Think about it this way...

As far as appearances go, this season hasnt even reached the bottom yet.

This weekend you have the 6-3 Chiefs who bring a big pass rush and weapons like Kelce, Hunt and Hill. Sunday is going to be a loooooong day with hardly anyone in the building.

Follow that up with home games against:

Philly which will surely be a party for the Eagles and their fans in our building. Fun!

Dallas, who always loads our stadium up with their fans, and finally Washington on New Year's eve.

The only break they MIGHT get here is if Dallas and Washington are struggling or out of it by the time those games are played. Either way though, Mara will sit through December with totally empty, meaningless games against the division, or worse, games that matter for them and their fans show up.

Ugly.

It is going to get worse

Evan Engram named a Team Captain

that's very impressive for a rookie. I really like him. I think he may become a leader on this offense. What does that tell you about the veterans on offense?!
the previews are fantastic

I am with odds about the upcoming draft
Bluesbreaker : 11/17/2017 12:33 pm : link
I want Barkley your 100$ correct about the DE;s LB's O-line and the DB's we are looking at a total rebuild then we
should move on from OBJ and take all the draft picks we can
we should have offed DRC for a pick but too late now .
Eli will most likely see the last season as the starter .
If we unload OBJ for picks we can take BPO O-line LB DE
along with Barkley Webb should be ready to start 2019
we could easily be drafting high again next year .
There are QB's every year to select from I don't feel that we have to take a QB in 2018 .
Your best write up yet

funny how most of us are on the same page. Hard to fathom an organization like ours being so wrong about this team. Mind boggling.

I would clean house and that includes the scouting department.

1966 not as bad as 2017
Rock Solid : 11/17/2017 1:16 pm : link
As a child I heard stories about the Giants. Being in the Bronx the big thing was the Yankees. But in 1966, we moved to NJ and I became a big NY Giants fan. The NY was everywhere. I thought the 1-12-1 was just a bad year. Only a couple of winning seasons till Ray Perkins came.
I never found the team to be as sorry-ass no matter how bad they played. They were always the NY Giants.
This is not a team. It is a bunch of sorry-ass overpaid spoiled individuals who put on our uniform like it is halloween. In that group are a few men who are real Giants but not many. I will be there again. I am looking for my brown bags. I have never done that but it is time.
The write up is dead on the money, as usual.
I can't remember a time as a giants fan
micky : 11/17/2017 1:28 pm : link
aside from growing up as a kid and becoming a giants fan in the 1970s...even then (Pasciak [sp?] debacle etc etc etc..and endure as a kid wearing giants apparel being made of fun of because etc etc) this low on the team.

dread knowing that football season is still only halfway done and there's no giants..just the mitigated disaster of a team and org that turned into a clusterfuck now
defensive backs

Eric,
Agree with most of this but somewhat of a small pass for Eli Apple. I really think his mothers illness has impacted his play. It must be a big distraction in his world. I may be wrong but in my line of work, these illnesses have profound consequences on the family at large. I could be wrong, but I would not evaluate him and get rid of him so soon. The rest of the bunch may be quite different.
It may be quite revealing for many of these players if a new coaching staff comes on board. I think we tend to be too harsh in our evaluations of all players when things are going badly. A change of staff may produce very different results with the same players already present minus a few of the bad apples. My opinion so shoot away!!!!!!!
The KC Chief Tight Ends are very busy

Eric, you are my hero.....
Doomster : 11/17/2017 5:35 pm : link
You get away with saying the same stuff as me, and yet, there is no name calling or your intelligence is not questioned....

Davis Webb? The Giants are not going to play him this year and the Giants can’t risk assuming he is the answer at QB going into 2018 and pass on a potential franchise QB with a top pick. For better or worse, they feel like they owe to Manning to not bench him for Webb. (And to be honest, because Webb has received virtually no practice snaps since being drafted, he’s not ready for any real game action).

But the question becomes, why hasn't he had practice snaps as the backup? Geno will not be here next year, and the only reason for his existence, was to sub Eli, if Eli got hurt and we were still in contention.....that became a moot point after the first 5 losses....to not even put him in a game, makes that pick more of a waste than it already is....

Evan Engram, Rhett Ellison, and probably Jerell Adams are all keepers. On some teams, Matt LaCosse may be seeing more playing time.

Seriously Eric? Even you promote the legend of LaCosse? How many times will he make our practice squad because we are the only one's who will claim him?

Offensive Line: Here is probably the #1 reason why the Giants will be in full rebuild mode. There may not be ONE single keeper in this group. Perhaps Chad Wheeler and Adam Bisnowaty (the latter who struggled mightily in the preseason but who is still young). But that may be wishful thinking.

I said that there was a good possibility that next year, this OL could be worse, and there could be 4 new starters, with Flowers possibly being moved....but it's also the last year of his contract, too...It's like we have done nothing for 6 years....I can't believe you even mention Wheeler/Bisnowaty....that's how this team got in this mess in the first place, looking for diamonds in the rough at the ends of the drafts...

Linebacker: A complete mess. They can’t cover (historically bad against tight ends) or play the run. It’s time to part ways with Jonathan Casillas, Keenan Robinson, J.T. Thomas, Mark Herzlich, and most of the other no names.

Agree.....hard to believe we do not have one legit starter that can stay on the field....Kennard is a FA, but he is more a backup than starter...

Defensive Backs: This is the group that has quit. And it’s clear as day to see. Janoris Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie have both been suspended for not taking their jobs seriously. Landon Collins went from a “Defensive Player of the Year” candidate to a stiff. All three were legit Pro Bowl/All-Pro types a year ago. Eli Apple’s head doesn’t seem to be in the game.

My god Eric, you are talking treason....admitting what is so obvious, but denied by players and coaches and the opposition, alike.....

As I’ve previously discussed, it is time to move on from Eli Manning.

How about build a team around him? If he has a good team built around him (good Oline, RB, WR's, defense), he can win championships. The same can likely be said about the next guy you put in there. Football is the ultimate team game.

I think it is time to part ways with Reese and his entire staff.
And another thing ...

I keep saying this but the Giants are wasting snaps on Orleans Darkwa. Same with Shane Vereen. Ben McAdoo is trying to save his job and the jobs of his assistant coaches. The welfare of families are involved… it’s a tough situation. But Darkwa and Vereen are not the future of a rebuilding club. The team needs to get a better read on Wayne Gallman and Paul Perkins.

The Giants' coaching staff are trying to win games. The game plan that they spend 80 hours a week on is designed to win. They are starting the players that they feel give the team the best chance to win. Until the front office directs them to start playing players with player evaluation as the objective, the coaches will continue to field what they think are the best players. I know you already know that.

Hindsight is 20-20. I wonder if the GM has already pushed for certain players to start with the objective of seeing what they have. For example, did Mike Solari, an NFL football coach of 30 years, really think Bobby Hart was the answer at RT? Or was the coaching staff influenced to start him by, say the GM? Did the GM purposely NOT bring in a veteran tackle because he wanted to see if the guys they drafted could do it? Did the RB coach Craig Johnson, an NFL football coach of 17 years, really think Paul Perkins was his best option at RB? Or was the coaching staff influenced to start him by, say the GM? How good did either of those guys look in training camp and during pre-season games? I have no idea; wasn't at training camp and I didn't watch any pre-season games.

Having said that, I think the coaches are playing guys for evaluation purposes. For example, LeCosse was in there a few weeks ago, Gallman has played, Jerrel has played, Darian Thompson has played a lot and a number of other guys due to injuries. Most of these guys aren't first string for a reason. The coaches see them every week during practice. Some of them may not "get it". Some of them may not know the playbook; maybe too stupid to learn it. There is a lot we don't know.
What would be the

argument to keep Reese? He was put on notice two years ago and now the team is the worst in the NFL.

He must go with the rest.

Good write up, this team never should have collapsed to this level.

It will take a minimum of this offseason if not two to put a good team around Eli on o. Lineman is the biggest issue and they need a complete back. And that assumes the Giants clean up their scouting and Gm in two years.

And it will mean he will be looking at 38 or 39 when that happens. Time to move on. He can still play but he's midpack now and what will he look like at 38 or 39?

Eric's point is totally valid. They have to assume moving on from him. If he somehow gets torrid he can keep the high draft pick qb or Webb on the bench but even that hurts because a potentially high pick sits for two years when this team needs talent on many positions.

They also lose the benefit of cap controlled performance from a new qb.

Good Point on RBs

Darkwa is the best back now but he will be a UFA and doubt he returns. Vereen too. I'd much rather see what Gallman and Perkins have but McAdon't wont play them
Spot on Eric. The culture has to change. Two lines here sum it up:
Victor in CT : 11/19/2017 6:36 am : link
1) I may be dead wrong, but Ben McAdoo, his coaching staff, and many of the players signed their pink slips last week by getting blown out by the previously winless San Francisco 49ers.

2) The question is does John Mara have the balls to hand a pink slip to Jerry Reese as well? And if not, does the Tisch family intervene?

#2 is why I've been saying that this is the worst time for the franchise since 1979 when George Young was hired. I have not flt like they were clueless since then, but I do now. This could get real ugly. I don't see how Mara could in anyway justify not finally canning Reese. This could provide the aprk that ignites an internal war if Tisch stands up and disagrees.
