NFT: Switched from Chrome to Firefox

Alan in Toledo : 11/18/2017 7:57 pm
Longtime Chrome user (and retired software developer) but got frustrated with inexact rendering (display) of numerous web pages and tendency to lose contact with Dashlane password extension.

Firefox is a huge improvement although it took some time to configure it (bookmarks, extensions, unneeded topline functions...).

Discovered Chrome and Firefox don't play well together. Make sure all Chrome functions are inactive before installing Firefox. Most will have to create a Mozilla account (simple) and then import their bookmarks, etc. from Chrome.

Took a fair amount of effort but I'm pleased with the result.

BTW, should I change my handle to Alan in Sarasota?
I switched to Firefox

about 6 months ago and couldn't be happier. Although, they just upgraded it (literally 2 days ago) and the "new tab" or "new window" pages only has 6 of the "most used" sites, unlike the 9 before the upgrade. Fast, clean, "private window" that leaves no trail if you want it, and just dumped Yahoo as their default search engine (of course, you can remedy that in settings) and now uses Google for default. I tried them all and ended up as Firefox for my main internet connection to the world.
Switch to Opera

to optimize memory usage. Plus, a built in VPN.

software developer. Opera and Safari use far less memory than Chrome and Firefox. If you're looking for performance it's Opera all the way.
Adam, what do you think of
JohnF : 11/18/2017 11:53 pm : link
Brave and Vivaldi? I think both are impressive as Chrome/Firefox alternatives.
Chrome .... I just switched to Chrome

from IE. I cannot believe how bad IE has become. I guess Microsoft just threw in the towel on web browsing.

IE's performance is horrible .... and horribly inconsistent on top of that.

I am going to have to check out some of the ones mentioned above. Thanks everyone .....

If you want to remain a credible poster in good standing you should.

; )

But, now that you mentioned it .... why the change to Sarasota? Did you move?

Moved from NJ to OH in 2004 (grandkids) then to FL in 2015.
I've been a firefox user for a long time

and frankly 2 months ago, I was close to dumping them. But I'm lazy and the performance issues weren't that big of a deal. The new upgrade (Mav mentioned it came out 2 days ago) is very fast.

I was a Firefox user for a long time

A couple years a go I switched to Chrome and never looked back. But based on the previous post I installed Opera and so far I'm liking it, especially the free VPN feature. Thanks adambear
and just to add

After installing chrome all my favorites just came over I didn't have to do anything to import my information. It's just there, setup was was breeze and the built in ad block seems to be working pretty good. I will be test driving this for a while but so far I like it.
Meant to say - "After installing Opera"

Is NoScript available for the new Firefox yet?

It wasn't as of a few days ago and I reinstalled the old version. Will not surf without NoScript.

Here's what the Firefox adminstrators posted on the 14th, (5 days ago):

"2017-11-14:
We're working hard to make NoScript for Quantum available to you as soon as possible, definitely by the end of this week.

Please be patient: if you feel naked while you're waiting for the "brand new" NoScript, you can still use the "regular" NoScript 5.x (and all the other extensions of yours) on Firefox 52 ESR, which will receive security updates until June 2018."
