Sadly, the most important game for Giants fans to watch this weekend is at 8PM tonight when Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen take the field in the same game.
That being said, these defenses are playing much faster and have more pro potential than some of the B12 joke defenses. Especially USC.
SO Rosen is playing relatively well, while Darnold is slightly behind. Plus, Darnold has better talent around him.
But if anyone thinks any of these guys are plug and play at the next level you're outta your gourd. They're all projects to a point.
Mayfield looks good but I can’t help but think he’s one of these guys that’s a beast in college but sucks in the pros. It’s like he could be Brees at the next level or he could be Colt McCoy.
Could be. It's a shame that there's no clear cut #1 or #2 pick The year that the Giants suck the big white mint. Figures.
I'm not crazy impressed with any of these guys.
If Reese is retained he'll probably pick Chubb anyways.
Get a head coach who likes to throw deep with either of these guys
That's going to be key where every they go at the top.
The deep ball and downfield passing is their biggest strength.
But I can see a team taking them and breaking them down and making them play in this 6 yard, quick throw, quick slant offense where they are being restricted and thus, never reach their full potential.
Don't underestimate the amount of bad coaching that exists in the NFL.
If Rosen is going to succeed he needs a good OL in today's NFL. I like that he stands tall in the pocket but OLs are just not good. There are few OPs in todays NFL that can give Rosen the pocket he needs to succeed. He does a lot of things well though.
I love Darnold's ability to buy time but there is so much he needs to learn like taking a snap under center, working on his drops frok under center, calling a play, etc. The potential is there but he definitely needs another year in college.
To me, I will roll the dice with Webb. I think he is a great combination of both of these QBs in terms of standing tall in the pocket, having a big arm, and being able to buy time when needed. I like Webb's upside.

Excellent analysis. The proliferation of spread offenses in college is destroying OL play in the NFL. None of these guys is guaranteed success. The NFL graveyard is littered with first round QBs who never amounted to anything.
But whether to a first round pick on a QB is the most important decision for the Giants since the trade for Eli. The likelihood of that happening increases with a new regime.
He is with what he is going against though. The LT just blew his assignment and gave him a free trip untouched to the QB, and that wasn’t the first time he’s done it this game.
RE: There is no way the Giants are not picking a QB Â
I never said the Giants arent picking a QB because of Webb. I said I am not thrilled with either guy right now. Big difference. I am not drafting a QB just to draft a QB.
Brilliant drive by Rosen after falling down 21-7 Â
Rosen appears to be the type of guy who would complete 65% of his passes because of his natural ability as an accurate passer as opposed to being a "system QB" where the kind of throws that are given artificially inflates the numbers.
BTW...there is an incredible talent gap with these two teams. How the hell is this game this close right now?

And he is so poised while doing it all. Really impressed me in this game
If Rosen looks this good throwing to this #2 WR on their team Â

Gotta be honest, enjoying watching good college QB play, but it's also very weird to be very seriously scouting for our next QB. Gonna miss Eli.
Impressive performance.
Rosen was right along with you there. Nice play by the USC defense for the INT.
Doesn’t have to be a Gilbride offense but I think he’d be lethal in a play action heavy offense with a good running game.
Good, I want to shitcan McAdoo’s popgun offense anyway.
Like Daryl Lamonica?

Ronnie Lott?
Not quite. But his name is Uchenna Nwosu. Combo DE/OLB that was projected last month to be a top 75 pick.

I agree they would probably take Rosen or Darnold, but they won't have the chance if Rosen goes #1 to the Browns, and Darnold stays in school.
The Giants may not think any other QB is worth a top five pick.

Ridiculous penalty. Rivalry game. He called him a bitch.
Flag.
Gimme a fucking break.
The kid just knows how to fling it in tight spots. Darnold is impressive, as well. I almost feel though he could use another year in college.
Regardless, both are impressive.

Receiver may have slightly overran the route as Rosen appeared to be throwing to a spot.

That is a beautiful accurate ball he throws

Think if he had a running game that was at least average
That said. Big concerns about his durability. And if the party boy rumors are true, NY isn't going to help at all.
Pretty underwhelmed tonight. Plenty of mistakes by both QBs. Plenty of really good plays.
Can't have that trade-off in the nfl.
Not overly impressed by either candidate.
Daryl Lamonica was one of the most entertaining QB's to play the game
