My wife and I were in Chicago this past weekend and tried the famous burger at Au Cheval and I must say... it may in fact be the best burger I've ever had. Any standouts for you guys?
No frills little burger shack that Travel and Leisure had on their country-wide top 10 list just a few years back. They've been there over 80 years. No fancy toppings, just regular burgers, and they're simply amazing.
Louis Lunch, not only the inventor, but the best, though it's served on toasted white bread with spreadable cheese, tomato, and onion. no condiments.
but to be honest, steak is something I still feel like restaurant quality crushes my home efforts, burgers I don't find such a wide gap, my own homemade burgers are on par with the best restaurants.
I ever had was at The Landings in St Lucia. Indescribible, highlight was the cognac sauce. My second favorite was the Bison Burger at Wood N Tap in Farmington, CT
RE: I don't care what anyone says - rare burgers are disgusting Â
Forgot the name, not far from Yale campus I think, it may have been mentioned above, haven't been in a decade but I remember the sign.. "No ketchup! Don't ask!". Don't ruin the flavor of that burger with ketchup.

Get a double, pussy.

Here in CT there a couple good burger places. One being Prime 16 in New Haven and another in Milford called Plan B.
A new pub opened up in Shelton, simply named "The Pub." Had their burger a few weeks ago and I've been daydreaming about it ever since.

I hate Plan B. Its a chain and they don't let you order rare.
+ one.
Jones Wood is a great spot. Fairway cafe (above the mkt on the UWS) is surprisingly good.
Medium burger, bacon & cheese.
When I went to Paris in 1992....I kept ordering burgers with fried egg on it until I realized what a Cheval Burger was....
LOL....

Medium? I know you like hockey, didn't realize you like it so much you'd eat a puck

Fair enough. Been there twice and enjoyed myself. They have a great selection of bourbon. I order medium rare so the rare thing is not my bag, baby.

They must have changed their policy. The one in Stamford only let you order "pink" or "no pink".

Hope I used to eat them like that and it would gross me out. She would have eaten them raw if they allowed it....yuck
They are named in honor of the busty Swedish actress Anita Ekberg because they are a real handful.
