Wheeler played very well

Earl the goat : 11/19/2017 4:42 pm
Will most likely play the rest of the year
Any possibility next year they put Wheeler at LT and Flowers at RT which are their natural positions

I like a starting offensive line from left to right

Wheeler. Pugh. FA Center not named Richburgh. Fluker Flowers

I’m not sold on Jones even though he’s been playing well. But he would make an important backup Center and Guard
Wheeler looked like a veteran out there
dpinzow : 11/19/2017 4:44 pm : link
Only gave up one pressure IIRC

How they gave the starting RT position to Hart over Wheeler is mind-boggling. He looked like a natural out there
More reasons why I want

the HC fired.

I watched a lot of his plays and he did well overall. He certainly earned a start Thursday in my opinion.
I saw Wheeler
mrvax : 11/19/2017 4:47 pm : link
make some fine pass blocks. Dunno if moving Flowers to RT will happen.
Wheeler played well.
section125 : 11/19/2017 4:49 pm : link
He has nice tackle foot speed. Not sure he beats Flowers out at LT, but at least there is competition now.
how is RT Flowers natural position?
larryflower37 : 11/19/2017 4:56 pm : link
He played 1 year (12 games) of right tackle freshman year of college.
He has spent the last 5 years at left tackle and has turned the corner this year.

Wheeler playing well makes Pugh expendable. Same with Brett Jones.
We can draft a couple of Guards early or sign a FA guard and draft one.
I was very impressed ....
Manny in CA : 11/19/2017 4:58 pm : link

As was noted, Wheeler's feet make all the difference (he's going to be an excellent LT); Flowers is a natural RT.

I appreciate your opinion but 2 set of coaches disagree with you.
He went up against one Othe best pass rushers in the NFL

Plus did very well on stunts and the run game. Very excited about this number 63
I think he
Pete in MD : 11/19/2017 5:03 pm : link
had at least one blown assignment but was pretty good overall.
Yes he did

Only one bad play that I saw.
maybe we should
bc4life : 11/19/2017 5:06 pm : link
have Jackie Slater run our scouting department, at least for the OL
I’d be a little more cautious
Reb8thVA : 11/19/2017 5:14 pm : link
I think everyone got excited when Bobby Hart had a few good games near the end of his rookie season and he has played so poorly this year. Let him continue to develop but don’t pencil him into anything quite yet.
The OL as a unit played well against a good defensive front
Vanzetti : 11/19/2017 5:17 pm : link
Giants should say goodbye to both Richburg and Pugh. The OL plays better without them.
Important helpful piece come draft day, Wheeler.
idiotsavant : 11/19/2017 5:17 pm : link
Not sure I like Pugh as a guard though. As a tackle, OK, yes.

But that's a big improvement from when Flowers was stinking it up on the left OT and Newhouse or Hart stinking it up on the right OT side.

Keep Pugh or not, and Wheeler's contract is probably affordable right now, so maybe that helps,

...we still probably ought to target two high value guards

Gives the Giants the option of keeping Flowers for another two years and then moving Wheeler to LT if that is the way they want to go.

Either way, Wheeler is definitely a huge bright spot in an otherwise dark season.
Seems like blue goose centers are just as rare as blue goose tackles
idiotsavant : 11/19/2017 5:20 pm : link
Maybe Jones makes the cut.

Targeting probowl type guards may become a reality.

Didn't Wheeler play a lot more in college than Hart?

Jones is on the good side of servicable, he doesn't seem to get much push but then he doesn't go backwards much either. You can live with that.

No. Hart was a 3 year starter and started a bunch of games his freshman year at 17 yrs old.
Begs the question.....
Koffman : 11/19/2017 5:41 pm : link
if the o-line play continues like it did today, do we mess with it much for next year ?
Better to add one or two
idiotsavant : 11/19/2017 5:45 pm : link
Super quality expensive pieces as opposed to shotgunning projects at this time

Sounds like we mostly favor at guard position based on two threads today.

Wheeler wasn't ready at the beginning of the year. He was terrible in pre-season games. But he improved -- for an UDFA to end up starting at tackle in Week 11 is pretty damn good, but let's not rewrite history.
Wheeler hustled finishing plays
Bluesbreaker : 11/19/2017 6:15 pm : link
there was one play where he blocked his man past the front of Eli into the oncoming blitzing LB who was just ready
to cream Eli . Saw him hustle downfield and he was ready to scrap . It would be nice if he pans out one less hole to fill . I still like Barkley but we may not have a shot at him there was a couple of plays today where Darkwa had room to run but a several backs coming out this year would have took to the house . Darkwa is what he is he has been relatively healthy this season but you can't bank on this guy . Flowers did a hell of a job today he is gonna see plenty of competition finishing this season hopefully he continues to play well . If Barley is not there I like Nelson or Chub continue to rebuild the trenches .
Yeah Flowers natural position is RT

Despite never playing the position.

Do you actually believe the bullshit that you lay on people around here?

Hasn’t given up a sack since week 2 as a LT... must be a guard.
I've been waiting for Wheeler to get his chance.
Ira : 11/19/2017 7:33 pm : link
With Flowers development over the course of the season and Wheeler's showing he can play, we have the most difficult part of the oline taken care of.
