Pugh out, does Wheeler get PT

joeinpa : 11/17/2017 9:50 am
Been reading that Giants really like him
it depends if he's been getting RT reps
JonC : 11/17/2017 9:52 am : link
and demonstrating grasp in practice. By skillset, he's not a RT, fwiw. But, he's the only OT they've got worth looking at imo.
Throw the young guys into the fire

The only benefit of a truly lost season is getting guys like Wheeler reps

Long term Wheeler could be a starter here ... get him some live action

Also, could he be any worse than the garbage “vet” alternative?
Reading the media transcripts this week...

I think there's a chance. Here's what Sully said when asked:

Quote:
Q: Is T Chad Wheeler ready to step in there if he needs to?

A: Yeah. We’ve had a lot of guys working all year at all the positions, so you guys know I can’t talk about who’s playing, who’s starting, anything like that. We’ll have a group out there that’ll be ready to compete and we’ll be ready to go.

Q: Can you comment…

A: There’s a bunch of them.

Q: Can you comment on how T Chad Wheeler has come along?

A: He’s been a guy since he’s been here – very athletic, has the feet that you like that you’ve seen all through training camp. We saw that in some of his preseason games and there’s a, believe it or not, unlike most of the typical southern Californians, too cool, surfer-type, he’s got a mean streak to him and you see that at times. He’s progressing nicely. He’s really had work at various positions to try to mix all those guys up around the offensive line both – not just on one side or the other, but even working some at guard. So, he’s been progressing nicely.

I think the "Yeah" part is not an affirmative to the question necessarily, seems like an idiosyncrasy of his - he says that sometimes when he's about to speak. Having said that, this team doesn't bench people very often. I expect Hart will still get the start if Fluker is able to go. If Fluker is out then it's Greco/Halapio vs. Wheeler, and it seems like the door is open for him maybe.
Of course not

Why start Wheeler and see if he is a potential answer at OT when they can start Hart who has proven that he is not a starting caliber player.
Wheeler
Marty866b : 11/17/2017 10:05 am : link
Never played even one down at right tackle at USC. Only played the left side and never in the interior.
He's likely best suited to LT in the NFL
JonC : 11/17/2017 10:11 am : link
but he's got to unseat EF here.

And? He's been practicing at all positions like stated above
Gotta start Hart.

He's the best RT in football.

IMO if Fluker cant go...and he picked up the scheme 60%+……… Greco gets the start. Giants way...best veteran ....and WE don't know if they even know how much they worked him at RT...though he DID play a little when The Best went down.
It's entirely possible that Wheeler is a worse RT right now than Hart.

While Wheeler probably has more upside, getting his @ss kicked by Justin Houston & Co. might not be the most positive growth experience.

By the way, there are a lot of open questions about the Chiefs' front seven for Sunday. Not that the injuries to Hali, Bailey, and Ford are likely to level the playing field; but at least they improve the chances of Eli Manning surviving the day.
No
Jim in Tampa : 11/17/2017 11:27 am : link
Flowers, Jerry, Jones, Fluker and Hart.
Heard on the WFAN this morning that he
Simms11 : 11/17/2017 11:35 am : link
would be starting. At this point he cant be worse then Hart!
Oh yeah Wheeler is the answer
HomerJones45 : 11/17/2017 12:04 pm : link
a bunch that couldn't find an o-lineman if one jumped up and bit them on their collective asses no doubt scored big on this Wheeler guy.
Hey Reese can't draft OLmen,
Doomster : 11/17/2017 12:23 pm : link
so maybe an undrafted one is the answer....Riiiiiiiiight!
Next years offensive line
Earl the goat : 11/17/2017 1:25 pm : link
Wheeler. Pugh Free Agent or draft Center. Fluker Flowers

This teams badly needs a RB in first round. Barkley or Guice
Draft some 3 down LBs in rounds 2-4

forgive my curiosity.

I was just wondering if he could be better than the guy that will be playing there in his stead.

I should have known how ridiculous my question was, my apologies.
OL is one position players don't get "playing time"
Matt M. : 11/17/2017 2:27 pm : link
If he doesn't start, he doesn't play, barring injury.
Hart is literally rock

bottom. Give anyone else a shot.
At this point of the season, we're obviously out of the playoffs.
Ira : 11/17/2017 9:38 pm : link
It would be a good idea to see what Wheeler can do, even if he isn't ready - strength wise.

I agree unless the Giants believe that playing Hart until he's 30 will only make him better.

Let the kid play.
