NFT: St John's hoops -

Del Shofner : 11/16/2017 11:47 pm
crushed Nebraska big time tonight - didn't see that coming. Figured that since St John's doesn't have a lot of beef up front, the Storm would get out muscled in the paint by some corn fed Big 12 guys. I'm not a St John's alum but I'm a fan from the glory days of the Big East and I've always liked Chris Mullin going back to his days as a high school player in Brooklyn.

Anyone else here follow St John's hoops? Is this team going to be able to compete for consideration in March? I didn't think so but tonight got me thinking maybe I'm underestimating them.
Nice to see the Johnnies coming back

Be careful though, I am a big Terps fan. Nebraska is not very good. Those big guys are plodders and not great defenders.
Anyhow go Jonnies
Went to St. John's during those glory days

Love the Johnny's even though I never like Carnaseca. He was an SOB.

Not loving the depth but really like the back court with Simon, Ponds, and Lovett. Hopefully at least two of the three return next year.

Really wish Yakwe would have developed more by now. Would add so much more to the team. He looked solid as a freshman.
Hofstra with the big upset over Dayton

And Johnnies just blasted Nebraska, which isn't very good and will likely be Tim Miles' last season there. Their early December schedule is a slaughterhouse: Michigan State, Minnesota, Creighton and Kansas.
I’m first and foremost a Villanova guy, but I went....

to law school at St.Johns and I’m a Big East fan, so I keep a pretty close eye on SJU hoops. I hate to say it, but Mullin may be the biggest impediment to the program making long term strides. From what I’ve seen, I think he’s pretty clueless as a coach. He’s drawing some talent, but I’m not convinced he’s a capable X’s and O’s guy at all.
There are members of the fan base that feel that way

Winning will obviously sway those people. They have a nice team but they’re not deep enough. Needed another big man for this season. Next years team looks solid with the additions mentioned above

The big east isn’t as good as it was last year. 6 is probably the max number of bids.
The league may not be as deep, but the quality ...

at the top is excellent. ‘Nova, Xavier, and Seton Hall could all make deep runs in the tournament.
