellison got some money too.

No offer made is bothersome

Completely agree with this ... but,

I am wondering why this attitude? I am wondering if some of these guys will get (and accept) an attitude adjustment from a new HC. We'll see ....

Thanks Sy!

Reese
Good job...
Dan in the Springs : 11/16/2017 9:39 pm : link
my only real complaint here is small - you neglected to mention Rosas' opening kickoff out of bounds. That's just another mental error from this young guy. It pretty much gave the 9ers their first field goal, as the defense stiffened after the one big run, and very likely could have held had a good kick kept them pinned closer to the 20.

I am also very concerned about the OL situation with Pugh/Richburg. Right now I'm leaning toward short-term contract offers for both. Especially Pugh, who is continually injured. My guess is he bolts, and I won't be too upset because I don't think he's worth the risk a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal might get him. If he'd take a 1-3 yr deal worth about $7MM/yr I might be willing to give him a shot because we really need him. Totally torn about it because I can see both sides of that argument.
Reese needs to go

We have been rebuilding this O-line for far to long at this
point Flowers might be the only keeper let that sink in.
JPP is a 10 cent light bulb he keeps having troubles
with his back from all the idiotic back flips .
We should not have to draft a DT every other year either and
the DE's have not panned out either . Forget the LLB's there a joke . With a bunch of knuckleheads for DB's
Maybe Darkwa finally stays healthy but it would be nice to have a guy that can take it to the house once in a while .
Lots of work to do ..
