NFT: Have to Love the Mets

Samiam : 11/16/2017 9:11 am
According to an article in the Star Ledger (I don’t know how to post it), the Mets have bought into a plan to keep their starting pitchers healthy. They’ll be copying the Dodgers and other teams by only letting their starters face opposition lineups twice (except DeGrom & Thor). The Mets plan to load up on their bullpen this winter.

Here’s the issue. They never discussed it with their new manager, Callaway, a former pitching coach. Callaway hadn’t seen the report and doesn’t agree with it. He has his own plan. Here we go.

They should let fans bid on each game to be manager. Small market Mets need to raise money somehow.

question the date/timing of the original report. I feel that was something that came out during the playoffs/world series driven by what the Dodgers were doing....

Don't forget the NY Media loves to pound this team when the ship is sinking
Here's the article on Calloway's take on 3rd time through the order.

"I haven't seen that report," Callaway told WOR's Pete McCarthy earlier this week. "I think you use every players' strengths to the max. If I see deGrom or Syndergaard, their slot lowering -- we're going to be monitoring all of these things during the game. We're going to be prepared going into the game, knowing who's a good matchup and who's not a good matchup. And if I see them tire, they're not going to get to face the lineup the third time through.

"But if they're showing us that they can continue to go and they're strong, everything mechanically looks good, they're healthy and their stuff looks good, then they're going to pitch 12 innings if they can."

I think it obviously would've been part of their interview w Callaway
Eric on Li : 11/16/2017 12:02 pm : link
if it were truly something they were seriously looking to implement. Did they consider it given the recent trend of other teams doing it? I'm sure they did. Just like every team in the NFL probably considered using some wildcat when the Dolphins started doing it, even though the vast majority have never implemented it in a meaningful way.

The Mets management/ownership deserves plenty of criticisms, and will deserve many more if they are thrifty this offseason, but this doesn't appear to be one of them.
Top 22 so far

Rookie maximums for at-bats (130), games pitched (30) or innings (50) in the major leagues"

If the 2 leaders are within 5% of each other, or the leader has less than 35% there will be a run-off between the top 2. If a run-off results in a tie the tiebreaker will be vote total in the previous poll, we will continue to "go back" in the polls until there is a clear leader.

*Dom ineligible

P.S. don't stress too much if you feel player X deserves to be on this list vs. player Y. It's extremely unlikely someone not yet nominated would be win any given poll. Nominate those you see fit.
** Executive decision, pulled the plug early on #7. By having the polls begin in the morning it allows for a more lively discussion. Lindsay was running away with the vote. Same with #10. Poll #11 will only have 9 options, I accidently had Kay listed a second time (copy and paste, sue me lol)

have interest in Mike Minor.

Minor would be ideal for the Mets and could be somewhat attractive option with a potential option to use him as a spot starter
I'm confused..

what do you mean by "face opposition lineups twice" ? Like twice through the order?

Minor would be a good move. Hope the "report" is genuine and not just a reporter looking at the list of free agents and saying to himself, "Minor would be good for the Mets."

Unfortunately that's what a lot of "reports" are--pure fignments of the imagination.

or HGH. Now he looks like a baseball writer.
Even if Wright
Metnut : 11/16/2017 1:33 pm : link
is "healthy" enough to play, how is he going to have any power or drive the ball if he's that thin? The worst possible outcome would be a Victor Cruz type of situation, Wright is "healthy" but clearly toast yet gets ABs anyway because of his pre-injury performance.
Wright is done
Eric on Li : 11/16/2017 1:53 pm : link
he hasn't even been able to take part in "baseball activities" for what, 2 years? He's that small because he can't even work out. At one point last year it wasn't even safe enough for him to sit in the dugout. As others said these surgeries are all more about quality of life at this point. Even the Mets acknowledge he's not in their planning at all because I think everyone knows the situation is what it is, he will be on the DL "trying to come back" for the rest of his contract and the Mets will recoup insurance money.
