Well this season turned into a stinker....it happens. Moving forward I am curious as to the best of course of action for the type of team the NY Giants should be.
I'll start. I would like a hard-nosed team that has a great offensive line. I still believe imposing ones will wins in this league. Big strong running backs with strong armed QB for big plays. Defense that gets after the quarterback but most important whether no gain or big gain they feel it. So something along Coughlin's but simpler reads do to practice restrictions. I don't enjoy the 5 yard passes relying on YAC as the primary means. Any thoughts?
- Elite pass rush
- Reliable run game
- Good QB play in clutch situations
That's always been good enough for us to hold Lombardi, no reason to change now.
For the last 8 years they've just been rudderless( no identity).
Me:
Power in the power positions OL & DL and MLB;
Speed in Outside LBs, WR, and secondary.
Overall: Guys that love playing football, not just guys that play football.
When you draft, the best player available may not be what you are looking for....
To back a team into a corner, and say they have to be this or that is crazy....you have to get players that play together, players that are leaders, and a HC that takes advantage of the talent that they have....the square peg in a round hole mentality has to stop...
Shore up OLine, they may a poor enough season so even they cannot blow the pick. Need a DE too.
Might need to re-think defense a bit. Complex scheme seems to be confusing players. Use the scheme that let's them play the fastest.
Don't think it is as much of a rebuild as many think. Job 1 - build an OLine that an old lady could run behind and keep Eli clean. Get 1 DE or 2 to help with pass rush.
I like this secondary - need a better pass rush and maybe Spags won't have to get as creative.
