Good to hear from him...Remember Hillebrand was a first round pick from Colorado as a offensive end/LB in 1962 and after being out that year with injuries, he interecepted 5 passes in 1963, no Giant linebacker has matched that since...
Also returned 3 interceptions for touchdowns during his Giants career. The Giants tried to make him a MLB but with his height and athletic ability really belonged on the outside...
Earl Morrill got injured in the beginning of year. Broken wrist maybe? They used a QB who had played in the Continental League - Tom Kennedy, as well as Gary Wood. Wood was a scrambler, and he had to be because their line was so putrid. (Like it is now). About the only excitement that year was watching Wood eluding guys in the backfield. I believe they finished 1-12-1 for the year. The worst loss of the year was probably when they allowed over 70 points to the Redskins.
Cornell's Gary Wood's greatest accomplishment was marrying YA Tittle's daughter. Then came Fran and the patch jobs that led to the entertaining 7-7s.
But the organization was hidebound in the past, frought with all the"isms" that would plague the Giants until GY. Cronyism, nepotism, favoritism, suckholeism--it was all there, with Chip and Marty on radio and Frank and Jack on television.
