The offense has been impressive, they're long, lean, and fast.... A very different looking VCU squad. Seeing Tillman shooting threes is impressive. Vann and Lane have impressed so far, as well. Defense leaves a lot to be desired, certainly not the Havoc we're used to, but we are young.
UVA is also young, they're favored by 7 and I think that's right. Could get ugly like last time, though. UVA is also young, though, and if there's a time to get them, it's now. Interested to see how many minutes their magic unicorn Huff gets today.
After seeing him make his debut against Austin Peay, who are awful, it's apparent that his defense has a ways to go. Kid can fill the basket though. I'm guessing his minutes are dependent on how the game is going. If we're hitting our shots early on, it might be a while till he gets in the game. If we're going through one of our dry spells, I could see him going in as an instant-offense type guy. His stroke from downtown is sweet, and he's got a baseline fadeaway jumper that's almost unguardable.
I'll just use my VCU student status as an out in the unlikely event of a loss.
Britt, given VCU's roster, you'll probably see more of DeAndre Hunter than Huff. Athletic 6'7", very smooth, decent outside shot, excellent defender. Since VCU doesn't play a true 5, Salt will start but likely not play all that much himself. I can see a lot of Johnson-Jerome-Guy-Hall-Wilkins or Jerome-Guy-Hall-Hunter-Wilkins.
uncomfortable bringing the ball upcourt. Would be a nice time for Havoc to make a reappearance and the Stu to be going wild.
If that happens Johnson will come in and run the point. We haven't had a quick guard like him since Bub Evans. I'm sorry he'll only be here one year - gives us a different look, which is nice.
Ty missed the couple of weeks right before the season with an injury and is off to a very slow start. Didn't play well against either UNCG nor Austin Peay. Hope he's back on track today.
We need to attack the basket with success today, can't let UVA force us to pass the ball around the perimeter and chuck up a long shot as the clock expires.
Easier said than done, I know, but some of these new guys like Vann are really impressive getting to the basket.
Duke's done it to us, particularly in that collapse at home a few years back. Cuse in the E8 loss. GW, of all teams, in an early season loss two years ago. Can't think of any others off the top of my head. All the other losses have been hot shooting and getting to the line (and us going 10 minutes or so without scoring). It's rare to beat us in transition.
The one thing that might work in VCU's favor is that it's very early in the season and there's been a lot of turnover from last year to this year. The Pack Line is interdependent - everyone has to be on the same page and executing for it to work. In a standard man-to-man, you can work around a weak defender. In our defense, though, if one guy is screwing up then the entire defense can fall apart quickly.
Coulda been worse if he was able to get into Virginia Tech.
Since you brought up Vippy Sue, I'll point out that at least Tony has the guts to give VCU a home and home series. Tek has only scheduled them once in the last 25 years or so - got the living shit beaten out of them at the Stu a few years ago and scampered off with their tail between their legs. Curly Howard won't schedule anyone in the top 200 OOC.
just finished watching the game on DVR. At about 6:20 I was on BBI and saw the "Hey Greg" thread and saw 6:13 (the time of hte last post) but thought it was the time the thread was started and thought that VCU won and Britt was having some friendly trash talk.
What a sweet surprise.
This game will pay dividends for both teams down the road.

Someone should let the cops know - there's gonna be a sniper at the Stu at 4 pm.
The Stu will be rocking tonight!

Mike Rhoades is a bitch, though.

What a great atmosphere at the Stu
I thought both teams looked good for this point in the season. Atmosphere was good, but never really got to 11 because UVA kept countering....
Hoos need to step it up on the glass. VCU was cleaning up on the O boards.
