Chargers will have now reshaped the Giants franchise 2 times

FireJerryReese : 11/16/2017 11:56 am
2004 - gave us Eli and 2 SBs

2017 - took out Odella Becky, paving the way for a Top 3 draft pick to land a franchise QB, paving the way for both Reese and McAdoo to be fired and the beginning of a new regime

The Giants franchise will be reborn for a 2nd time all because of the Chargers.

Thank you Chargers!
Odella Becky?

Some would say it was Eli reshaping the franchise. First, by refusing to play for SD and second for throwing the ball high to Odell putting him in a bad position..

Neither scenario is 100% correct or even possible without TONS of other items, but please, continue with random thoughts.

Looking back at that

Archie/Eli looked like they made a bad choice shunning the Chargers. Ladanian Tomlinson was the best young back in the league and at the beginning of a HOF career and Antonio Gates was at the beginning of a HOF career as well. The Chargers ended up going 12-4 in 2004.

I guess everything turned out OK with the 2 Super Bowl rings in NY, and the Chargers really showing their disfunction over the years. Archie was right in the long run. The Chargers leave San Diego and end up playing in a 25,000 seat MLS stadium that they can't even fill.

Still, I wonder how Eli would've done in sunny San Diego throwing to Gates/V.Jackson and handing off to Ladanian/Sproles.

Giants may not put 25,000 Butts in the seats either
Ivan15 : 11/16/2017 12:36 pm : link
and that stadium will look like a tomb.

Bavaro's career was altered in 1989 on a low hit by Cedric Figaro in San Diego, and blew out his ACL, which ultimately led to his release before the 1991 season and he was never the same player again.

In 1995 was the snowball game, when the fans were throwing snowballs at each other, eventually on the field, and knocked out a member of the Chargers staff. From that game the Giants changed their policy on selling tickets that the season ticket holder was responsible for whoever was sitting in their seats.
Gave us Eli?
djstat : 11/16/2017 12:53 pm : link
Funny I remember we traded for him. THey got a 1st and 5th round pick in 2005 plus Phil Rivers

that 12 - 4 season in 2004 was with Drew Brees, Brees also began the 2005 season as the starter and was only replaced by Rivers because he was injured.

The Chargers even offered Brees a long-term contract despite investing heavily in Rivers (though somewhat incentive based), but obviously he turned then down and signed with NO.

I don't know if it's ever been publicly stated, but Brees presence maybe influenced Eli too.

You are right

it was Vencie Glenn who hit Bavaro and took out his knee low. Figaro hit him high. Glenn returned a Carthon fumble for a TD in that game too.
speaking of Vencie Glenn

can anyone recall why he was released or not re-signed after the 1995 season? I remember him having a pretty good year for us. I dont think he ever played again either.

Hershal Walker was a Giant too that year but it was so quick and unspectacular that one Giant fan I used to work with didn't even remember it when I brought it up
