NFT: Carlos Beltran retires

spike : 11/16/2017 1:20 pm
Muchas Gracias, Beisbol.

Sorry I didn't see it posted yesterday. He wrote a letter on Players Tribune, announcing the end of his baseball career.

IMO, first ballot HOF inductee. The question will be, what hat will he be wearing?
Thank you Carlos! - ( New Window )
Came out a few days ago

I still use it to this day surrounding myself with succesful people and asking them questions.
He's not a first ballot Hall of famer

He never had a top 3 MVP season. If he gets in it's after 4 or 5 years on the ballot.

Agree. A very good player, not an automatic HOFer
He's a first ballot lock
speedywheels : 11/16/2017 3:17 pm : link
435 HR
1587 RBI
312 SB (career 86% success rate, 3rd all time)
2700+ hits
70 lifetime WAR (good for 101st all time)

3 GG
9 AS games (yes, AS is watered down, but that's still a lot)

Plus, he's a switch hitter who was remarkably even from both sides:

Career as LHB - 279/353/481/834
Career as RHB - 280/343/501/843

Only question is - which team?

gets in on the numbers

goes first ballot because he is an ambassador for the game.

They shouldn't force players to pick one team because he, like some others, don't belong to one team.

Outstanding postseason numbers, too.

Beltran was one of my favorite Mets ever. His 2006 season was a fucking monster. Right in the prime of his career.

First ballot

And I know MLB doesn't want players selling themselves to highest (team) bidder.. but Beltran should get to pick the team he represents on induction day.

Numbers wise, his best years were with the Mets. Those are also the fans that appreciate him the least of all the teams he played for, and he got booed their in his ensuing seasons.

If I were in his shoes I'd pick the Astros or the Royals, but for all I know maybe he wants to go in for team "Puerto Rico"

Let's Go Mets!
Beltran belongs in the complier wing
arniefez : 11/16/2017 3:50 pm : link
Not on the main floor. He was never a top 5 in MLB for even one year. The baseball HOF is a joke now anyway. Pudge Rodriguez is the baseball hall of fame. Bud Selig is in the baseball hall of fame. Jeff Bagwell is in the baseball hall of fame. Barry Bonds isn't.
Beltran's power numbers:
Beezer : 11/16/2017 3:53 pm : link

With Kansas City Royals
126 HR, 516 RBI

With New York Mets
148 HR, 559 RBI

I think he's borderline HOF, Bagwell and Biggio never impressed me as a HOFers.
Bonds Arod and Clemens
