I have been following this for weeks. There is no way that Acuna is involved as he was signed years ago by a different regime.
The Braves are going to have the hammer dropped on them. It is almost certain that Kevin Maitan is going to be declared a FA. They could possibly lose 2B Yunior Severino, C Abraham Gutierrez, and SS Livan Soto also. Coppy reportedly paid for an apartment for Maitan and another prospect that they signed before he was eligible to sign. The Braves are being punished for signing players before they are eligible to sign which almost every other team does but Coppy was such an abrasive asshole to those who worked under him that they reported him to MLB which started this whole mess. Coppy reportedly also bought 2nd round pick Drew Waters a car to save some money to save some slot money so that they could use it to sign their 1st and 3rd round pick. It is possible that other prospects like CF Christian Pache could be involved as well. This is a fucking mess.
Coppy clearly went above and beyond but MLB could set a dangerous precedent as other young prospects could look for a second pay day and report other teams in hopes that they too are declared free agents and can sign a second deal.
Personally I would rather that the Braves lose their first round pick this season than that IFA class but that won't happen.
If Maitan is declared a FA as expected the two teams that came close to signing him before was Washington and St Louis so chances are that one of those two would sign him now. If the Yankees lose out on Otani then they could still sign Maitan as a consolation prize.
Have righted the ship imo with the new GM. Just hope they don't lose too many prospects. It'll hurt but their farm system is still top of the league.

Thanks I have been preparing for this for weeks. I knew signing Maitan was too good to be true but if they lose that entire class it will be way too harsh IMO. Look every team does do what Atlanta did but Coppy and co. were just too careless and arrogant about it. They also went above and beyond. If Coppy treated his staff better then none of this would have happened as MLB loves to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing. The strength of the Braves farm system softens the blow but the one position they need more depth is 3B and that is where Maitan has a chance to be a superstar. It's going to suck if he signs with Washington and he becomes the force he is expected to become.

Maitan is only 17 so he won't be in the majors for 3-4 years. He has been compared to Chipper Jones and Miguel Cabrera so I think any team wouldn't want a prospect of his caliber signing with a division rival. It's not fair to blame the entire organization for the actions of the GM. The ownership fired the responsible members of the front office.
