NGT: Chip Kelly as UF coach ...

tony stg : 11/19/2017 9:02 pm
... several rumors from Gainesville folks are indicating that an announcement is imminent. My son says the football players he knows are saying something's up.

I was thinking that UF should go after UCF's Scott Foster, but he might have his sights set on his alma mater, Nebraska. Kelly certainly has the wow factor that UF is seeking, if true.
You mean Scott Frost (Central Florida)
dpinzow : 11/19/2017 9:03 pm : link
Frost is all but headed back to Nebraska, where he was a QB under Tom Osborne
One tweet concerning Kelly...

Chip to Florida is interesting but that style isn't going to work against Alabama. It will put them in the SEC championship game in the weaker SEC East. Plus Florida will have to worry about probation down the line because Chip is on the NCAA's shit list
I remember him at Nebraska - he followed Fazier
PatersonPlank : 11/19/2017 9:06 pm : link
I didn't realize that was him.

I meant Kelly to UF. I agree Foster is likely Neb bound. Would have preferred that UF go after Foster instead of Kelly, but I don't get to make those decisions.
Sorry... I meant Frost...

... brain cramp twice! NBA ref Scott Foster is a friend of mine from way back and accidentally typed his name twice. DOH!!
UCLA is interviewing him today

Tell that to Clemson.
Frost would be foolish to go to NE
arniefez : 11/19/2017 9:39 pm : link
terrible job no chance to win. If he's smart he'll stay where he is for . a little while and then pick a job he really wants maybe an NFL job.
Word on the street is that the reason Mora was fired now
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 11/19/2017 9:39 pm : link
Was because UCLA is afraid Kelly to UF was done and they want him. Frost is a pretty good consolation prize - that UCF team is fast and physical. They lay the wood.

What? A chance to run your Alma mater's program - which just happens to be a traditional power with virtually unlimited resources?

No chance to win?

Have you been to the football complex in Lincoln? I have and it's insane. My uncle played there and it's a fucking paradise for football players. Holy shit what a dumb statement.
Plus if you can build a defense in the big 12
PetesHereNow : 11/19/2017 9:46 pm : link
You will win a metric shit ton of football games because all the defenses suck.

Nebraska's in the B1G, not the Big XII...but they would still be atop the B1G West with Wisconsin if they got back to their physical roots
When did Nebraska move to the Big 10 or wtf they call it now?
PetesHereNow : 11/19/2017 10:51 pm : link
Must have missed that. But my point remains. Build a fast fundamentally sound defense in college football and you win a lot of games. Wisconsin, Miami, Bama, UCF.
If true
Rflairr : 11/19/2017 11:07 pm : link
they had to because UCLA was ready to go after him. Surprised he wouldn't try to go back to the Pac12

Um. Over 5 years ago. May be longer. Nebraska is a very good job. Maybe not as highly thought of as it was back in the day but Frost would be dumb not to consider it regardless of other jobs he might supposedly be able to get in the future Gotta Hit while the iron is hot.

Nebraska is still one of the best jobs in the country...they just need to get the right people in place. They made a bad move joining the B1G though; no natural rivals like Oklahoma, Colorado and Texas there. Moving to the B1G cost them a lot of their Texas recruiting base where they got a lot of their best players
Nebraska fans
old man : 11/19/2017 11:29 pm : link
are hungry for a return to relevance and many want to see the smash mouth run game and solid D return to do it.
But BBI told me

That Chip would be at the helm for the Giants next year...

Just kiddin!

Among some people in the know, the feeling is that it wouldn't be surprising if Florida moved on from Chip Kelly.

They went to New Hampshire to visit Kelly with the university president and a pretty full contingent, expecting to get the deal done.

But Kelly put them on hold.

There are plenty of people at the University of Florida who want Dan Mullen and Scott Frost and know that more jobs will open up by the end of this week, so I can't see Florida waiting long.

And they're probably just plainly not liking that Kelly didn't finalize the deal with them today.

Now, of course, my BBS has me skeptical. But this is what I've been told by in-the-know types.

Interesting, and I hope true. I would prefer Frost or Mullen at UF over Kelly.
Logic says the following based on each coach's background
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 11/20/2017 1:36 pm : link
Kelly to UCLA (knows the conference, recruiting landscape, easier path to the playoff)

Mullen to FLA (he's sent feelers out before / ceiling in Starkville, FLA connections)

Frost to Nebraska (prodigal son)

Add Tee Martin to Tennessee and I think that's how it's going to go down

I think you have it right. I'm not kidding - if I'm Florida I bring in Larry Fedora of UNC. Don't be fooled by their record because they have been besieged by injuries and still play hard. They had Miami on the ropes 3 weeks ago with a makeshift offense. He can recruit and motivate.
Love to see Kelly get a shot here.

We are stuck with a bunch of losers named Mara and Reese. One a family member and the other a failed glorified scout. Kelly has football smarts and a vision. Ready for that. We all should be. MO

Kelly should head to the big 10
mdc1 : 11/20/2017 5:59 pm : link
he will be an overnight success in making that conference actually competitive in terms of team speed.
