NFT: Where to eat near MSG

TEPLimey : 11/20/2017 10:44 am
hitting up the Garden for Red Hot Hockey on Saturday and, although I get there a few times a year for various events, usually have dinner in other parts of the city. It used to be a culinary dead-zone, at least the last time I was in that area looking to eat.

Does anyone have any suggestions for 3 guys to have dinner before the game (aside from the Olive Garden and Sbarro, obviously)? I'm really looking for something better than chicken wings at Stout, but we don't need Eleven Madison Park for a pre-game meal either.

Is always my go to spot Pre-Garden events. You can sit upstairs if it's busy and order from the back bar or be seated, and the food is always solid and it's a good spot to have some pregame beers.
Keens if you don’t mind dropping some coin

I ate upstairs there a couple months ago before the McCartney concert and sat in front of my own TV watching one of the 4pm games. Nice place. Forget what I ate.

near by. You can also never go wrong with either Sparros or Gyro II. Gyro II has been one of the best kept secrets of the city for years

It's a little hole in the wall on 29th and 8th. One of the best Italian combos or meatball parms I've ever had. Also their lasagna or chicken valdostano are outrageously good too.

Birichino on 29th and 8th is a very good Italian

restaurant, moderately priced, with a decent wine list. You may want to make reservations, as it can get pretty crowded on game nights.
There's a Red Lobster near by

But I'll hit up Tracks in Penn Station every once in a while. It's usually easy to get a spot at the bar or get a table, even pre show during rush hour. They have really really good wings and the service is excellent. A little under the radar spot.

I eat there once a month roughly while waiting for my train. Nothing wrong with tracks.

I wouldn't get any of their raw bar stuff, but the extra spicy wings and fried calamari are delicious.

Very good recommendation. Cash only though - just a heads up.

Great place! I've had a few times where I've gone in there for a beer, and ended up texting the wife that I was "working late" while putting in a 4 hour shift there.

Closest thing to a real irish sports pub in penn station.

Oddly enough, Kabooz's wings are also pretty good.

Yes. Kaboozs wings are excellent. Good quesadillas too. Customer service is good and the manager is a really nice dude. If you're going to a concert at MSG he makes sure to play a setlist of the music of the band you're going to see. Can't go wrong with either.
