I know there was a big bourbon thread a month or two ago but was wondering if I could get some individual feedback.
I like making a bourbon sour. And was looking for a decent bourbon (like a Patron of tequilas quality) to get to replace my empty Makers Mark which was alright. But something new would be nice. Also some bourbon drinkers are coming Christmas time so something that can appreciated straight up would fit the bill perfectly. Any thoughts?
good stuff.
I always say this as well, but I’m a huge fan of Buffalo Trace which is even cheaper.

I agree with this.
So my advice on Angels envy was straight, not to be mixed with something.
In general if I'm mixing alcohol (which I rarely do) I'm not buying top of the line, I'd buy something cheaper, since whatever I'm mixing it with probably lessens the impact of the quality of the whisky.
I recently bought a bottle of Larceny for a friends 40th birthday. Interested to see how he likes it.
I keep Jim Beam for the same purpose.
I'm a big fan of WhistlePig rye and Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey.
On bourbon, I'm a big fan of Woodford Reserve.
This +1
I've also seen the flavor wheel, but wish they had a chart like this that showed which bourbons are on the sweeter side versus those that are more on the dry side

Not to be a dick, but an Irish whiskey is not a good change of pace for the bourbon drinker. An Irish whiskey is super caramelly because it is triple distilled. Its almost like filtering your coffee twice. Irish whiskey is a great beginners whiskey or shooting whiskey.
